    Hey man, thanks for the help.
    I used the knowledge gained from your video to help me set up my welder in the bed of my pickup.
    I have a Lincoln 180HD mig welder powered by a Firman T07571 7500 running watt generator. I bought the same style plug as you from Lowe’s and left the neutral prong unused and everything works perfectly as it should.
    Thank you.

      How is that firman working for you, I just bought a weld pak 180 and I’m trying to find a generator that would run it.

    Don't cut the plug off! Make a whip so that you can maintain the 50 amp three prong on the welding machine in case you have to use it at other places that have that particular plug-in. And I see that you cut the three prong plug off at the end so now you can't use that for anything else neither because it's plastic molded and you can't bear the wires now

  • @stuartlancaster7808

    Replace the 50 amp plug with a 20 amp plug. OSHA approved. Not a fire hazard at all.

      Correct, the neutral prong won’t be used. That’s for getting 110 volts from that combination plug. For just 220 volts, only 3 wires (2 for power and one for ground) are needed.

      @@mitchkronowit3633 I started giving electricity a LOT more respect after getting nailed by 277. I've been shocked several times in my construction career with 110 and kind of never took it too serious. But not anymore!! I felt like Mike Tyson punched me right in the face. Always be safe a respect electricity. I got lucky by not getting hurt too bad. especially since I was up on a scissor lift at the time.

    Lots of controvery over welding with generators. Some say it will kill your inverter welder. Some say it will kill your higher end generators. I run a Lincoln AC 225 off a 5500 running watt generator and I'm told the transformer downgrades my generator output. Sure wish I was an electrical engineer. I can't maff.

    welding stick, 110Amps would be enough for every wall thickness. 1/8" 7016 runs at about 85-90A, and it has deep penetration. (100Amps welding ~2500W)

      chris devito I don’t think it works that way.. ex: if you set your welder to 100 amps, then the current flow from the generator to the welder will be 100amps.. the welder will draw significantly less amps.. only way to figure it out is with a clamp amp meter.. I believe what qwertz is saying you can use an inverter machine that has a regular 120 volt outlet and weld up to 100 amps with one.. max number of amps a 120 outlet will draw is 20 amps before breaker trips.. 120x20 = 2,400 watts..

    • @mrjodoe
      @mrjodoe 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @Chase Williams i think hotstart is an argument. What about 3/32" @80-90A with your 3,5kW generator?
      Data sheet of a 160A IGBT stick welder says it requires a 5kW generator.
      But a 5kW welder generator max out at 220A.
