Jonalyn is not a bad vocalist, she strain only in the upper notes, her middle notes are resonant and supported. She also have a good head voice.

In my opinion, So Hyang is the 21st Century version of Ms. Patti LaBelle. She's like her daughter. So Hyang's belts can match Patti, but in the head voice part, So Hyang slayed here. Her fluid head voice in "In the Flower Garden" is the best head voice I've ever heard. Great video. Two vocal virtuoso, having an epic vocal battle. Loved it ! :)

Other than their ability to belt high, their voices are nothing alike. Patti has a much more metallic quality to her voice, with a witch-like tone that is an acquired taste. Patti's vibrato is also quite wobbly, but no question that her voice is thunderous and electrifying, while Sohyang's is more delicate, angelic, and sublime.
Patti has that soul to her voice, but SoHyang's technique is stunning, and her upper belts are surprisingly pleasant to the ears.

I don't really get how the audio that was used for Patti is fair. I don't blame the person who made the video since when Patti was at her prime they didn't have the technology but the audio's aren't very clear. I feel like they're both even but what does it for me is Patti's effortless soul.

The only note for Sohyang is her greatest Bb5, even Vanessa left far behind on Bb5. B5 above Vanessa can put up a fight there. Just Bb5 from Arirang Alone so OPEN, WIDE RESONANCE, FREE TENSE..
that was a good battle !!! so hyang definitely knows how to belt but i have to give my vote to pattie tho because she hit the notes with ease and to factor her age when she hitting notes while she is well over 50 ..... but that was agood comparison i have never heard anybody come close to pattie hitting notes like that hats off to so hyang

Both are lovely. Patti can go higher than E6 though. So Hwang's vice is majestic. However Patti has a force that no one can reckon with. So Hwang is powerful but Patti has more power. Both voices are easily recognized but Patti comes out on top with force, power, and her over the top attitude

I could never pick one above the other because these are two of the world's greatest belters. I have always considered SoHyang the Korean equivalent of Patti. I can't help but wish that these two would record together and bury us all with the incalculable slayage.

As the notes get higher, patti's technique begins to falter and she is getting the note out without being flat. Normally this isn't something you would notice because the notes are so impressive... SoHyang maintains her technique from start to finish. And actually flourishes as the notes get higher! Remarkable!

Sohyang prefers to sing songs without so much belting, but since she was in competitions where the audience expects such vocal gymnqstics, she makes arrangements to have more belting. This is what her father said in am interview.
I prefer SoHyang because her tone is gorgeous. Whilst Patti's technique is impressive, her tone puts me off.

Damn! Now this is a more fair comparison, since both ladies are capable of hitting and sustaining these high belts. Patti's voice naturally has more volume since she is a dramatic soprano, but sohyang also has some solid weight too for a lyric soprano. Personally, I like Sohyang's tone better, but that's just subjective. What I noticed is that Patti may have more stamina in sustaining the notes, but Sohyang's belting technique sounds healthier overall. Patti today just screams a shit ton of notes that sound very strained, though I gotta give her credit since she is in her 70s. Only thing I hate is patti's wobbly vibrato. If you see her sing the national anthem, you will have mixed and confused feelings, because you notice the power and potential in her voice, but the over dramatic and theatrical way she uses her voice as well. As for head voice, patti got a good solid head voice too. If you guys remembered, she drowned mariah's whistle note with her powerful head voice when they sang Got to Be Real.

Patti has the larger voice. In reality alot of people are not aware of this but Sohyang and MANY artist today Use Reverb and playback which makes their voices sound MUCH grander then they really are but if you put both of them together without amplification patti has the stronger voice,.
You probably have not heard her sing live, it sounds the exact same. Be sure to search it up sometimes

People really have to stop dragging influences/sales/popularity into technical battles, only shows you have nothing else to prove your stance.
Patti's voice is much stronger but So Hyang owns that ease and resonance. However, it's still hard to say because their singing style and techniques were cultured in disparate milieu. Patti grew up in Soul era and th African American society. Her singing represents the spirit of that - harsh, unrestraint, powerful, abrupt, etc. So Hyang grew up in a moderner environment where Pop and R&B are dominant. She has been trained to sing properly. Her voice has more control in various ways of singing.

Guys, the stuff they used for Patti most of it was her in her 50's-60's and those saying she has terrible technique please check again, her technique is one of the most admired, tho her tone isn't as friendly or pleasing as So Hyang they are two different types of Soprano. Patti is dramatic hence why even tho she is well into her age she is still very powerful and loud compared to So Hyang who still has yet touch 40. It's bit biased but, So Hyang did great but, Patti wins just off of the fact she is holding her own well after her prime. Check her singing somewhere over the rainbow.

It's hard for me to choose who is the winner. Both of them are amazing. Patti is the queen, but So Hyang is so good at belting, especially flawless Bb5 belt notes (Arirang alone...), her head voice is also very beautiful (In the flower garden...). Both! But with Patti's clips, most of the clips were really old, recorded with bad quality camera n microphone. Also, there's almost no background processing in her clips.
