Starlink and Cell to Sat is a game changer. Just a week ago some storm chasers from WXChasing had brought a Starlink setup with them to Carriacou Island and after Beryl allowed everyone to use it to make phone calls to Grenada and elsewhere. You'll appreciate this part, they had to stop when their data max was reached. But the point is these people didn't have any communication at all until they used the Starlink. Yes imagine cell to sat. They all had cell phones just no connectivity. Amazing assistance this will be in an emergency.
Forgot to add, keep it up J. You're sooooo close to 100k. It'll be a celebration for sure. I'll be watching for the party!

@@lllhunterlll9644 , the point is that if you have no signal you can't call. I would think that your doing Wifi calling from home ( where your router is ) but if your out in the desert or somewhere and there is no towers with Sat to Cell you will be able to make that call if needed!

Cell companies are missing a huge demand...Pixel-like cell hardware which enables De-Googling of the OS, and replacement with Privacy ROMs like Graphene OS. Smart users know of Googles continual, ubiquitous Privacy invasions of users. The remedy is the paltry few cell models which allow decent De-Googling. The market us there, and huge.

17 Mbps actually covers 1080p at 60fps with multiple video codecs. However, the test showed the capacity of one "cell", so they will need more bandwidth to support multiple users. That said, 1 Mbps supports 360p with 30fps, which is pretty decent. On top of that, people need this kind of connectivity in remove areas where there are barely other people using the service. So after they raise the bandwidth they'll be able to support multiple users doing audio and video calls. :)

I think Elon is holding off on a Star-Phone until he builds out his cell service, gets the cooperation that he needs from Apple, Samsung, and Google companies on their devices. That cooperation would evaporate if he announced a phone now. He will do it imho when there are features he wants to exploit and the Big-3 phone companies either can't handle the technology or refuse to include it in their hardware. Then the gloves come off! Next on the list is to build out a better Amazon type solution. Most people selling on Amazon don't realize that if their products take off, and there's big money to be made, Amazon will now quickly approach your factory or suppliers, Order 100 times the parts or items at a lower price, then label the new product as an Amazon Basics product at a lower price. Then after they've bankrupted your company, they will raise the price ABOVE your older pricing now that they've killed the competition... it's terrible....

Definitely interested in the cellular StarLink connectivity. I do really like Apple and its products - and its closed but thoroughly interconnected software environment and devices. Frankly, that closely resembles the Tesla software and internet cloud system which is absolutely great as well (and which no other BEV manufacturer can yet even emulate). And, as a matter of fact, I am a long-time Sprint, now T-Mobile, customer. (Hope, if necessary, just to be able to push a button on the app to access Starlink connectivity on my phone ... and just be billed temporarily for those minutes - like roaming.) However, I am not interested in a Tesla phone. Let others do that. Focus SpaceX on space (and deep space communications, including StarLinks, here, Moon, Mars, etc.) and Tesla on smart cars and robots and energy and Xai on AI (and Neuralink on interfaces).

@@jcristina Right .. about Elon ... My family history is with AT&T and Lucent. Phones are great but "sort of" mature technologies that slowly improve (often just cosmetically .. like ICE cars). Let others do that while Musk's companies innovate and disrupt in other technology fields. Eventually that will affect what phone companies do as well. After all, phones are basically user interfaces.

Yeah, that is kind of weird. It would make all the sense in the world for them to come up with their own phone. Maybe his assertive "no" was because the question specifically mentioned Tesla, and its not Tesla that will make it, but some of his other companies? 😀From a technological standpoint it would make more sense if that kind of product came from the Space-X Starlink dev. team.

can't wait for Starlink to be available worldwide...it's especially useful in distaster zones where a storm has destroyed the local on the ground physical infrastructure and communication are disabled. we need this option for backup/resilience. a Tesla phone i would consider it after it's gone through several iterations of trials and sales...as the other providers have a huge head start on Tesla in the phone market... establised iOS and Android makers alike.

OK, so to use the cell to sat service in the beginning here in the USA, you would need to be a Starlink subscriber and a T-Mobile subscriber. Will Verizon, etc get on the band wagon?

I would sign up for mobile service with Starlink if only to have a chance at dumping AT&T. The days of logical personal communication is gone from them and at least Starlink will be higher tech than AT&T. Starlink seems to care as much about technological advancement as making money. AT&T only cares about money. I spent three hours on the phone recently trying to get a technical issue resolved. Most of the time I was on hold. Several times I wanted to simply hang up and give up.

Satellite services are going to be great. As far as cell service, the percentage is in the high 90's for cell sites having generators that are designed to run at least 7 to 10 days if power goes out. It will still be a good option to use satellite but cell service today is pretty good. I love seeing all forms of technology and Starlink will be a major competitor in the cell phone industry.

I’d definitely buy a Tesla or SpaceX phone. One of my biggest gripes on IPhone is being forced to keep certain apps that take up space that I’ll never use like Ihealth app.
Elon always plays everything close to vest and often uses misdirection. So NO on TESLA phone. But never said NO on SpaceX phone or an E-Phone. So what is definite is a Tesla phone won’t carry the Tesla brand. Which makes sense especially since SpaceX is working on communication development so a SpaceX phone or a Tphone TphoneX sounds more likely since SpaceX and T-Mobile are partners for cell to satellite

Though she does now have T-mobile, there is that. Had AT&T for years but for anyone with AT&T they will know that service has been on a roller coaster downhill with no breaks for a while now.
