Tong-Len Charitable Trust | Finally meeting them | Dharamshala | Tibetan

Tong-len Charitable Trust was set up in December 2004 to support desperately poor communities in the Dharamshala area of Himachal Pradesh. Its prime focus has been in supporting the educational needs of the children from these communities. It has established its own school and provides hostel accommodation. It also engages in health work. The founder and Director of Tong-Len Charitable Trust, Therchin Gyaltsen (Jamyang), had a vision to help destitute Indian children, seen begging in the streets and scavenging in the rubbish dumps, gain access to education.
Jamyang, a refugee Tibetan monk, was moved by the plight of the young Indian children he saw begging in the street and scavenging in the rubbish bins. He discovered they were living in terrible conditions in a slum camp with no access to clean water, sanitation or education.
The name Tong-Len comes from the Tibetan words meaning ‘give’ and ‘take’, the idea being that through compassion one scares in the suffering and pain of others whilst simultaneously giving out love and kindness.
In some projects, especially health, Tong-Len works in partnership with the Dalai Lama Trust.
The reason why we went to meet them and how do we know them… its because they were our neighbor and it was my dad with the help of my mom they both took the initiative to make all this possible.
Even though they used to go to government school but were not a regular students so with them growing fast my parent were concern about their safety and education.
They get to know about monk Jamyang and had a talk with them with stating all the reason they accept them in their school and with the help of our community people we get to make all their documents and ID proof.
So all the four kids are in school and me, mom and my brother are continuing what my dad had left behind. I can proudly say that my dad did a great job by making their life.
