Hey, we're Chad and Paul. We lived a pretty typical life up until a few years ago. Chad was a speech-language pathologist and Paul was an attorney. We worked in New York City and by all means were set. But we didn't feel settled. We wanted something different. We started a bunch of online businesses, quit our 9-5's and now we live an unconventional life in our van (a Storyteller Overland MODE 4x4). Follow along with us on our journey.

At first, I was put off by the bathroom in the entry way, but by the end of this video, I was sold. That is probably the best use of otherwise dead space I have ever seen. And the solar/battery capabilities of this thing is insane. This is the smartest Class C I have seen. Smarter than Winnebago or Leisure Travel Van. Bravo!

I love this RV, but I gotta ask a few critical questions...
    - the grey tank is on the wrong side. Every dump station assumes driver side. And there seems to be no standard hose hookup. Is this surreptious dump only?
    - Is there a water hose hookup in the garage somewhere?
    - I love the idea of using engine heat for hot water, but is there a water tank temperature sensor somewhere? Also is there a temperature limiter on the faucets to prevent scalding?
    - How do you dump the fresh water tank and flush the lines?
    - You mentioned in another video a new rear bumper but we havent seen it. What would be tow rating?
    - Current license plate mount seems to have no light.
    - the seal between cab and box seems worrysome- this joint will surely flex on rough roads possibly leading to leakage.

  • @HighCountryRambler
    @HighCountryRambler 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

Just wondering why on a small RV where the cab IS part of the living space (swivel chairs) you would wall-off the cab? I use a insulated exterior cover that fits around the cab glass for privacy and insulation and use the front space as limited part of the living space.. Otherwise I love this rig...

7:32 The battery bridge lugs should have the lugs next to each other, not sandwiching the battery terminal to prevent heat build up in the terminal itself. It just protects the batteries better.

In general we agree and we attach our battery lugs next to each other in our builds. We did some maintenance on a couple batteries and we temporarily attached across the terminals, which according to Battle Born is not a big deal. In fact you can find installation videos of theirs showing them attaching the lugs on each side of the battery terminal. Thanks for pointing this out though!

Great RV, great design elements. Small and practical for everyday use. I get that. But 200k, some other Class B Rv's go for half that with all the amenities. What a shame, the Ford transit chassis goes for what, 35-45k? The box is worth 150k? Think I'll wait till something else pops up in the market that's more affordable. Again, love the unit just wish it was reachable for the majority of us who actually want something compact and practical.

Oh man I love this thing! Scout Campers also do the entry shower. I dont understand why more dont do that - its already a stand up space. Its a great spot to leave wet gear. A couple things hold it back for me - the price of a house (not that its not deserving of it after the costs of materials, research and assembly) and the potential for vaporware. There are too many cool products that take deposits and then fail to deliver on the promise, or even at all. I certainly dont have the kind of income that would allow me to take the risk.
A suggestion: throw that box on a good trailer frame. Sure some features wouldnt make it across - heating water with the coolant lines, for example. But most of it would be a simple swap. With many newer trucks having the option for a second alternator... Heck you could take that front slider door and have it open onto a small patio or sunroom on the tongue :D

Cameraman -show the van not the man! Why is narrator in the frame and we don't get to see what he is talking about? Show the van in every frame, and save 5% of screen time for faces. VAN, not MAN. This was very frustrating. Do not show narrator. Zoom camera into fridge, bathroom, kitchen, bedroom. This is very poor camera work.
Van is poorly laid out. First thing you see is a toilet when you walk in? How pleasant. This entire side should be open for drivers view. Conceptually sounds good but in practice not a good idea. But at least, it dries fast near the door and vents out well.
Fridge is way over on other side of kitchen. Not a good placement. However, this looks like NovaKool, with a Danfoss compressor, which is a good modern fridge running on AC or DC power.
Huge dinette, which is outdated and not useful. Put an office space there with long counter, cabinets underneath and chairs alongside. This dinette design dates from 1940s. Dead dead dead! Look at what Euro RVs have - a lounge in the same space. Dinettes are dead. I hate them. I ripped mine out first thing. Put in a long desk, cabinets, and a good office chair.
Glued in cabinets not screwed in is poor quality, but the sleek profile is very nice. Good latches. Nice color.
Victron power grid is excellent. This looks robust and this is what all RVs should have. Very good battery power!!!
The garage is a game changer borrowed from Euro RVs. Don't know why it took America so long to copy this great idea.
    Solarized. Yes!!!
Bed is nice and roomy, and its own private space. Works well.
Exterior is simple, and no messy decals plastered all over, big win!
Thank you for no music, what a joy. Good RV. I think the internals are better than the Ekko, but the layout is not as good. The Ekko looks like on the outside too, with all the cabinets outlined like pockets on pants. See what The Fit RV channel (James and Stef) have done to their Ekko in mods. I love their lounge /dinette area, this is much more attractive. You could borrow that idea for the next evolution.

I absolutely love this unit. Some of the electrical choices are maybe something I wouldn't have done (specifically that 12v -> AC charging) but literally everything else I am loving. The suspension upgrades that we all pay to add to our Sprinters, the top-of-the-line Tern Overland windows.. I'm impressed.

I know this is a year late reply, but perhaps these guys were on to something by running an inverter from the Transit alternator. The Victron thinks it’s “shore power” charging, and it pulls roughly 100A at idle. By contrast, there was quite a number of 48V alternator failures last year, particularly on Sprinter chassis. To my understanding the root cause was heat related, but for owners of high end vans the result was often a stranded van with MB and the DC system providers pointing fingers at each other. Hopefully things have settled down by now as the lead times to get MB authorized service often took longer (and further) than expected.

I have a 2021 Revel, and the AEON is not much more than what the Revels are going for now, but with superior build quality, significantly better insulation, and substantially more lithium power with 700W solar on a more useful MPPT controller. Depending on the conditions, you can run the A/C almost indefinitely while boondocking versus a day at best with a RoamRig upgrade.

Clutch! Checks all the boxes! Once you get past the negative feng shui of the toilet next to the front door .... this is the ultimate! Would like to see havlock wool as an option for the insulation -- otherwise, this is a bit of a masterpeice for a world in economic flux and climatic change. Couple of questions --- glue (for cabinets / fiberglass, etc.) --- what is it? Any off-gassing? Can you order the Ford chassis in Eco-Boost? Suggestion: Where the drawers and steps are beneath the bed -- give an option for a dog-friendly climate controled crate (instead of the drawers). Do this -- and you've nailed it! WAY better than the Ekko. Bring the price down, a bit, and they won't be able to keep up with the orders.

There is a 2" dump valve and a standard hose bib actuated ball valve you can open/close from inside to dump the gray tank.

Well-thought out for light off-roading and boondocking. However, we could not tolerate an E-W bed in a $200K rig, nor the heat pump unit hanging off the back. Adding 2 feet for a N-S bed is a poor solution as that will significantly decrease maneuverability and increase price. Finally, the rear overhang and steps look troubling for off-pavement; is that the exhaust hanging down in back? Best wishes in success but not quite what we are looking for.

Winnebago’s product benefits from the typical stylistic design elements of a ‘big box’ RV manufacturer, calculated to draw the attention and approval of mass production RV market consumers.
Though I can’t compare the Aeon to the Ekko I’ve examined …everything I’ve seen for 18 months regarding this vehicle and it’s designers, inspires confidence for legitimately objective, analytical reasons. (Versus infatuation with attractive automotive packaging)
Analysis of the tedious technical details that determine systems performance and quality of recreational experience however, is where the Ekko begins losing ground. To be fair, until a handful of Aeon ‘beta units’ are put through the rigors of frequent ownership usage, the prospective design advantages must await validation to transcend the theoretical.
The Ekko FB owner’s group has no shortage of valid complaints documenting unacceptable QC, photographic proof of assembly-line ineptitude, product recalls and shoddy dealership practices.
Aesthetic appeal is a vital component in luring a specific market demographic …to part with approximately $175K.
But the pleasing contours, attractive finishes, complementary color palate and contrasting accents serve a far GREATER function (particularly in the RV industry).
RV manufacturers fully realize that the thin veil of a well conceived first impression, are the ‘smoke & mirrors’ essential to crafting a magically convincing showroom illusion.
Whether the intended aesthetic is: ‘sporty, flashy, rustic or understated elegance’ …each superficial facade seeks to win the prospective buyer’s confidence, through ‘visual redirection’ (sleight-of-hand stagecraft), so indicators of poor quality, are either unnoticed, or acceptably rationalized.
If a more refined, visually appealing integrated level of automotive finish is vital to a shopper, things like an HDTV, surround speakers, blu ray player and bike rack …likely matter as well. The Ekko then, is the better choice.
