I'm so sick of these "data breaches". No I don't want your credit monitoring service that we get for free. The FCC should force them to pay consumers directly for every data breach.
WHY DID AT&T not come out with the truth of all the data breach? I thought there was a federal law that stated buisness were supposed to come out with this information ASAP. Not 2 weeks later.
I had ATT years ago and never gave them my ss number. Never was asked for it. Wouldn't have given it if they HAD asked. They sent the bill, I paid the bill. No ss number required.
And you can, and you might win, and everyone involved (meaning all the customers who did not respond to the lawsuit postcard) will be mailed a $2.47 check in the mail, in 5-7 years after you finally get the company to settle for their mistake.
I have a serious question: I've come to the logical conclusion that my name, SSN, DOB, etc., has been stolen many times. Yours have too. Dozens, maybe hundreds of times. How many times does the same information need to be stolen? It's an attention grabber in the news when this happens, but the horse has already left the barn, and keeps leaving that barn. I do have my credit reports frozen, and only unfreeze them when applying for credit. That only helps with a tiny part of the problem. The scam emails, texts, phone calls, hacking, etc., has got out of hand. I don't believe anything I'm contacted about anymore.
They sell your data, including locational data. There should be an option for the user to opt out of their data retention and if not done, they should be liable for any expenditures.
Actual data privacy laws should be implemented. This would make it way easier for you to get your data off their platforms and make them liable for holding onto this data
So tell me. Everytime these companies are hacked; everytime the bank makes a mistake; everytime an account is compromised, WHY AM I TOLD "THIS IS WHAT YOU NEED TO DO." YOU CORRECT THE PROBLEM. YOUR INCOMPETENCE CAUSED IT.
Companies with data breaches should compensate victims. Peace of mind is lost along with more time spent monitoring credit. And data breaches w old customers is negligence.
Over the weekend, i received a letter from Prudential Insurance that they had a data breach. I'm an ATT customer, so that's another data breach. My city, Sacramento, California, says I now am *required* to open an account to pay my dog's annual license fee of $10. I'm supposed to open an account and provide personal info to pay $10 *once a year* . But, of course, it's a "secure site" so no worries! And, paying online means the money goes through some company where? Well, it doesn't pay local people who would then spend some of that money locally.
Yeah, so putting people's identities behind Social Security Numbers (SSNs) and tying their entire lives to that insecure number is and was always a terrible idea. The SSN should be used exclusively by the Federal Government for...collecting Social Security. Everyone else? Time to come up with a vastly different strategy. I recommend issuing private keys on personal HSMs and start using PKI for identity. If someone steals the public key, so what? Public keys are useless without the private key. And public keys are also useless outside of the context for which they are established. Problem solved.
I still have my original Social Security card that was issues to me in 1964. In big bold print along the bottom of the card is clearly reads "Not To Be Used For Identification". I have no idea why they dropped that. Now its commonly used as an ID and our ssn links us to everything.
The problem is: The U.S. government ITSELF really started the problem the moment they started using the SSN as our personal taxpayer IDs on official IRS forms, which in turn led to companies having to collect their employee SSNs for things like tax withholding purposes. Banks also legally have to collect SSNs for things like interest income reporting. Things only grew from there over the years and decades as the need for a personal UUID grew-for example, with credit reporting agencies, etc., and thus the SSN gradually became the de-facto go-to standard, since it was the closest thing to an individual UUID that they already had, almost like the path of least resistance, and things like HSM and PKI hadn’t been invented yet. In many places, one can make up their own number instead of using their SSN, but the trouble is: In the absence of an explicit policy being stated upfront, how does one know for sure when they do and don’t have to use their SSN? In theory, what you propose could work, but you CANNOT just propose, adopt, and then implement such an enormous policy shift like this overnight, and there are BOUND to be disagreements about who’s to pay for this massive shift, be it government (meaning us, the taxpayers), business (meaning all of their customers), or a combination thereof, and HOW they’ll all pay for it. In a democracy, you CANNOT simply declare “Big business / Government/ People should pay for it,” and expect that to be the end of it. That only works in a dictatorship like Russia or China.
I look at it like this...IF At&t incompetence results in my identity theft even even after 2+ years of not being their customer, then their senior managment, their homes and their families all need to be considered fair game for retribution.
The latest craze, The company sells your data then calls it a breach. then they offer you protection as a result. They couldn't protect it the first time. If you get protection, don't get it from the clowns that got hit. More access to your data that they will vend.
They need to send all their notices by mail. This has been an ongoing problem for the past year and a half. AT&T was hacked about 2 years ago as was Corewell and there was a problem with UAW.
There is a reason why there are 65 million "former customers" of AT&T. Oh, and why does a tech company even need my social security number? These tech companies are the same ones offering you internet security for a fee. How is that working for you?
Experian got popped a long time ago and so did the Office of Personnel Management. American SSNs and personal details are effectively public. Freeze your credit unless you're applying for a new loan or credit card and stay safe
About 20 to 25 years ago, I had an AT&T land line. I did not receive a notice from AT&T but instead, I received an alert yesterday from a credit monitoring service. My question is: Why do they hold on to former customers'private information (apparently) forever?
There's a question I think most people haven't asked. What's the timeline? What's the timeline of the compromise accounts? Because you might not be on Att anymore but you got caught in the timeline when it was hacked/compromised.
Oh my. Isn't this what all of us barely surviving people need? I guess it is what it is and some of us, including me, will have to get one of their children or grandchildren to figure out what steps to take. I hope you all don't have any trouble. Blessed be.
This has caused multiple attempts to pull large sums from a friend's bank acct. They've printed what looks to be cashiers checks with fhe friend's name AND signature on it, for amounts from $500 up to the exact amout of her last paycheck, and her bank paid it!!! So far, there have been attempts as large as $10k via acct/routing numbers, totalling close to $50k. Obviously, someone had/has access to her bank account thanks to this, and oddly, she just left ATT in April! She's having to close the bank acct totally tomorrow, after having it for decades. Its a lazy institution when "don't let ANY wire transfers OR checks of ANY KIND go through, we don't use em!" won't sink in or be deployable. How deplorable, oddly. 😂 CLASS ACTION PAYCHECK COMIN on this one folks!
The reason why I believe the fine for this should be severe is because there is absolutely no reason they should ask for your ss number for most services... Even if the ss number is needed AT&T should not hold on to this for life.... If a company choses to hold on to information like social security number they should face financial ruin in fines when the breech the public trust...
We need a public co-op version of ATT or your server that is properly protected in the first place. Service at cost when it's publicly owned and no monkey business . It's an insider job.
I’m ready to get rid of them they have had outages after outages in my area even offing me a lower bill & now they are sending messages about reduced bills but you don’t know if maybe this isn’t even them & a scam their service has gotten worse & worse.
at&t is gonna be paying otu the yingyang if my data is compromised like i haven had them for years like why would my data still be in their system like after xx amount of days i would expect that data to be deleted like they should not retain the data not to long after you have canceled service with them any data containing private information needs to start being encrypted like am i gonna end up starting to start paying for indentity theft protection because companies cant keep things secure
Wow shocking! Not. But let’s keep focusing on Apple, Amazon and Tik Tok. Then they will fined and we don’t get the money they force them to,pay. What a joke
A lot of illegal immigrants are working on AT&T network and have complete access to the network. The sub contractors are the main ones that allow the illegal immigrants to breach AT&T security
I'm so sick of these "data breaches". No I don't want your credit monitoring service that we get for free. The FCC should force them to pay consumers directly for every data breach.
Lol! 😂 As if the FCC is out to protect the general public. Now THAT is rich.
WHY DID AT&T not come out with the truth of all the data breach? I thought there was a federal law that stated buisness were supposed to come out with this information ASAP. Not 2 weeks later.
I agree, we need to do class action
You mean 4 years later.
Why are they holding on to data of former customers? Especially if it's SS numbers. This should be illegal.
Sue Sue Sue!!!!!
True. Also there should be a law regarding holding your ss for a long period of time.
I had ATT years ago and never gave them my ss number. Never was asked for it. Wouldn't have given it if they HAD asked. They sent the bill, I paid the bill. No ss number required.
Why are you keeping former members sensitive information if you are not able to guarantee it is secure? You should be sued.
We should be able to sue at&t
yes we can
And you can, and you might win, and everyone involved (meaning all the customers who did not respond to the lawsuit postcard) will be mailed a $2.47 check in the mail, in 5-7 years after you finally get the company to settle for their mistake.
@FriendofMineralTown that's about right
@@FriendofMineralTownRight and those penny on the dollars class action checks is some straight up BS.
@@FriendofMineralTown I'd only think it's worth it if it's at least 2.50
Haha! The jokes on whoever who stole it. My credit score is 200.
Dying 😅
Lmao. Mine too with maybe $2 in my acct.
I have a serious question: I've come to the logical conclusion that my name, SSN, DOB, etc., has been stolen many times. Yours have too. Dozens, maybe hundreds of times. If you ain't rich, you ain't sheet. That's just how society rolls.
A Million for each person with information leaked…
This is ridiculous and so time consuming for everyone.
Don't _"consider"_ doing a credit freeze and instead just do it! It's free across all three of the major credit bureaus.
Good Advice.
I’m sick of ATT high prices and low quality service…
When the CEO's go to prison, this will stop.
If you can't secure the data, do not collect it.
Govt Regulations are Protections for people.
Yeah, it's crazy. It's almost like when you punish people for making stupid decisions, they tend to stop making them...
They sell your data, including locational data. There should be an option for the user to opt out of their data retention and if not done, they should be liable for any expenditures.
With all the money they make, how is it that they do not have the best of the best security?
security tends to be an afterthought...well until stuffs like this happens. At the end of the day, profitability drives funding.
Actual data privacy laws should be implemented. This would make it way easier for you to get your data off their platforms and make them liable for holding onto this data
Sue them
They spend lots of money" upgrading" but have lousy internet security. It's an insider scam.
Companies with data breaches should compensate victims. Peace of mind is lost along with more time spent monitoring credit. And data breaches w old customers is negligence.
And the US congress is more worried about TikTok than anything else.
Over the weekend, i received a letter from Prudential Insurance that they had a data breach. I'm an ATT customer, so that's another data breach.

Some how I can't believe that the outage a month ago was due to an update roll out now.
Don’t consider freezing your credit records…just go ahead and freeze them. I’ve done it for years.
I was about to post the same thing. Don't _"consider"_ doing a credit freeze and instead just do it! It's free across all three credit bureaus.
At&t is like Facebook....they absolutely can't be trusted with customer data.
The latest craze, The company sells your data then calls it a breach. then they offer you protection as a result. They couldn't protect it the first time. If you get protection, don't get it from the clowns that got hit. More access to your data that they will vend.
They give 1 year of monitoring: I gotta worry about this for the rest of my natural life... They need to face financial harm for this...
They need to send all their notices by mail. This has been an ongoing problem for the past year and a half. AT&T was hacked about 2 years ago as was Corewell and there was a problem with UAW.
Those pesky auto workers unions.......
There is a reason why there are 65 million "former customers" of AT&T. Oh, and why does a tech company even need my social security number? These tech companies are the same ones offering you internet security for a fee. How is that working for you?
A class action lawsuit ought to do the job.
Time to sue
So even after i quit att they’re still screwing me….
Lol
All that info will be brokered for millions on the internet.

Sue Sue Sue Sue and don’t use AT&T
$1.60 check for you, millions for all the lawyers. Unfortunately this doesn't benefit the victims, wish the govt could fix that too.
What else can you use?
All telecommunications companies have been hacked.

🤣😂 man when is there ever going to be a fix to all this hacking.
When the put the CEO in prison for it.
Did AT&T sell our info? That is the question. It should have been safe.
We need a public co-op version of ATT or your server that is properly protected in the first place. Service at cost when it's publicly owned and no monkey business . It's an insider job.
Why do they need to keep our ssn on file.
All of this is linked to the medical system especially hospitals where they do have your social security number and will try to breach through AT&t
Where do you sign up for your refund ?
Absolutely cooked
Man , are going to use their ghost name now instead?
Cingulair
It's spelled "CINGULAR"
I am not an ATT customer and I never were. My bank notified me that my data were exposed in the latest ATT data breach... How that process? Any idea?
Your bank got robbed.
You cannot retrieve my things.
You want more access?
Fascinating.

1. There's nothing you can do about it.
2. If you ain't rich, you ain't sheet. That covers 90% of the planet's population.
3. Stay in your lane.
How can I sue...they never gave me equafax data breach
Currently all corruption is under her leadership not mine
I'm suing anybody using my information simple🤞🏼
Where’s their apology to us and compensation!
I was far more concerned with AT&T's donations to far-right Republican candidates. That's why I left them.
Oh good thing it’s the company that paid the bill
I'd lawyer up
I just did a credit freeze
AND ... you have a ( smart ? ) electricity meter .. you ( might ? ) lose power ( remotely ! ) ....... DAVE™🛑
There’s bad actors on Facebook too be careful
So who did it? They never say who does it? India? China? Russia?
