I played every Kid Icarus game in 2023! This one was a lot tougher than I expected and I was pretty surprised by the end. And who would've thought that Kid Icarus would get a massive shout out in the new Super Mario Bros. movie? Crazy, right?

I would too. 3ds emulators aren't very good currently so playing on orginal hardware is the only reliable way to play this game.

Kid icarus uprising was an amazing game, but it already did what it did. We don't need a remake, we need a sequel that builds upon the foundation laid out by uprising!
I'm one of those weirdos who didn't find an issue with the control scheme of Uprising in the slightest, however if the controls are that big of an issue to you but you still want to experience the rest of what the story has to offer, Chuggaaconroy has a REALLY well made let's play on the game. I'd highly recommend checking that out.

3DS version of KI tweaked the controls and momentum. So no more awkward jumps and traversal.
It is the definitive version of the game.
For me, Kid Icarus went from two alright games to one of my favorite games of all time. I never had a problem with the controls of Uprising, but I get why it's hard for many people
Please please PLEASE try the second control scheme for Uprising. It may sound odd when you read the description, but if you cant get behind the main controls, at least give it a shot.
If youve ever played a shooter on the psp, like Syphon Filter, youll be right at home.

Uprising is one of my all time favourite games.
I strangely never had an issue with the controls, but one can hope for a sequel or remaster for the switch with better controls.

I appreciate that when a game doesn't click with you, you don't act like it's objectively bad like some other people on this website, just that it wasn't your cup of tea, but you still try to see what others might like about it. I wish more people understood that it's possible to be critical of something in a more positive way, lol.

The controls are the main reason why Kid Icarus Uprising SHOULD be remastered on the Switch

I loved the Original Kid Icarus (NES) on the 3DS. The gameplay is just so rewarding when you get better at it. It reminds me of those games that you have to keep playing to get better at similar to hades. Extremely rewarding.

I agree the controls were strange, but I’m one of the several people who adapted. I’d suggest buying a comfortable grip to allow for longer gaming sessions.

People who love kid Icarus uprising, don’t love it for the controls, they did the best they could considering it was a 3ds title. No they love it for the dialogue.
This game on a console would be amazing. 90% of the complaints people have with this game are about the controls which get resolved by having a second joystick and more buttons. Upscale the visuals, add a few quality of life changes, maybe add a few new items and gamemodes and bam, you have a hit!
I think it's a no-brainer and I hope Nintendo capitalizes on it someday!

Just a heads up: WarioWare Gold has a Kid Icarus microgame that’s basically a recreation of the final boss.
Pit DOES control better in the 3DS version, you can even hold the jump button to fall slower.

The only thing 'Uprising' about the 3DS' Kid Icarus was my blood pressure from the anger I felt when seeing what they did the long awaited 3quel.

Agreed with the controls. I actually ended up using the secondary control scheme offered. Where aiming the reticle is used with he four face buttons on the right. It feels a little more natural. Since your right hand is already going to be hovering over the R button I used my thumb to direct the reticle. It felt way better on ground. Though it did take some getting used too. Did you try this control scheme?

I'm going to defend the control scheme for uprising, although I think it was possible to make it work with dual analog controls, only someone who spent several hours on the multiplayer and doing missions on intensity 9.0 will understand how absolutely necessary are the speed and precision you get from the touch screen controls
Let's say they hypothetically ported it to Switch, do you think those missions would be possible with 2 analog sticks?

I personally never had any issues with Uprising's controls, but I guess I kinda get it? Still, the touchscreen controls give you a level of speed and precision that you can't get with standard dual analog, and even gyro aiming could be a struggle with constantly having to re-center the pointer in such a fast paced game. So I'm not sure if you can actually port the game without some major overhaul.

Have you tried to play KI Uprising with the 3DS circle pad as the reticle and using the ABX&Y buttons to move that's how I played the game.

As a Kid Icarus fan for 6-7 years nothing brings me more joy than to see another newbie in the fandom, get comfy because *We are still awaiting for a Kid Icarus sequel or port* but hey 25 years is almost up as we are nearing 2037 so we are almost there so hope Pit and the gang doesn't keep us waiting any longer! (Also Thanks Nintendo for including Kid Icarus in the Super Mario Bros movie as an obvious easter egg, that made my year)

Kid Icarus ist probably my second Most played Game with 98% competition and all stages on 7.0 or higher. I Loved the Coop mode and played it so much with my little Brother which May Play a huge nostalgica faktor. I personally Loved the controls but that may be also the case because I grew up with the Legend of Zelda phantom Hourglas and Spirit Tracks which use the Touchscreen for 90% of the Game play. But If someone isn't used to this kind of Control I can get behind why the controls could be awful for some.

I love UpRising, but the controls are pretty... questionable. Sakurai in an interview said that "It was the players who didn't understand the controls" to justify this confusing control scheme.
Kid Icarus is a game series with a lot of potential. Funny characters, great music and some nice and interesting ideas. But the games theirself feels a bit hasty and poorly executed. If they gave Pit'n'pals a bit more love and structure, I'm sure this series could be renewed to greatness. Like a kind of action filled Zelda type of game, with more focus on action skills than solving puzzles. But still a world where you could buy goods by credit cards, getting transformed to an aubergine and cured by a hospital. It got something nice in it's soul, this series, but it needs a bit more love from the game makers.
I wouldn't mind Uprising getting a Switch port. In fact, Uprising sounds like it has similar issues shooters on the PSP had with the lack of a second stick.

I just found you from your video of playing through the Jak games. love what you’re doin, playing through these while franchises! If you ever get a chance you should try out Ratchet and Clank, and if you’re interested enough you should do a video of playing all the games. To be fair there are a lotta ratchet and clank games 😅 but they’re SO much fun! If you liked Jak and Daxter at all, I think you’d be into Ratchet and Clank
*My advice* play this only if you also get the stand with the game, or make a costom stand. (3d print or wood or something if you can)
The controlls are really fine, you just need to set it up to make it work, but trust me, once it works it works.
And at some point, your leg will do just fine. Trust me.

The reason smash and uprising are so similar is that it was developed by the developer of smash masahiro sakurai because he was such a big fan of the franchise
You should play this as a shooter when on the ground. Let the corners of the 3ds bottom rest in the palm of your hands and use your dumb and index finger to control with the stylus.

Kid icarus uprising might be my favorite game on the 3ds hands down and quite high on my list of favorite games of all time to. I got this game when it just came out and 3ds at the exact same time and became one of my favorites. Saying that the controllers god dam. Their is no way to save that aspect of the game and it blows so hard. Even emulating it is just so fundamentally annoying and even worse then just playing it on the 3ds itself. But hopefully with the recent leaks and bits of info we have like Masahiro Sakurai asking in one of his videos if people would like to see the game on home console, The recent job opening at Nintendo about recreating a action game, and a inconsistent leaker talking about a kid icarus remake months before the other two bits of news on top of the recent mario movie having a bit of mario playing kid icuras the og game (which is kind of weird to see that being shown off instead of something like zelda or metroid which are way more popular then some IP that barely anyone knows). With these small bits im super hopeful to see a popular remaster and revision of the game so more people could see how good it was and hopefully get kid icuras a staple IP at Nintendo like the rest of their line up!

If the design of KiU strikes you as simular to smash, it's because the maker of smash, Sakurai, usually designs his games with the previous game he made in mind.
If you look at the basic main menue for every game he made, you can clearly make out how his design evolved. Going from smash, to kirby air ride back to smash, KiU and back to smash 3DS. And prolly somethings i missed.
Do the sly cooper series. Best from the ps2 mascot days and really got me into stealth/climbing/ ninja gameplay.

Man, you need to go back and make yourself finish the game. If I could do it when I was 12, you can get used to the controls. It’s a 10/10. Best 3ds title.

I personally didn't mind the control scheme when I played. Perhaps its just more comforatble on the 2ds. BUT I will say that a stylis allows for way faster aiming than a joystick does. Joysticks absolutely suck at aiming

This game has skyrocketed in price on eBay for whatever reason. I downloaded it before the eShop went down, but yeah the controls are what hold this game back. It’s good overall, but the controls hurt.
I truly hope there's a remastered release someday with better controls, but also so it's widely available at a decent price

Try going into the options and checking out the different ways to customize the controls. If that’s not enough then (and I’m not trying to be mean here) you unironically just need to get good. It’s really worth it to see the rest of the game.
While I understand your sentiment, I believe that a overcoming a genuinely uncomfortable control scheme and "getting gud" are two different concepts entirely. I could complete the game with the controls that are built-in, but it actively hurts the experience for me. I would rather wait, possibly in vain, for a better version of the game to release or just not ever finish it. It's a great game, I just don't want to deal with the controls anymore 😅
@@Niosai That's a shame. I never really had a problem with the controls (never even used the stand) so I just have a hard time seeing where people are coming from when they complain about it. As for a possible port or remake, you might be in luck because Sakurai teased one at the end of one of his youtube videos recently.

Also, movement in KIU, I've seen a lot of people complaining exactly like you did, but honestly, I beaten this on citra mobile, I had to use a digital circle pad and let me tell ya, it's not comfortable, if I can do that, anyone can beat KIU, also you can customize how fast the camera controls, how fast it goes left to right and up to down, if it's inverted, how fast it stops after you drag it, and you can use the face buttons as a camera also, so there is a lot of options to try and find your best solution, just don't sleep on this game, best game on the system

Ir the video, the background footage was pretty spoilery, esp pandora and dark pit moment, and not in a if you haven't played the game you won't get it way.
I tried to keep it limited to earlier missions 😅 of course, Dark Pit would've been spoiled by the Smash Bros. Section anyways

I didn't even have a problem with the controls it's the level and enemy designs which are truly bad. Fans of the game definitely haven't played very many rail shooters. They need to go play Space Harrier, Time Crisis, House of the Dead, Panzer Dragoon, or even some SNES light gun games. A proper frame of reference of what's good is needed to know that something is bad. To sum it up for anyone who doesn't like the genre enough to dive into it Kid Icarus' levels just don't have very much going on. The action/third person shooter levels are much the same. Enemy layout doesn't challenge the player. Having a lottery system for unlockables rather than a skill based one only served to waste time, the difficulty slider is a terrible idea and it's no wonder it hasn't caught on as only the hardest, the easiest, and the default difficulties really matter, and most normal human beings will despise the cringe worthy writing. It's one of those games people played as young children that they look back on with rose-coloured glasses for a simpler time.
