    This has to have been a special visit for you. I know how passionate you are about historic places. One thing that stood out to me was Germans basically habitually setting their presence in stone, literally. Perhaps it is a cultural thing, considering old Germany had castles and what not. By contrast hearing how much younger home of former president came to disrepair you can see why German structures are still standing strong.
    I never knew how many germans settled in USA until I started driving about the country finding entire communities of people.... and settlements all with unique stone architecture. Imagine crossing the pond.. traveling on a wagon to the great out west and literally building something permanent. How cool.

      That's a terrific analysis, MTL! From the Amish in PA to the Hill Country of TX you can see their hand in so many places. We found the plethora of history in the Fredericksburg area positively fascinating, and ran out of time to see it all during our week there this fall. We'll definitely be returning to finish the job.

    Was there two years ago and enjoyed it immensely. You a precisely correct that it take a complete day to the WWII museum. We did it in 2 half days and they will allow that. I helps break it up as Ofer awhile, museums fill me up and I need to take a break. Doing that way, really made the entire tour more meaningful! The German restaurants are not to be missed. Great and authentic food. We took one day to go to San Antonio and one day to go see Austin, which were wonderful. The LBJ ranch was very educational and made me appreciate what Johnson did as President more meaningful. He was a truly advocate for education and equal rights. Could not get in to Enchanted Rock as you definitely need to make reservations ahead of time and be prepared for limited parking. We stayed a the Lady Bird Park and truly enjoyed the facilities. The planes were a bit annoying, but comes with the territory. Highly recommend this as a destination location and your video was EXCELLENT, very well done!

      Thank you Ronald! Glad that you enjoyed the video, especially as it sounds like we had very similar itineraries while we were there. It's a wonderful destination, and worthy of a repeat visit so that way we can go back and do all the things that we ran out of time to do.

    WE love Fredericksburg. One thing that locals will tell you is to go before daybreak to Enchanted Rock. You can put your $ in an envelope provided and go up before the crowd gets there and enjoy one heck of a sunrise. It is worth getting up early for!

    I know you come from a pretty spectacular part of the globe, but I hope you enjoyed your time in what we think of as our playground. While we don't
    live in the Texas Hill Country, we do have a "little slice of heaven" (as we see it) that we visit -- near another German-settled town -- not too far from Fredericksburg -- Boerne, TX. We have a plaque on our wall there, "The stars at night are big and bright -- Deep in the Heart of Texas". We think of our place as being deep in the heart of Texas. We enjoy visiting everyone's deep heart places -- from Oregon to California to Utah to Colorado to New Mexico to North Carolina to Pennsylvania to New York City to the Florida Keys and back to home -- Texas. How great is it that we can do this -- how important is it that more people do this. Travel let's us see that there is more than one way to live a great life.
    I enjoy all your videos -- but, I really enjoyed this one -- but then, I'm probably a bit biased. 😀

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Very well put, Dave. There are wonderful places in every corner of this nation to go explore. We went through Boerne back in 2019, and thought it was absolutely charming. There will come a time in the not too distant future when we will spend a week there.

      @@GrandAdventure when you get back, I recommend a visit to The Dodging Duck. They brew their own beer, but if you're not into beer the food is great too. It's housed in an old house across the street from Cibolo Creek -- a big duck "hangout" -- hence, The Dodging Duck!

    Interesting about the Sunday houses.
    The Pacific War museum looks like it alone would be worth the trip!
    I had to look up a new word: “batholith”. 🤓
    Definitely a better camp site than the previous video - much more trees.
    Have you bought yourself a hat or some boots yet?

      Glad you enjoyed it Gord, and thank you for such kind words! I've kind of fallen into an editing rhythm, which is both good and bad. Good in that it's consistent and faster to complete, but bad in that my brain gets boxed in and sometimes misses some unique editing opportunities.

    • @gorrdd
      @gorrdd 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@GrandAdventure Marc,
      Overall, your episodes are much more entertaining than earlier. I used to watch them more for the visual content you provided. Now I watch them more for the narration adventure... complemented by the visual content.
      You're at the point where your videography quality could be contracted out turnkey to those wishing to promote an area on the TH-cam platform... imo.
      There is market for what you do that is less expensive than other production companies but would be well worth your while... to the point of not having to work another job on the road.
      Just my impressions...
      Gord

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@gorrdd you're very kind, thank you sir. From where I sit, I think that the difference is that we've gotten better at using narration to weave individual elements filmed in a particular destination into a more cohesive story. Unlike many others I don't go out with my camera with an idea of the story I'd like to tell. Instead, I wander around an area with camera in hand, shooting anything that catches my eye. It's only when our visit to an area is done, and I'm wading through all of the footage that I shot, that I develop the story plan. That's where the narration comes in, for I couldn't do that on camera while I'm filming because at the time of filming I don't yet know the story that I want to tell.

    • @gorrdd
      @gorrdd 3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@GrandAdventure I agree, Marc. The visual content needs to remain spontaneous for creativity without being constrained by a storyline. But it's the storyline that is the cohesion of the presentation. You do the research and take notes. You always narrated but it's gotten much better.
      Thanks for all your efforts. I do look forward to each Wednesday evening because of this. When you go skiing... it's like it's somewhat over until next spring.
      Reviewing places you have been to before can be somewhat of a challenge. But every day is different and we see the environment differently with different impressions. I have found that out photographing the same locations multiple times.

    How are you doing master Marc thank you for sharing your trips with us as foreigners subscribers as overseas students enjoy to explore places unknown to us learn new information improve our English language as well. As always iam gathering main points about places you visited briefly here it’s there are 8 places in America named Fredericksburg and Fredericksburg Texas is seat of Gillespie county in us state of Texas in 1846 named after prince Frederick of Prussia old time German residents often referred to Frederick burg as friztown nickname still used in some business town is also notable as home of Texas German dialect spoken by first generations who refused to learn English there are many. Cultural characteristics with new braunfcls which had been established by prince of Carl of solms brainfels sorry brunfels misspelling Fredericksburg in Texas is famous because it’s birthplace of admiral Chester w Nimitz commander in chief. Hi Marc, Another very interesting video as always. Off topic a bit, I am wondering if you run LT tires or P tires on your Tundra. (you probably have mentioned this at some point in the past, but my recall powers are not what they once were I suppose). Obviously you are running E tires on the 5th wheel. As always, safe travels.

    • @GrandAdventure
      @GrandAdventure  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually I don't believe that we ever mentioned it, Shawn. We're running Nitto Grappler 2 LT tires on the Tundra, and used to run Mickey Thompson Baja ATX3's. I'm always looking for an aggressive tire that'll handle both off-road travel in the desert, and the 545" of annual average snowfall in Little Cottonwood Canyon where we spend our winters.

    Fredericksburg is no longer a good place for peaches, 90% of peach orchards are now wineries. Just be really, REALLY careful driving 290 between Johnson City and Fredericksburg, I call it Wino Alley and there are a lot of traffic accidents.

      Honestly, it's a nasty road even without DUI drivers. No shoulders, high speed traffic, and 4 lanes.
