I got a 2014 Captiva & is really a great car for me & wife. Very economical & good engine. Haven't got any problems with it,except the a/c & Chevy fix it under warranty. I bought it I 2014 with 8k miles. I will be keeping this Chevy until it falls apart! Right now it has 45k miles! Great vehicle..and looks like new!
I got a 2013 Chevy captiva it hasn’t gave me too many problems but I will say I’m currently at 180000 miles bought it at 130000 miles and I drive it down the interstate great on gas. Love it and I will drive it til the wheels fall off
Just bought one with 99,300 miles and I absolutely love it, the design is nice and the interior is very suitable and very comfortable to me......then again, I have never driven newer fancier cars. I always have owned cheaper and older cars, so the captiva is perfect to me. I also enjoy that it's rare around my area and I can say that I basically own a saturn. I drive all highway 90% of the time and love the fuel mileage. The carfax showed normal maintenance and it was very well taken care of and never beaten on or raced.
Enjoyed the review! My family rented a 2013 Captiva for a trip to Texas and my mom liked it so much we ended up buying a used 2014 Captiva LTZ with approx. 40k miles on it. I'm driving it right now and I have to say, the reasons you said it would be a good car for a kid just starting to drive are also the exact same reasons a guy around my age, who thinks modern cars are way too overloaded with gadgetry, driver assist technology, etc would buy it. It has JUST the right amount of safety and tech without being overbearing or intrusive into the way I want to drive. Also, it still has a traditional 6 speed automatic instead of a god awful CVT, and even with the 2.4 EcoTec engine can still move when you put your foot in it but still gets decent fuel economy. Also the Captiva DID offer a Delphi "MyFi" touchscreen stereo with navigation in some models, which I have considered swapping out for the base stereo/ CD, but even the base radio has satellite and AUX with USB, so there is that.
I. bought a 2012 Captiva sport in '14 and have 58k on it. I like it, burns a little oil and trans hesitates a little now and then but I plan to keep it till heaven comes.
I have a 2012 Captiva Sport LTZ. V6, AWD, leather? Purchased it as a vehicle that serves its purpose like a toaster oven. I use it, abuse it, rarely clean it, and paid a fraction of the cost of comparables. People smash carts into it at Costco...and I couldn't bother to care in the slightest. All the sudden iv put 35k miles on it, and its been a surprisingly good small SUV. I torture it here in Colorado, expecting it to explode and yet it just doesn't. Captiva👍 like a kitchen appliance but an SUV.
There are lots of reasons to turn the traction control off. One is when it is icy and you're trying to get out of your driveway and there is a hump of ice or snow, or trying to get up a slight incline when it is slick, as soon as traction control detects slip it stops the wheel, so you can't spin enough to get momentum to get over obstacles like that. Sometimes you actually want your wheels to spin a little bit rather than just completely stop turning which can leave you stranded in ice snow or mud.
"I don't know who in their right mind would turn off traction control" It depends on how good the traction control system is. Until I got my Camry, every single car I owned with TC drove worse in the snow with it on than with it off. My 2015 Camry is the first car I've owned where I actually leave it on most of the time. It's that good.
My favorite weird car that I almost bought was the 2008-2010 Saturn Vue Redline with the 3.6 v6 and the 4 or 5 speed auto transmission. Since they are harder to find now I could just get a good running Captiva v6 and add the Redline bumpers to the car. Then again it has its charms just the way it is.
I have to honestly say I’ll NEVER buy another Chevy product in my life. I have a 2013 model CRAPtiva as I like to call it. It’s given me so many problems over the years it’s just been one issue after another. Started having rough idle problems before 100k miles. Had a mechanic work on it and it still has a rough idle at times. My cousin used to have an Equinox and had the same problems! My front wheel bearings went out at around 125k miles. Now the rear main seal leaks and it burns oil. If you want reliability, stay far away from anything made by GM! My next vehicle will either be a Toyota or Hyundai.
I have a 2014 Captiva and I love mine, it just turned 130,000 and the only real problem I've had is the VVT solenoids go out which is a common problem with the 2.4 Ecotec engine.
From owning a Pontiac with the back floor panel locks I can tell you that if it isn't locked it will rattle, especially as you go over bumps, it can sound like someone is slamming something in the back of your car.
@@zackc.8015 well would you want your engine running above 220? thats the beginning of the death zone for most engines. just cuz its not boiling cuz of the pressure doesn't mean theres something not wrong going on if your engine is running 40 degrees hotter than the normal temp.

It's so weird, the Holden Captivas used to be everywhere but I can't remember the last time I saw one! Holden dealers were notoriously shocking at handling the many, many, MANY defects and issues with them and after the 2013 announcement that the Holden plant was closing in 2017 they well and truly threw in the towel. The Captiva destroyed the reputation of Holden for a lot of people, and it wouldn't surprise me if that's one of the reasons that caused GM to kill the brand entirely.
100% The "Craptiva" was a very good reason why we lost Holden. Terrible reliability from Daewoo engineering. Holden dealers couldn't care less about fixing issues, because they genuinely didn't know how to fix these shit heaps. Similar story with the Cruze too. At least with the Cruze, Aussie built models were better. Craptivas were just crap
I guess GM knew how bad it was, so they decided not to sell it to the public. It was so bad that many people call it the "Craptiva". If you're buying a compact crossover, you're better off getting a Toyota RAV4 or Honda CR-V.
LOL says the guy who has never owned or driven one and has zero clue. The only reason GM didn't sell it new here in the states was because they already had the Equinox, which was a bit larger (the way Americans like) but still considered a small SUV (and they could eek out a bit more of a profit margin on), and which they didn't sell in other parts of the world. There is absolutely nothing wrong with this vehicle, and if you say the EcoTec engine sucks, or the transmission is hesitant and hunts, or any of those things, guess what-- it's the EXACT same drivetrain they use in the Equinox, so the joke's on you. I sure wish morons who don't have a clue would stay off the comments section.
It could be very well a foreign market thing. My 1994 Deville has the same warning but that is because in the early 90s and in the 80s there were lots of accidents involving little kids that would get a hold of their parents cars and put it into drive and get into very bad accidents. And of course a lot of people that were buying 90s cars were coming from older cars that didn’t have such interlock systems. Volkswagen has a similar thing.
