But, I concede that I could be placing my own meaning on it to make it make sense to me, 'Calling out sick' just doesn't sit well in my British ear.
Going off of the one about turning the other way, I'd make it socially acceptable that when you ask someone for directions to a place you have a vague idea of where it is (you know it's "that way", but not WHERE "that way" it is), and they say "oh yes, you want to go "that way" (which is the opposite to YOUR "that way"), to completely disregard their instructions and carry on your "that way" without first pretending to go their "that way" until you're out of sight.

I'm 25 and the not being in relationships things in your mid 20's thing is something that i've had experience with some people having opinions on when they're not warranted. I had 2 relationships as a teenager but once I got diagnosed with Ehlers Danlos Syndrome when I was 18 I decided to just focus on myself for a while and get used to life with the many hospital appointments and things that came with the diagnosis, plus with a 2 year battle with DWP to get PIP (disability benefits are so rediculously hard to get) there just wasn't the time for relationships. Learning about how if I get into a relationship and maybe we decided to move in together or even if at some point we were to decide to get married, My benefits could either my reduced or completely stopped because the government could deem that I wouldn't need the money because I'd be with someone who has an income and could support me is something I just can't risk. If my benefits were taken away because I was in relationship and that relationship became abusive, just as an example, it would leave me with little to no means to be able to support myself if I was able to escape the abuse. I've had people, including some family members, make remarks about how sad it is that I don't have a girlfriend. I also had some people say that I Should be grateful for the ones who have asked me out and went on to imply that being with a disabled person is such a heavy burden I should be thankful anyone would want to be in a relationship with me. Jessica Kellgren-Fozard has a great video called 'I lost money when I got married' which better explains some of the problems that can come with being on PIP and ESA and being in a serious relationship, maybe one day I'll feel brave enough to risk being in a relationship but for right now it's something that just fills me with so much anxiety and people judging me for not having a relationship since before I was 18 is really not fun to deal with.

Can straight panic defence be a thing?
Imagine how differently people (men for example no offense) would act if they knew hitting on, or worse to a woman who isn't interested would be a legal reason for her to physically retaliate 🤔
I was just thinking this! If not then I guess the government doesn’t view all sexualities as equal!

Fake Service dogs. Like come on, there are people who need their dog, and you can be sued and/or fined for your dog attacking a service dog. Please leave pets especially those not trained for public access. Your dog lunging at a service dog, can and likely will get kicked or pushed away, if it gets caught before it touches a service dog. Especially smaller service dogs, because they will be hurt more severely.
The gay panic law really scares the crap out of me! How is this law A LAW???!!! Great that i am coming to the UK not the US... that's mess up
How was it unsuccessfully repealled... twice?
The states considered banning it between 2014 - 2021 those are a lot of recent dates...
It isn't a law. It's a legal defence in court, hence why it can't be "repealed." The only way for the argument to become invalid is for higher courts to reverse the judicial precedence set by lower courts. It also means that a jury can reject the defence if they so please, and likely have more often than not.

Canadian here, and I've always heard "call in" sick. "Call out" is what you do if you're challenging someone to a fight.
David - or as a tradesperson or paramedic when one get a 'call out' for work.
Figuring out what's socially acceptable in different cultures is hard sometimes. Like when you go over to your Indian friend's house and she gets upset because you brought a water bottle. "Do you think I can't provide you water? Do you not think I'm an attentive host?" 😂
Or when people walk into my house and don't take there damn shoes off... Get your grubby trainers off my carpets
This is so true.
About now I'd REALLY love to pay to just take a kind of class that gives you the basics of what you should and shouldn't do in certain cultures.
Of course it varies by region, so that's why it'd only cover the basics that all (or almost all) of the inhabitants there agree on.

Or in France where it's impolite to bring wine. It's like I know your tastes better than you know your own tastes. Or your tastes in wine sucks, here's a better one. Like damn chill, just chuck the free bottle or regift it to someone less snobby.

In Australia. Always used “call in sick”, as you call into the office to let them know you won’t be coming in.

Ah my bad, got a tad carried away there 😅 - but feel free to take it as a compliment, as far as I’m concerned it should have been 39k !
'Call in' makes sense to me, it's the direction of the call, as in 'I placed a CALL from my house IN to the office where I work to tell them I'm not coming in today'.

Since you will be living until you are 82 you have a long time to get into a relationship.

@@ay_kay_en yeah but like what do they do with it that I should be concerned about haha that’s the thing? I just don’t have data so interesting that I want to go through a headache of a process to hide it.

I find it annoying when I'm online shopping. I remember how a few years ago I was looking up cookbooks on various websites to get as a birthday present for my mom.
