I am SO excited! I just made this glorious soup and ate it for breakfast! I made mine with chicken broth because I am recovering from a cold. I used a chunk of sourdough bread I made and I also added some lime juice. I LOVE it. It is so creamy and divine! Thank you❤️
Thank you for sharing about making the soup with the chicken broth, the sourdough bread you made and the lime juice. Yummy! I hope you are feeling much better👩🏻
Sounds so good. Have you ever eaten it without blending the bread in? Creamed/blended would also be a bases for a great sauce and your using your stale bread up as a thickener. You two are the sweetest couple on TH-cam. God Bless Both of You. Thank You for all your wonderful easy recipes from what these days seems like easier times. At the time people probably did not think so though. People then did hard physical labor to live day to day and appreciated everything they had. My Grandfather came to WI when he was 7 yrs old from Prague, Czech. Grandmother Norwegian....Garlic was grown in abundance and used in so much. Potatoes ground in a metal grinder that clamped to the table with tons of garlic and plenty of oil on bottom an sides crispy brown outside and soft inside, in a large deep pan baked in a wood fire oven.
Thank you for your kind words. I have never eaten it without blending the bread in. I enjoyed hearing about your Grandparents. Thank you for watching ❤️👩🏻
Your potato/garlic dish sounds good!! I grew up on a farm on eastern Long Island, NY (of Depression-era parents, Italian-American mom), and we always had a giant sack of Long Island potatoes on hand....but no fresh garlic, only powdered. Would have been a great addition to many of the ubiquitous potato dishes we had.
I guess if the pantry was starting to get bare, this would at least be the makings of something hot to eat, and tasty too. Maybe we can get some meat tomorrow 😐. Our forebears were tough.
My Nan made this during Lent, but she used half water, half home canned tomatoes. She'd serve it with a simple relish tray. A lovely, filling meal for a big family.
Yummy, this looks absolutely delicious, I can't wait to make it!! I love homeade soups, even when it's hot out!! My mother was Italian and my Father was Polish, love and blessings to you and Grandpa ❤❤
If you like the depression recipes you should check out Great depression cooking with Clara, she was in her 90's when her grandson started video taping her cooking her depression recipes, she has so many wonderful and inexpensive recipes to try and she tells interesting stories from when she was a young girl growing up, she has since passed away but I think you would enjoy watching her videos
Glad to hear your Mother was Italian and your Father was Polish just the opposite of my parents but a great combination. Thank you for telling me about Clara so sorry she passed but I will enjoy her watching her videos. Love and blessings to you also👩🏻
This soup sounded so good. I had to try it out. Sadly, mine didn't turn out well. My stale Italian bread was moldy, so I improvised by using thick sliced sandwich bread. Everything else I followed. It was like garlic water. I was able to improvise again by adding a cup of instant potato flakes and some shredded cheddar cheese. ...then it was perfect. Guess you really need to use the Italian bread!
That’s interesting, I never heard of this … it’s amazing how resourceful people were during that time…. Thank you for taking the time to produce and posting …
I was alerted to this recipe from a post on another one of your videos. I'm going to try this one also. I plan to make the corn chowder today for the second time. It's a great recipe.
I am happy to hear you are making the Corn Chowder Soup for the second time. I hope you enjoy the Garlic Bread Soup as much as Grandpa and I Thank you for watching 👩🏻
I really love a good soup, but for me, I think you can stop at the toasted bread in garlic butter stage. I can almost smell that coming through the screen! Yum!!😋 Ok, now I've gotten up to the tasting part....ok, soup it is! Grandpa's reaction has totally convinced me. This is the best of Italian cooking----making something sublime with simple ingredients, treated simply, and never letting anything go to waste. Looks sooo good!!! Thanks again for another winner, Grandma!!👍 BTW, I love grated cheese as a soup garnish, too, especially on homemade chicken noodle soup. I prefer romano cheese, as it's sharper and saltier than parm....but I should probably follow your example and switch to parm, to cut back a bit on the salt.
Grandpa and I love garlic bread but when we have it we can eat the whole loaf. We enjoy the soup and we are not eating as much bread. Hope you try the soup. Have a good day👩🏻
@@GrandmaFeral Well, that's the problem with bread, isn't it?😉 Especially garlic bread.😋 And bread (any kind) needs lots of butter..... I really hope I can make this soup sometime, but right now I'm cutting out as many carbs as possible.😕 Hope you have a good day, too. Stay cool this coming week!🥵
YUMMO!!! I can not wait to make and EAT this soup! I can smell it already! Thank YoU So Very Much for Sharing this Wonderful recipe Dear Sweet Grandma! 🍵 ❤️
I feel like I’ve done this as well, Italian background but not necessarily Italian in origin… she’s right on point. Even though I do this when I’m sick and add literally 50 cloves of garlic before the immersion blender… this woman is amazing …. Chefs kiss
@@GrandmaFeral Such simple ingredients, but very delicious! I tried this recipe today as well as the potato and beans today. They were both very good :)
We love these money saving recipes, and this one sounds great. I wish we could get good Italian bread out here in the boondocks. Thanks for sharing these recipes.
@@GrandmaFeral I taught myself to make bagels that are almost as good as the ones I remember from childhood on visits to New York, but good Italian bread I have not been able to replicate in any way, shape, or form.
I was thinking exactly the same thing. This soup is completely dependent on good quality Italian bread, something that's sadly lacking outside the NY/NJ area. Some of the abominations that pass for bread in other areas are true tragedies. Me? Homesick? Nah.
I am glad you like my no salt added recipes. It started when my Mom got older and she had to be on a no salt added diet. I started making her meals that way. We don’t miss the salt at all. Thank you so much for watching and have a good day👩🏻
