Episode 5: Nightfall in Fountainport | Bloomburrow Story

- Fountainport loomed over the largest pond in Valley. The graceful spire of water magically spouting from a carved lily above the throne room was visible long before Helga and the others reached the Tadpool Harbor District at the base. Each level was a work of art, three basins carved from soapstone and embellished with curved designs: flower petals, lapping waves, stylized frogfolk faces. Large portcullises beneath the city allowed animalfolk to stream into the docks, eager to join year-round celebrations encouraged or directly sponsored by King Glarb himself.

Ral is so funny in this story. He talks like a player character in an MMORPG who is tagging along with a group of minor NPCs in a side quest 😂
"I'm not a farmer. I'm a baker." I love you Mabel.
I was disappointed that we were only getting 5, but as far as endings go this was pretty good
If any set or plane deserves a novel it would be this one pleass!!!
This story was great it has such tabletop rpg party vibes and was really well written this might be my favorite set ever
There is a DND setting called Humblewood that is basically this. It was so much fun when we ran it. I am getting vibes of that campaign from this story. I hope there's more.
Short and sweet, did it’s main job of showcasing the setting (which is always the real gem of Magic lore anyway). It’ll probably get a DnD supplement at some point, they do that with all the Magic planes that get popular enough.
Please give us more of this world, this was so enjoyable! If nothing else, please bring some more planeswalkers here, it was hilarious watching Ral adjust to that tail of his. I sincerely hope this world and the stories from it aren't over yet, and thank you so much for the fantastic introduction to this new setting!
We better get to come back soon because this is the first time I’ve been excited to play magic since adventure in the forgotten realms! It’s a plane of animals! What’s not to love!
I need more of Bloomburrow. This place is great, and bring back memories of Redwall. But now high fantasy.
We could stay here for three sets and I would be happy.
I’m surprised we don’t have the tale of Lily Emberseed and the Order of the Holly Leaf. Maybe Wizards tried to increase the quality of their setting story by decreasing their quantity. If so, I’m in favor of the move. Most of their stories have been misses lately but I liked this one. I do wonder if they actually axed Bloomburrow side stories to give the main story more attention, though.
Never have I cared so much for the well being of a froggie. Helga is a treasure.
Adding to the accolades: this is the first story I've been truly invested in since original Eldraine. The setting + writing quality is far above what we've come to expect from Magic Story over the past several years.
This was such a great story! Kudos to the author and the reader!
Mabel has so much aura its crazy. What a kick ass character.
That is story was more put together than it’s length might make you expect, but I’m still once again left feeling that they really need to give new planes 2-set blocks.
The story is still rushed, so much happening in this chapter that it feels like whiplash compared to the first few; and with how many ideas the set itself seems to be playing with, I expect its themes will feel quite cramped as well.
This set would be perfect for a dnd source book
It's not an official book, but I would suggest Humblewood for a similar aesthetic.
okay, i need about 42 mabel cards in each and every set for the next year. she is awesome
I really liked Helga throughout this story! Great job!
I wanna see Mabel or Helga gain a Spark through a NON-Destructive event! We need to see more of them!❤❤❤
While Mabel doesn't seem like the type to wander through an omenpath, I do want to see more of helga, without the need for ANOTHER calamity striking her village.
Would they still be animals or would they have human forms?
Mabel is such a badass character 💖💖💖
Man, I really wanted to love this story, I really did. I've been low on Magic's story ever since the Gatewatch started poking their faces in everywhere, but this setting had so much going for it. The cool animal world concept. A return to a more traditional fantasy aesthetic that drew me into the game in the first place. A world with some actual depth to it. And perhaps most of all, a more self-contained world that's allowed to be its own thing, with its own heroes that get to take action rather than just being background noise for the Diet MCU to futz about with.
But them it goes back to the same old problems Magic always has. It tries to do too much in too little space, and yet it still feels like it didn't really do all that much after all. Mabel is sweet and likeable, sure, but incredibly underdeveloped for a main protagonist. Her motivation is weak, she never really struggles with anything, and ends up exactly where she was at the start. And the rest of the main cast (save Helga) are so invisible and pointless that they may as well not even be there. Even Ral, who gets the most focus, doesn't really contribute anything to the main story, and is seemingly just there to tie it into the rest of the diet MCU.
And then nothing really seems to happen. The heroes just seem to move from point A to point B, never really struggling with anything, until suddenly we're at the end and the Night Owl resolves things herself with nothing the heroes actually did feeling like it contributed anything. I get that the idea is that they're small, humble folk out on a big epic quest, but they're the heroes, their actions should still be the most important thing we see. And they're not even "small or humble" in the first place - they're all already well capable, accomplished heroes right from the get go (again, save Helga).
So really, while I will say it was above average by Magic standards, I still can't really say it was all that good.
Incredible job by the narrator, but I really wish someone took some time to edit the background music. The tone disparity was super distracting. The two tracks used over the course of the 5 stories were definitely enough to cover all the moments, but simply fading from one track to the other would have done wonders
I wish we had more parts for this one, what a great story that was but it was too short!
A king trying to control powers beyond his ken, such things never end well.
Really appreciate wotc giving us some story, more of this please!
Man this felt a little short I - really hope there are some side stories for the overarching story to connect.
Although bloomburrow has been so refreshing versus over OTJ but man I need more story- 7 parts may have been better!
Still in love with the plane itself!
"The kings in the dark will return," she intoned. "The mage in blue will bring about the end."
Interested to know if that refers to the Fomori or something else.
It's Jace.
...Or, at least, it's meant to imply Jace. Perhaps it's a red(/blue) herring.
@@trise2033 Oh the last bit is Jace, I'm thinking of the Kings in the Dark. As it certainly not referencing any current villains that are around atm. Besides Ashiok that could be linked maybe as we don't know much about them still.
The is the kings in the dark?
I definitely think the kings in the dark are the Fomori, but I'm wondering if the mage in blue is actually a fakeout and it'll turn out to be Kasmina.
@paigeepler That's a good point as it's not clear if Helga's premonition included sight of the blue mage as once Helga came to she continued as if nothing happened.
These 5 chapters were so entertaining, would love more written in this setting. Would absolutely read a whole novel about the order of the holly leaf, we only got small hints of them in the opening episodes.
Give us more bloomburrow!!
might be a crazy prediction but I personally think the storm hawk is Kolaghan from Tarkir. Both the storm hawk and Kolaghan are four winged creatures that are associated with purple lightning and storms, it would make sense for Kolaghan to become a bird when on Bloomburrow as she has feathers. I think this theory is supported even more by the fact that we're going back to Tarkir next year AND that bloomburrow is the first set a part of the 'dragonstorm arc.' So perhaps we'll see the other elder dragons of Tarkir on other planes?
It’s not crazy, all of the comments on the episode with the storm dragons debut all say this… i think it would be cool and make sense.
TBH most of the Dragons in Kolaghans flight are looking a lot like her.
So I'd rather see it as a related dragon from her kin than herself.
I say it's just one of her brood.
So hype for this set
Same! Excited to open a box and play with a couple of friends.
I love Mabel, Helga and Ral. Sooooo happy with this set, it melts my heart! Already eager to see a return
Enjoyed the story, but there needs to be more context for these sets. It's times like this I wish Wizards followed the two-set block format (a la Battle for Zendikar/Oath of the Gatewatch) to flesh out the story a bit more. This is especially true when it comes to new planes; Thunder Junction and Bloomborrow are left wanting as a result of only having five episodes of stories to describe not only the plane itself, but also characters, cities, magical items, etc. Oh well, I least I know the hype for this set is off the charts, and as a result the product should sell extremely well. Being that Wizards really likes money, they'll get the hint that we want more and I wouldn't be surprised to find out we'll be going back Furry Island in a year or two.
I absolutely loved this story
Zoraline for MVP 🦇🐐
Hope I can get a good Bat deck going asap.
Zora's constant need for sleep and naps make her a relatable queen 💅
Yes, Most Verysleepy Person
I am guessing Jace and family were just passing through, since Vraska and Loot need Omengates to travel, and also that their leaving Bloomburrow is what attracted the dragon from whatever plane they traveled to.
Can we cancel duskmourn and just get more bloomburrow please
I would love more storys from bloomborrow. Or let the people that do the arcane series make one for the adventures of mabel. 😊
Please more like this wizards.
That story was fun :)
Valerie Valdes's writing is always a treat. I liked it best in LCI, but even here, she tailors her writing to each character as it follows þeir perspective, and really makes each character feel like a valid contender for surrogate, in turns. I hope wizards gives her many more, varied assignments going forward, so she can flex her range even more!
Great story, but please can you make the background music fit the vibe? We have the scary tense music playing throughout funny scenes, and this happy ending.
Loved the intonation in Harless' voice when the aide was panicking. This is going to be 10 stories, not 5, right?
Here we go!
This was so fun 😊 I really enjoyed the entirety of the set actually 😊
Helga card better be hype
Cool love it but I’m am disappointed we’re only getting 5 chapters where this needed 8 if not more and now I’m concerned for the next story like craigflame origins
There's supposed to be 6 chapters, so I assume that the next one deals with what's happening with Jace and baby Yoda. Which comes with its own set of problems in how that is shortchanging the actual story of the set.
@@JoelBurger cool another story but also still short for this set regardless
This was such an epic episode! I would definitely would have read this as a novel.
Would love to see more original works like this world.
I loved this set without knowing the lore...know I love it more, mabel is a real one so happy I pulled the raised foil, also my girl helga is getting her own deck she will be great ❤
Now to long and hope we ever get to come back here
Very well done, more of this and less of everything else!
Is this really the end? I have so many questions T_T. What were Jace and company up to this entire time? How/why did a supposedly Tarkir dragon wind up on Bloomburrow?
Omenpaths.
The music throws off the tone in places.
We need more! This story was cool but way too rushed. Didn't even get to see much of the calamity beasts
More Bloomburrow!
Finally, a villain that isn't either Dimir or Rakdos
Elesh Norn: am I a joke to you?
The king should be simic right?
Simic, the true evil
Trostani wasn’t Dimir or Rakdos, neither was Oko
@@RudyMarr Yep, the frogs in this set are simic
Yesssss.
Zoraline is so relatable
I am not familiar with Redwall so I am getting vibes of Secret of NIMH and Ori and the Blind Forest instead.
Ral cares none to explain his weird statements lol
i am totally helga 8:17
The Endbringer.
Is this 100% AI or just the voice?
Honestly, the reading is really well done, but whoever is taking care of the final mixing, please, lower the background music, it gets really distracting at some points....
"The kings in the dark will return." Are the titans coming back AGAIN, canonically?
Guessing it's the Fomori.
Can we stop putting more horror in Jace's life please? Man just wants to have a good life with his wife and adoptive child. Don't put ominous future predictions that blame him for some untold future calamity on his back. He has gone through enough already.
thats it?
Obligatory 1st
I wonder if magic the gathering is going to add a new colour to the game
What I mean by that is is. There’s going to add a another element to the game
@@daniellebenton4308 That would break too much for it to be realistic. There are things such as energy to add to the colour pie, but the five colours plus colorless are both mechanically and narratively set.
