Dear James Cleverly, if the voters are telling you that they are massively unimpressed with Labour, are they also telling you how much more unimpressed they are with the Conservatives?
He’d need to sack over 1/4 million civil servants earning £20k a year to make a £6b saving in that waffle. That’s about 1 in every 250 people in UK losing their job.
The tories love sacking civil servants because of their small state= low taxes mindset. They failed to realise that these civil servants do stuff, and sacking them is often a false economy. The asylum backlog wasn't a £6 million per day problem under Labour because claims were dealt with in a timely way.
They keep repeating that claim of “the best readers in the western world”, and that’s also a lie. The PISA 2022 report (page 6) shows the UK is performing “above the OECD average” in reading, with a score of 494. But this is still behind Ireland, Estonia, Canada, the US, New Zealand and Australia, if you go by “Western”. But also behind Singapore, Japan, Korea, Taiwan and Macau and Hong Kong. That’s a rank of #13. Incidentally, the score of 494 is 10 points lower than the previous report of 2018. Can someone please bring this up to them? This is another lie they’re getting away with.
"Labour will be able to do whatever they want to our country" - it's disgusting how the the Tories really seem to believe that it is only they who should be able to do whatever they want with "their" country, and as if Labour are not actually british and not actually just as valid as leaders for this country. Them and Us. Division is the only card They play
14 years later and Cleverly drags up the "there is no money left" note which wasn't true and was just used as one of the excuses for the austerity of those 14 years which was just an excuse to decimate public services and the country.
Nevermind being in power for the past 14 years- they have been in power for 40 of the last 53 years. If they can't get it right after half a century they never will.
How about getting rid of Leasehold in England & Wales. Have been waiting for years. It will win my vote & many more votes. Flat buyers regret buying Leasehold properties due to the extra stress it comes with it. Get rid of leasehold & replace it with Commonhold.
We are getting absolutely fed-up with these lying Tories who ignore their performance in the last 14 years and are now asking us to believe they are the path to a better future. The actual failures they are trying to address are to deal with their own failures NOT Labour. Their record is appalling. The youth of the future will judge Sunak, Cleverly and his cronies for their complete and utter failure and with any luck, the Conservative Party will become irrelevant as a political force for at least a generation!
It’s more like the wheels have come off, the car is on fire and the driver died on impact that petty much sums up the Tories campaign so far and it’s only getting worse
Cleverly is insane. Yes Labour borrowed but can someone please point out how much lower borrowing was under Labour than the Tories? Also, the idea that the Tories are trying to get everyone to do more unpaid work is right up there with food banks are "uplifting". Squeeze the population for more work whilst paying them nothing in a cost of living crisis. Awesome.

Imagine what Israel did when we couldn't see their crimes on our phones. Voting reform is like breaking up with tory, but you give her another chance because she said she was reformed.
A word on the creative industries - following Emily's enthusiasm to RS rhetoric on this matter. When the pandemic hit many of us had micro ltd companies, and got zero support. We kept eeking a living because furlough happened to everyone else. What we did get was targeted ads suggesting we retrain as a 'coder' or similar. The film industry is a £6bn service industry which funnels money out to largely US financiers, thanks to 14 years and more of poor tax incentives and low government support or interest in supporting British talent. The industry hasn't recovered from combination of pandemic and US strikes.... and I can confidently predict that most of us will be making a point of thanking the incumbent government, at the ballot box, personally.
Cleverling kept saying Labour borrowed, ignoring that the Tories increased that borrowing by 3 times BEFORE covid, strange he thinks Tory borrowing doesn't count?
The country have a bright future because his party will not lead us. The market is not collapsing simply because they don't believe the uncosted tax cuts and spending plans will become reality. The stuff is crazier than Truss's.
"that note, that there's no money left, was more true than people realise. Then there was COVID". I guess 2010 to 2020 didnt exist then and the Tories didn't run the public sevices into the ground.
