Darn right!
Golden comment
The best. I love this.
"400 tonnes is a shit tone of elephants and pools and two story buildings and shit"
You know it was a fake as there was no remote safety string operating the press.
also the CRT that poofed into thin air was a dead giveaway lol
@@TVsBen CRT monitors and old TVs have vacuum inside, so when you break them they implode which looks like poofing into thin air. I broke one with a sledgehammer when I was a kid, it's pretty cool.
I knew it was fake when that ball rolled out and stopped right on time and level for its eyes to pop out.
4000 ton is like lots of elephants, swimming pools, 2 storey buildings and stuff.
So vague and yet so accurate. I love it.
He knows how to get the point across. 😂
@@zlcoolboy And that's why I loved his comment. He got his point across in a clear and humerous way.
yea he had to dumb down the tons to something an american would understand....sad
@@rottenpoet6675 Limey detected
@@rottenpoet6675 it astounds me that people in other countries consider Americans so unintelligent. Especially when it comes to measurements and units of measurement that we don't use in our standardized systems. I'm from Alabama (that's the deep south). I am a simple carpenter. Still, I'm willing to bet legitimate money I'd best you in any test of wits. Period.
I have no doubt that they watched your videos.
There's no reason to suspect that "paper exploding in a hydraulic press" was common knowledge before TH-cam and your videos.
yeah like, im pretty sure lauri is the one who discovered that, and all the press channels that are out there followed suit
@nox_luna it seemed to be what happened. But to know for sure would require some mild research . It would be interesting to know.
I was thinking the same thing. That whole concept came from this channel. That is pretty cool.
Yep, back when he released the very early video about folding paper more than 7 times and it suddenly popped, it prompted a lot of interest regarding the physics. It just wasn't a thing people knew about.
It's kinda like how movies improved in their depictions of large explosions in cities thanks mostly to all the videos of the Tianjin and Beirut explosions.
Just noticed the sticker on the controls. "Not to be operated by fuckwits" 🤣
A solid crossover with that wacky AvE
If you don't watch AvE.. you're just wrong.
@@mattfleming86Ah, I see you’re a man of culture as well
Guess too many fuckwits crushed their hands lol
That should be applied to so many things.
I really appreciate how even though the ad clearly isn't realistic, you still point out and explain how it's unrealistic for a reason (to look cool) rather than just trashing it for being "wrong"
Easy to tell the Apple ad was fake: No jump scare screams followed by excited laughing and giggling. 😂
They also need another pressing with clay figures which are "really dangerous and could attack at any time, so we must deal with [them]" (I still miss that ending).
And here we go....
Also missing was "Vat da faak?!?", but I understand why.
Easy to tell its fake: its an Apple ad..

@@noodlelynoodle.DESY (Deutsches Elektron Synchrotron - a research center in Hamburg Germany) has a 1giga ton Press for high pressure physics, but these things only compress very very small areas...
Give me a long enough lever and a cylinder of small enough surface area and I will crush the earth.
You just know that the CG artists downloaded a bunch of your videos and were framing through them again and again for reference.
And I bet they didn't even use an iPad to make this commercial. So how is the message of the ad even accurate?
I'm fairly certain that the destruction itself is real though with some CGI smoke and sparks. It's mostly just clever editing to remove items (like the tables and boxes) that would stop the downwards movement. The explosions are also seemingly practical with small well timed charges. And I'm thinking they didn't use a press, but just lowered a heavy ass weight on top of the items with a hidden crane, and or used a smaller press and made it look bigger with CGI in the close up shots. The huge press like appearance at the start and end is most likely CGI.
@@sugarmaticBet they also had a fake behind-the-scenes making-of video lined up where they'll emphasize the practical effects and claim "no CGI" just like in all the marketing of Hollywood blockbuster VFX-heavy movies
@bornach it would be more impressive if they come out with a behind the scenes showing that it was all shot on iPhone and rendered on iPad.
This is just one of multiple reasons why this will forever be my favorite TH-cam channel. Nobody else does it quite like HPC. There's plenty of imitations, but nothing holds a candle to the OG press channel.
And no one else has nuclear bunker for hydraulic press :D
By far the most subscribed channel I regularly watch. Unique 👍
@@samuelgarrod8327Yeah, I just noticed they’re at 9.4 million subscribers!
As a piano technician I would love to see you crushing a piano. (I will sponsor the Piano!) by the way - they removed the steel plate of the piano in the ad.
I want to see the press compromise the metal frame and watch the strings fold it from the tension 😈
It is CGI. All of it.
he also needs a press wide enough to do this
@@nox_luna just get a mini piano
Those piano frames are stout.
iPad not coming out bent is what gave it away. 😊
You should please, please add back the bar on the side showing us how much weight your using to crush! I really enjoy knowing it took 200 ton to make the books explode it also gives the crushed more flair and understanding because some of the crushed look small but have a ton of weight behind it!
HPC - " the press of the apple ad is a problem, and we will have to deal with it "
So let's crush the ad.
Market leading hydraulic press experts!
I love the fact he took this personally
HPC fulfilling my Mythbusters hunger 10 years after the show ended.
11:52 "Crushing stuff with hoodraulic press captures some eyeballs..." Lauri, you have a vivid and colourful way of expressing yourself which is part of why we all love you. You have definitely 'captured _my_ eyeballs' and, as far as I'm concerned, you can keep them.
Lauri takes it to the next level by adding some humor, education, and genuine curiosity. He's also developed a very particular set of skills ;)
When I saw the commercial this channel was the first thing that popped in my head. So glad to see you covering this. Thank you.
The most unrealistic part of that ad, was that they thought I'd ever give them my money.
🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Did they personally send you a message asking if you'd give them money because of the ad or what does this even mean?
@@TunaIRL you didn't see? At the end of the ad there's fine text at the bottom of the screen right after the disclaimers that says "peter5.056 give us your money"
I thought it was a bold marketing strategy tbh, let's see how it plays out for them
@@nonpondo_ That's crazy tbh. It's truly the next gen of targeted advertising.
Lol 😂😂😂
I like how you busted the ad the way you did Lauri. I like how honest you are with what you crush.
The multiple paper explosion when pressing was the greatest!
Paper never fails to deliver and always seems to amaze with something new.
"How many ton press is this" is the best fucking borked english and i love it so much
2:52 It's a shitload of elephant shit, too.
"Elephants and swimming pools and two-storey buildings" Ah, the American system of units ..
Nothing pisses me off more than TV units of measurement.
4000 tons is about the size of a small WW2 US Destroyer.
@@IntegerOfDoomthey are used as a comparison so the size/weight can be pictured by those who have no unit of reference.
Wait until you find out there are places on the internet where a banana is a unit of measurement for scale.
@@Tuck-Shop I was going to say the same thing. Australian machinist comes to mind.
They could say "a thousand African elephants", but then, people would need to know intuitively what "thousand" is...
You know I was wondering if you were going to post a video about that commercial! 😁
I think this was quite interesting one to do, hope you like it!
I think everyone after seeing this ad are waiting for you to crush Ipad.
Same!
@@HydraulicPressChannel It was interesting. Almost Beyond the Press, but still the press. You explain things well, btw. I guess knowing what you're talking about helps.
That probably got their ideas fron this channel.
I believe the success of your channel must have inspired some marketing guru there
Täähän oli hauska! Lisää vaa debunkkaus-videoita, jos ideoita tulee. Toivottavasti joku Applella katsoo tätä ja tahtoo yhteistyötä! :D
Lol.. I tried to spread the word about your channel once I heard everyone had problems with this ad. I was like, "What?" Crushing things is therapeutic 😂
not just crushing things, but smashing things and hitting things, its cathartic
'Everyone'? Get some rest pal.
@@samuelgarrod8327🤣🤣
Crushing things indiscriminantly I'm cool with; I enjoy this channel.
Crushing mediums of artistic expression to say "oh you can just do all of that synthetically" gives a sense that they're disparaging those that rely on older tools, and that's where I have the problem.
It's not the content itself, it's the message they're trying to send
@Jetliner I agree, and also WHO is sending the message. The idea of "all of these methods of expression are compressed into the new ipad, with it you can do it all" is a fine idea for an advert, and yes, watching things be crushed is fun.
The advert only read as sinister to me specifically because Apple as a company does crush art and only cares about progress: the newest disposable ipad.
There was that story about imusic where someone had a special demo version of a song and then after an update that file on their computer had been replaced with the version on the Apple store. Luckily they had a copy on an external device, but if not, that variety would have been overwritten with corporate uniformity.
Apple: "People are going to love this ad!"
Hydraulic Press Channel: "We must deal with it."
Who knew 12 corks could withstand 1 TON OF PRESSURE
Sounds like new Jack stands
that's 83 kg by cork.
I think most people understand that a cork is going to withstand the weight of 1 adult human male.
I look at it as a compliment that your channel is so popular they decided to imitate you when in reality they should've just hired you.
This. Apple attempted a pale imitation of Lauri's work - HPC Channel should sue!
May the algorithm bless this excellent video. Great work as always, Lauri.
I suspect the whole idea for the ad came from the popularity of your channel!
Definitely
The CGI animators for the ad likely used HPC footage as reference.
Elephants, swimming pools, 2 story buildings... all acceptable measurements here in the US. We'll use anything but an actual measurement ;P
😂
I like the Rhode Island unit... (which is coincidentally the same size as 1 Wales 🏴, a unit of measurement here)
We now have a conversion rate 👍
Lol..... It was truly helpful
Especially when measuring the size of near-Earth asteroids. It’s like a meme at this point.
@-Jethro- that's exactly the reference lol
Ask Apple to send you a new ipad to crush in your 300T Profi Press!! Yaaayyyyyyyyy!!! (I'll bet they won't- so dare them, infact Double Dare them!!!)😂
4:58 That laptop mount is gorgeous! Top Tier! Love it and much love to you both for what you do!
This is the content I subscribed for. The Hydraulic press experts.
Anyone who follows knows that ordinary paper is extremely deadly and explosive.
I liked the science/engineering explanation of how it works, force, pressure, how it distributes, etc. Also, three cheers for biomaterials - those corks took 1 ton and returned to their original shape.
I wish they had have called you for their ad. Realistic and fun!
You guys were the first ones I thought of when I saw this ad - glad you made this! They really should have consulted you before making it!
I had hoped you'd break down the ad...so many people were upset because of "crushing human innovation into a soulless device" reasons, but the huge size of the tools had me thinking there were technical reasons to be critical of the ad. I suspect most HPC fans enjoyed it despite the physics inaccuracies, and as a bonus we got this video in response.
Pretty good.
I like this video format. are you gonna start posting more extra stuff on beyond the press? or on this channel if you want to.
lets see how much people like to watch this kind of stuff but at least this was fun to make and we should have now more time also when the bunker is finally done
Obviously Apple Ad was hugely inspired with this channel. Especially the sticker pile and clay figure.
Are you sure you did it correctly? You didn't end up with an Ipad in the end!!!
love the vid
No ipad crushing, damn you Lauri 😂
Yes I too wanted to see some crushed crapple
Offer a company to make an ad for them! Maybe in tandem with Lee Hardcastle. He loves to play with clay, and he actually made an ad before.
3:05 This picture is hell to any musician who has struggled to afford their instrument.
I don't watch ads so I'm just oblivious of this whole debacle.
It's not like Apple ever is honest. "Yeah, we're environmentally friendly" they say, while dumping tons of hardware in the ocean because they refuse to offer repair or replacement parts.
Not to mention not use USB-C for non-European nations...
I really liked Atrioc's idea of just reversing the ad and playing it backwards. So an ipad turns into all the instruments and stuff. He played it that way and it actually was pretty touching. Not that I hated the original, I just thought the reversed video was great.
I love TH-cam.
"You know that advertisement you have never seen, and will never see? I have made a debunking video that might be up your alley!"
“It’s like a shit-ton of elephants” is my new phrase for something heavy
Love your videos! As a Fin man 'not using iPads that much' you could have staged a Suomi punch line and have a NOKIA Communicator appear under the opening press. Please do a version 2 of your video :-)))
I miss my old Nokia mobile phone… =(
It survived sooo many drops.
“HYDRAULIC PRESS CHANNEL!”
The original hydraulic press!!!
Can you crush an iPad pro? Make that thing even thinner! :^)
8:56 I luv the Profi pointer...it reminds everyone safety first!
I love this channel, awesome to watch you crush stuff, but it's fun to watch you blow stuff up too.. you do all sorts of cool stuff on here and all of it is interesting as all get out!
Real. Facts.
You make learning so much fun! Thanks for what you do, it seems to satisfy an odd urge to smash stuff😂
You could see the apple press is basically thin sheet metal just from looking at the top ,they probably put fake props over a car crusher when shooting the closeups
I think it's all miniatures.
Apple should have just done the ad in reverse. "Open the new iPad, and all these amazing tools for creativity come out!"
With your bulletproof door, I'm concerned about pinch points for when the door closes and opens. I would recommend putting something on the edges to prevent or reduce the chances of pinching fingers.
This!
I love how you say surprised. "Souprised, sooprise". Btw, amazing fact checking
I love these videos. Just enough detail so you understand and aren't overwhelmed.
A crushing review of an ad.
More people should be doing this.
The intern who does the cleanup is the unsung hero
I dont understand why i found this video as entertaining as i did, but i did. Well done! Keep on pressing!
What was really missing from that ad is the earthquake.
I miss Hannas jump scare screams followed by excited laughing and giggling in the video.
HPC - Often imitated but never equalled 💪
Thanks for making this video and for pausing your fun moments to show us how this stuff really works. Love the balance between the fun and games and actual education/inspiration.
It’s realistic in its depiction of human ingenuity getting crushed by a company
I have a friend that loves Pentti Saarikoski. He will be sad to see you crushing Saarikoski's book but i think you are crushing a biography, so it might be ok 😄
Finland always seems so delightful.
I'm not soorprised that you decided to review that apple commercial.
This was a really well done video investigation, nice job.
As a retired heavy equipment mechanic experienced in mining equipment my first observation was they’re just highlighting the enormity not the reality. Force applied is equal in both directions in bidirectional applications which is to say the thing pushing experiences equal the force as the object being pushed against. They pretty much just showed the aspect of the pushed side of the application not the pushing side that anchor point needs to sustain all that force being applied and that ceiling/roof must be pretty substantial. 🙄
The juxtaposition of friendly Fins with the aggressive Danger sticker on the press is truly a delight.
The fact he still has this much joy all these years later
I've worked near those massive presses. They are super loud and shake the floor around them. The craziest thing is seeing the mold removed then some maniac climb between it to clean it.
I bet they got some of the ideas of what each item would do under a real press from your channel and then made up the rest.
I really enjoy your channel and all the different ways you use the press including water pressure.
Not just entertaining but also with some great information and examples, like the watches depth rating testing.
A great video as always. 😎👍
This was properly informative.
One of my favorite early HPC videos was the one where you crushed the camera lens! I finally get to see one crushed horizontally! 😁👍
Thanks for the video!!
Was this featured in that Apple Event that queued itself on my videofeed for a day?
Glad I didn't stick around for that and got the gist of it here.
Yep. Heard it was also aired for TV commercials for a day also.

I got PTSD after noticing that Among Us trash can behind you when you were explaining the structure
The whole ad was CGI, like most of TV series and movies nowdays
Thanks captain
Damn disappointing
Great vid thanks! And yeah that paper exploding was a cool surprise
I like the spoof version they did on the Colbert show. They put some actual artists under the crusher and after some real nasty exploding blood at the end, the artists were all trapped in the iPad.
This video better blow up
Here before viral video!❤
We know by now that a trumpet could not twist like that and still stand upright, for one.
Cgi is tricky times 10 million these days.
The ad was fake, but still practically shot for most of the shots with very minimal cgi only used to clean up shots
@@LandHooman The industry nomenclature is compositing. It was a beautiful composite shot.
i guess

@@MikkoRantalainen lmao yes I love that series I've watched it all, just saying that the objects being crushed were very likely not simulated using VFX

The idea of that ad isn’t bad, but as a traditional media and digital visual artist the fact they had what appeared to be buckets of house paint to represent iPad replacing traditional media gets a huge eye roll.
They also had cans of spray paint, and there’s not a single graffiti artist (or furniture restorer or studio spray paint artist) who could replicate anything they do digitally, or would likely have the desire to.
I guess we’re all just watching that ad from the perspective of our own lived experience. I’ve never operated a hydraulic press, I really enjoyed the breakdown in this video.
But I do draw and paint and the lack of even an attempt at showing plausible supplies made me a bit grumpy.
Very interesting, thanks for sharing your knowledge.
