    Batteries can only take in and expel so much energy in a period, getting hot and cooling is one way to manage the issue.
    But smaller/lower powered bikes are the way to go as you can take what you have now and with limited power, the range is extended and lighter weight overall making more difference again. Great commuters.

    • @Neojhun
      @Neojhun ปีที่แล้ว

      WTF that's erroneous. The main thing high performance Electric bikes are known for is overkill power and torque output. Cooling has been a problem in the past because many have not had much active cooling, seems like it's time to invest in liquid cooling of the battery pack. But still the previous high performance electric bikes could handle a decent amount of thrashing. Limited power just for commuter makes no sense, the only real way to make e-bikes attractive is brute force.

    Looks good to go, but £30k for an electric Speed Triple would be a bloody hard sell.
    The only electric bikes I can imagine selling well would be 50cc or maybe 125cc equivalents that can be ridden on L Plates and cost a couple of grand to buy and a pittance to insure.
    I think the market for 150+hp superbikes is going to be an impossible one to convert, it's city dwellers that want a cheap and quick way of getting about that will buy into electric.

    • @KuroSanArts
      @KuroSanArts 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      I'm always banging on about this, it feels like the EV market is jumping from Model T Ford to Bugatti Veyron, but not focusing on everything in between that most people will be buying. If you want the motorcycle world to go green, then we need to see EV equivalents in both performance and cost, of the CG/CB125's and CB/GS500's of the world.
      I also think the big manufacturers should be looking into ways of developing kits to swap the engine in an old ICE bike to an EV and enable the continued use of something that would otherwise be scrapped, even though it's a perfectly usable vehicle!

    • @noggintube
      @noggintube 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @DanielBrain
      @DanielBrain 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I wonder if the problems more the battery tech being expensive. Say the battery tech in the bike costs £10k to produce, putting it in a 50cc/125cc equivalent shell might put you at £14k sale price. That is a big ask for a learner bike that would otherwise be £5k. While the people running out and buying £25k ducatis might see the benefit of using something electric instead for a little bit more.
      Hopefully over time when all of this hits mass production the prices will drop substantially.

    • @quacktac

    How the TE-1 wheelies, must be rigged for the photo opt. To succeed with buyers, it’ll need to provide selectable power output software, albeit the mileage range provided. Sure the base 175hp is good for most cases, with maximum mileage provided. But there’s a squirrel next to me on a H2/R that I want to deal with. Hence I’d need to dial it up to 300hp to set things right. The motor has produced 670hp in testing, so 300hp (half that figure) should be an available option to buyers. Sure I’d need to recharge it early, but that’s the price of victory in a race. Streetfighters aren’t wimpy, so you gotta have a desirable selling point.

    I beat a fair number of teams developing electric vehicles were ever so slightly irritated when news broke of synthetic fuel... I would have liked a question about how "green" this bike (or something like it) would really be, especially after recent reports (I forget the sources, but didn't one of the reports come out of Volvo?) that electric vehicles don't become less polluting in total until like 60-80k miles? And then it's about time to replace the battery? Seems a bit ridiculous. Are these things really "the future" with numbers like that? Maybe those numbers are different for motorcycles than cars?

      I'm not exactly sure but I think it is the worst example they are taking in the report. I'm guessing it would be better if you were to use clean energy to charge it (like solar on your own roof) instead of fast charging everytime with power from a gas plant or whatever.
      I'm not sure about battery life as that seems very anecdotal to consider how long a battery lasts but at least to me it seems that there are not many battery replacements happening.
      In any case I would not trade in my ice car that I currently own that should still run for a decade for an ev but I would very much consider it if it were a new purchase to replace a broken or end of life car.
      The issue is that EVs seem to be something like a luxury consumable lease instead of a practical longtime transportation tool because that's how they build and market them. I hope that changes.
      I do think 125cc equivalent electric bikes or scooters have a great place in urban commuting in Europe.

      @@_Makanko_ You hit the nail on the head. These bikes don't cover great mileages. The mileages we're talking about will thus never reach the critical point at which an EV starts to offset its superior initial ecological cost with reduced riding emissions.
      A 125 equivalent on the other hand...
      See, I'm looking to add a 125cc commuter to stable alongside my Ninja 1000 as the thou simply doesn't make sense around town. There's not a single convincing option in that sector of the market.

    Stunning looking bike. I'd love one. 100 mile range would suit me for my daily commute, and with care I could make it to see family.

      Yeah I know he said Harley Livewire price but at the end of the day they aren’t going to make it so he can say anything. There’s no way that bike would be the same as Livewire. Just look at it. £35k minimum. All just conjecture of course as we will never know.
