Is there a reason when “scrolling the road” to bump security over and over rather than have the same soldiers pull security until the element has crossed? I would think having the same soldiers pulling security throughout the crossing gives a better chance for them to identify reference points, identify and focus in on trouble spots, etc. If a new soldier pulls up every 10-15 seconds to relieve the previous guards, they will barely even get their bearings before it is time for them to move out and would have a good chance of missing movement during these transitions. I know I’m overthinking it, but the one thing I learned in the Army was that many things are done simply because they have always been done that way whether or not it was optimal or even effective.
The reasoning is to not break or slow down the pace. Not to be used when there is a high chance of contact while crossing the LDA. That being said you are very much correct. Just important to remember that all these types of battle drills are to be used as templates and should be molded to fit specific situations.
That's not the right way to do it if you want it 'official'. After the 1st two cross(this will be a rifleman & a SAW) they cover the left/right side then the third guy crosses. 3rd guy is pretty much always medic(or SL if it's not a 16-man, but it's 16-man team in bat). 3rd guy takes 1st guys place & 3rd guy moves up to safe point to secure the area then 4th guy moves up & then the other 3 move up! :) 4th guy is SL or commo if its 16-man -2nd girl in regiment! :)
