    We boondocked Padre Island in 1968 when we were stationed at Laredo Air Force Base. We had fun in the tiny camper we’d rented on base. We fished, swam, and got sunburned like the twenty something kids we were. Happy times!

      That sounds like a wonderful time, Bill! We too boondocked on Padre Island back in 2019, but only after we waited in a campground for a few days until a cold front came through: th-cam.com/video/SqY-UIfQnRQ/w-d-xo.html

    I really want to get to some beach camping someday. Isolated and listen to the waves for a few days. Then a car wash to hit the under carriage 😂. Looks great 👍🏼

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      But you're already salty! 😁 We had a really strong onshore wind for a couple of days, blowing salt spray and sand all over everything. I hosed down the RV twice while we were there, and at one point I took the truck to a self-service car wash because I couldn't even see out the windows anymore. It took weeks to get all the sand out. And when we arrived at our next destination I happily paid the RV park the $5 fee to thoroughly hand wash the entire RV.

    I am glad they are doing something about that campground. Here in florida after hurricane irma they never (the state) bothered to repair and rebuild my most beloved florida keys campground called long key state park. It was destroyed... ok great they trucked in sand in 2017... left piles of it and it has been sitting long and forgotten now for 5 years.. piles and all. Bahia Honda state park sustained some damage so they actually spend effort fixing that over 2 years.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a shame, MTL. I don't personally recall Long Key SP from our time living in FL, but I definitely remember Bahia Honda vividly. It's a gorgeous spot.

    What a great spot next to the beach. That storm really did some damage to the dunes. The aerial footage really shows the damage. Thanks Don

      @GrandAdventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You're most welcome, Don. We always scout out a place via satellite first, whether boondocking or a campground -- for example, to see where the spot is and how closely together they pack folks. So we were very surprised to find the dunes missing upon our arrival.

    • @GrandAdventure

      Next best thing to boondocking on the beach. On windy days, though, it has the same downsides as boondocking on the beach: blowing salt spray and blowing sand. At least with hookups you've got the ability to hose everything off.

    I saw a RV trailer today that had a string of solar panels that ran from Stem to Stern. They were mounted on a framework that suspend them just above the air conditioning units and had a three position triangle base (left, right, and straight up). I estimate there were about ten or twelve full size panels, and about 15 to 20 kilowatts of output power. As I followed along behind it I thought if those air conditioning units were mini splits they could double or triple the panels on the roof. My 4 ton air conditioner on my house needs about thirty kilowatts to run it and the house lights through the night. My thirty six solar panels average about 50 kilowatts per day.
    I just think mobile trailers like yours could easily produce enough electricity to charge enough batteries so as to power your Air conditioning through the night with plenty leftover to shower and make breakfast in the morning. Even if your keeled the existing air conditioning and left out panels where the air conditioning units were.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      No doubt we could, Delton -- both with a huge solar array, and a massive battery bank. Such an investment, though, is unfortunately way above my pay grade.

    You must be royalty. 😉
    Port Freeport was where I disembarked off my last ship of my sailing career. I was delayed because of a hurricane that hit Freeport and we had to run south to avoid most of it and then we were delayed until they got the mess cleaned up so we could enter the port. This was back in 2009.

      Glad that we could bring you back there! Brazos Bend is very popular, especially when you visit on a Saturday like we did. I was near Surfside last spring. I stayed at the Quintana Beach County Park, just south west of Surfside. It was very reasonably priced with full hookups and laundry. No beach views, but very short walk over the dunes to get to the beach. I still have not been to Brazos Bend State Park yet. Seems like every time I can go, it is closed due to flooding or other weather-related event. I enjoyed your video of the park, especially the Common Gallinules swimming in the water.

As we are heading into summer it is so helpful for planning to see the effects of the weather. Sometimes it is difficult to judge by max and min temperature alone. I noticed that you didn't take your yak out this time. Any particular reason? I realize that any kind of surf doesn't work well with kayaks. But the inlets and bayous should have been ok.

      @@GrandAdventure Wow... at least that was a mostly lost year anyway. Still, the reconstruction costs money. I suspect they simply rented a Bobcat and did most of the work themselves.
      But redoing the landscaping does get expensive. Bringing in new palm trees and nursing them until they take root, is usually a two year job.
      You gotta have landscape to give some relief to your location. The Gulf seashore it's beautiful but in it's natural state can be rather flat and desolate. Some people like that wilderness look, but It tends to grow old fairly quickly.
      Did Galveston Island and Bolivar Peninsula get hit hard again? They have much more invested than the Freeport beaches area.

    Marc your drone videos are excellent. What drone are you using?

      Thanks Joseph! This one was filmed with a DJI Mini 2, although most of our drone footage is shot with a DJI Mavic Pro.

      Thank you William! We know Tom & Stacie, they're wonderful people, and actually tried to connect with them again this year the way that we did back in 2019 th-cam.com/video/SqY-UIfQnRQ/w-d-xo.html . Unfortunately, though, they were still out of state while we were in Surfside. Enjoy Vegas!

      We honestly don't recall the number. Maybe 17? We can't find a sitemap on their website.

      Dwane, we could've boondocked for free right on the county beach that we showed in this video, just beyond the Surfside town line.

    I really enjoy your videos you really do go to beautiful and interesting places. However you really should find out the proper pronunciation of the places you are and as a Texan I notice. Folks not from around here may not know how to pronounce Brazos or from your Fredericksburg video, Luckenbach. Keep the great videos coming 🥰

      We try, Pam and we will often get it wrong. I hear the same thing with an out-of-starter visiting our native Utah, but we don't fault them for that. Every place in this country has peculiar local pronunciations.

    Great video but pronunciation of things need help🤣

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Andrea. Local pronunciations can be tough, and we looked up local pronunciations for this video in particular, namely how locals say "Brazos". Still, when we're not from somewhere we'll also get them wrong, just like folks visiting our home area and trying to pronounce places like "Tooele" and "Hurricane."

      Wish we could have met. Interesting videos. We live in Lake Jackson! And it is Brazos with a short “a” like in “at”. 🤣✅

      @@barbarapatzke7605 We actually looked it up prior to editing the video, and went with this list: texasalmanac.com/sites/default/files/images/PronunWeb18.pdf
      Apparently we still managed to screw it up. 😁
