Reminds me of Norm from This Old House… except it’s gardening. He’s the person with the tools and knowledge in front of the camera! 😂❤

Great video! What is the best type of support wire for grape vines. Right now I am using a thin, plastic-coated swimming pool cover wire and my grape vine strings seem to be avoiding wrapping around the plastic-coated wire. I am considering replacing the wire with clothesline wire that might be aluminum, steel, or stainless steel. Thanks

I had a problem. I had one bud break up at the top then it dessicated, i ended up with the only surviving bud breaking from the bottom of the original woody grow (what was part of the plant when we bought it).
I'm extremely worried that the cold will do the same so I'm hoping wrapping it in burlap over the winter will help it survive the cold winter.
Hardy Zone 4a, and its a Marquette grape vine.
Not 10 feet away, thw Frontenac Gris vine is totally thriving, with some amazing second year growth.

This is just superb, I have been researching "how to plant grapes vines" for a while now, and I think this has helped. Have you heard people talk about - Qeyliana Henvery Domination - (should be on google have a look )?
It is a great exclusive guide for discovering how to become a pro grape grower without the hard work. Ive heard some amazing things about it and my brother in law got excellent results with it.

With indoor vine, i have allowed 2 main shoots off the trunk, for the base. Is this recommended?

Curious, do the upper branches on the 4 arm system fruit the same as each other? equal size and growth of fruit, please?

I had no idea that I could grow grapes in Maine. I'm very interested in this because I think that I can create a renewable and organic water filtration system that collects rainwater and filters the water using grape vines. Such filtration does have the same limits as carbon filters, in other words they are effective against everything other than viruses so the best bet is still to bowl after to be 100% sure. In case you don't know, not one of the major drinking water manufacturers even bother with that last step because 3% of all consumers worldwide is an acceptable casualty. So realistically, examining the actual competition, straining through a vine is probably safer than what you get from Dasani or Aquafina or any other major brand. This simple education could save millions of lives worldwide so let it grow, let it get into your mind and then do something about it.

Hello, this was a very helpful video but I have a question about pruning in late April. We received our vine from a nursery with two stems. Now, they have starting budding. Is it too late to snip the weakest one and start training the stronger one?

I planted my grape stem in february and although it's growing, it's vining more laterally than vertically. Am i suppose to train the vine up or does the stem just need to grow more vertically?

Hi I have a question about doing cuttings .
I also live in a cold part of the country, (North Dakota) and as I write this its mid August and I have signed up to help a local person harvest their grapes ( in late September)in exchange for some cuttings.
However I doint know what I should do to the cuttings when I get them home?

Hi.. Could you please explain how would you get 4 arms. Do you cut off the top part when it reaches the top wire and then 4 shoots sprout at the top ?

Why is the kniffen or umbrella pruning system prefered over the spur and cordon pruning in Maine?

Japanese Beetles love them, unfortunately, but they make great lure-based bag traps that work well.

In the winter, they can sometimes cut through a younger grapevine in an attempt to get at bud ends. They sometimes do that with smaller caliper blueberry bushes too. That is why I call them long eared beavers. I wrap my grapevines in hardware cloth for several years until the trunk is larger. They don't bother the older grapevine trunks.
