  • I will be going on a landscape photography trip to Switzerland after 6 years and on this vlog, I revisit my beginner travel photos from 2018 and roast them to give tips on how to take better travel photos than 99% of beginners. I will go in depth on my thought process at the time and highlight big travel photography mistakes in each of them and suggest ways to get better at travel photography compositions, as well as additional tips to make them stand out. The video highlights that while Switzerland has some of the most impressive spots for landscape photography I've witnessed, it is still possible to take bad travel photos if you don't know what you are doing.

I think there is a huge difference between taking photographs to remind you of a fantastic vacation, and going out with an intent to capture a particular image that you have artistically imagined. On the best day you can get both, but sometimes you have to take what is served up to you.
the photograph of the bridge, and then the next day taken before sunrise is the perfect example.
great video with some great points.

Thanks buddy. Totally agree, that’s why I didn’t want to include the cliché “not picking the best time to shoot” because as regular people without unlimited time and money to keep going back to places, we just want a good memory of our travels, but the tips I wanted to give out was how to at least come up with decent shots (not need to be epic or portfolio style) in most situations. Glad you agree with the points! 😁 have a good week ahead.

You’re roasting your shots and then snuck in this one that is unroastable. Just gorgeous! 6:55

I actually re-edited that a bit and cropped 😂 but surprisingly, not a lot of changes, so counted that as a win 🤣

Great video Keith, loved the insight into your photography, I wonder would it be worth doing a video where you take a “bad” photo like with all the birds and show how you can improve them like cropping in and simplifying the image using your old photos. I’m a strong believer of not throwing old work away even if you don’t see anything in it at the time.

Thanks Keith, I did some re-edits on most of the photos here to show what could’ve improved a lot better. The first photo was just really messy for me that I find it “beyond saving” 😅 but agree, it is worth looking at old photos and with the accumulated experience we get, can definitely figure more ways to approach an image

I think the one rule here is less is more. We often think to big. Thabks for sharing. And I actually thought that first shot was pretty ok. Grt guido

Indeed, being able to figure out which parts to exclude in an image goes a very long way. Haha interesting you find it ok 😁 I think the moment itself looked nice enough to shoot (sunset with birds), but I should’ve tried more ways to frame. Thanks for watching!

I think landscape is just so so different from street and portrait! But I think you’re already doing well from the landscape shots I see ☺️ especially since you have yourself or fiancée within the environmental portraits, you already have a subject to focus on anyway 😆 but glad you found the tips helpful!

Those dirty dirty images 🫢😂 this is really great learned a lot. Looking back at photos and see what’s wrong is a great way to improve. Mount titles?

Thanks dude, finding what doesn’t work in a photo is probably a better way (or a great supplement) to learn than watching pros show their best work and explain the image. It was Mt Titlis 😁 amazing place, but I decided not to go back and visit a different mountain in that area.
