  • We strongly recommend that you contact your veterinarian before you medicate your horse.

    I'm training to become medical assistant, so correct me if I'm wrong, but it's pretty safe to assume that all med draws with a vial remain the same, whether you are a human or a horse. You're supposed to inject air into the vial equaling the amount of medication you're withdrawing. Also, never recap by hand, always scoop....and keep the vial flat on the table when inserting the needle. I'm no doctor but I know that much.

    You must draw up air in the amount you want to take out of the bottle and inject it into the bottle then withdraw the amount equal to the air you injected. You can see the struggle of removing fluid and all the air that came with it because of not doing this step.

    Wrong. First u draw air in syringe as much as u need to draw the fluid or medication in syringe. Do not teach wrong method please.

    even though that was a clean needle that is a very dangerous recap, just lay the cap on a level surface and use one hand to slide needle back in cap

  • @presouz5

    I’m really confused because the vial I got is so tight with the air when I try to draw the fluid out and just pull the plunger back into the syringe nothing comes out don’t you need to push air in there or something?

    Hold the vial on the table and insert the needle while it’s there. Putting the needle in the vial while it is in mid air is asking for a needle stick injury.

    See this is exactly how I tried to get mine out I don't know what the issue is with my birth control this month I've never had an issue until this month but even with me holding it upside down like I always do I was just having such an issue getting the liquid to completely suck up into the syringe in a single stick I had to do it three times and I still didn't get every last drop but I didn't want to do it again because I was going to hurt myself with a dull needle if I kept going. I never had this issue before I will say it was a different needle this time they were out of the 21 gauge and gave me a 23 so I don't know if that had something to do with it but I thought maybe I was doing it wrong but I literally did it just like you're showing in the video.

    Recapping like that is what leads to most needle stick injuries.

      I think this is mostly meant to show people how to withdraw medication that they're giving to themselves so I mean you stick yourself with your own needle you're not going to do much but prick your finger but of course if you're giving it to someone else you should definitely recap the needle in a safer way. I always just throw the cat back on never been stuck but I would be more careful if I were giving to someone else and not myself.

    You NEVER re-sheath a needle that’s not right at all.
    Also, you’re supposed to inject the same amount of air that is equal to the solution you want to draw up to increase pressure in the vial so the medication is drawn up smoothly without difficulty and therefore without causing any rough handling.

    You guys should recap the needle with only one hand for safety reasons

  • @haileytalmage2250
    @haileytalmage2250 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So many risks for needle sticks in this. Never recap the needle unless scooping with one hand and the vial should be on the table when punctured. And yes you need to draw up an amount of air equal to the dose you'll be drawing up.

    you won't be able to pull back on the plunger to draw the liquid in because you will create a vacuum in the bottle
