    Each spy for their own self interests. Leading to no one actually being helped. I think there will be irony. The White Worm wants to protect the children of King's landing, but she'll end up killing one of Halaena's children. Larys wants to help his power but he ends up executed and powerless.

    This spy war / spy-masters dynamic I enjoyed quite a bit on HotD. For me HotD portrayed this very well in the way they set it up and their interpretation from the text. As with a lot in HotD there is a lot of filling in , navigating multiple often conflicting accounts and generally connecting the dots from F&B. Especially in terms of nuance , motivations and particulars there is a lot we are left speculating about and trying to truly discern from the text. With these spy-masters and spy war i liked how HotD presented it , how it seems the spy-masters are lining up and showing us some of the foundations of their perspectives and motivations. Which i am sure will take twists and turns as HotD goes along. HotD is brilliant , huge fan of it myself though in some cases some of their interpretations from the text that can be said to be clear divergences tbh weren't always my favorite ; like Laenor's survival, Rhaenys' role at Aegon II's coronation , how they presented Aemond killing Luke among other choices etc.
    But this brewing spy-war HotD presented quite well in an engaging and intriguing way. Will be interesting to see motivations , perspectives , how these spy-masters use their networks & operatives and who they will serve at given times. It will likely be an evolving process. We do have some hints and info about all this from the text to infer certain aspects. But i really appreciated how HotD specifically presented this whole concept / its dynamics , to me it was very well done. Very much look forward to seeing it all play out on the show / HotD's interpretation of this whole aspect of the narrative.

    The way the show fleshed out the White Worm, is one thing I think they did well in the show. And I hope they continue tp give us more with her. The conceit of the book means "little people" like Mysaria are overlooked or denigrated, and the show would do well to subvert that.

    I'm willing to bet that, at least in the show, Blood & Cheese will have been orchestrated by Mysaria, with no involvement from Rhaenyra or Daemon, as retaliation for the burning of her manse. Rhaenyra/Daemon will just be given the blame because it's in the wake of the Lucerys incident, and it seems like something Daemon would do. Anything the historians can use to undermine Rhaenyra's cause.
    As for the seeming contradiction with Mysaria's stated goal of protecting children, it could be interpreted in three ways: 1. She feels justified since the burning of her manse makes sense as retaliation by Otto Hightower; 2. She wants to protect the _common_ children who otherwise have no one else looking out for them, and therefore feels nothing for royal children; 3. She wants to strike back at the greens, while (for her safety) maintaining the illusion that she perished in the fire and striking back in a way that can be attributed to Daemon. It would also be a way for her to make good on her poorly veiled threat to Otto in Ep9.

    • @TimesFM4532
      @TimesFM4532 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Suspect they won’t since it’s just another way of making Damon and Rhaenyra look good. Imagine part of the idea is showing the downfall of these people we’ve seen since being children and young adults so just making it a misunderstanding would be cheap

    • @X525Crossfire
      @X525Crossfire ปีที่แล้ว +4

      @paultiplady3179 It wouldn't strictly be misunderstanding - it would be revenge, false flag operations, children suffering for the sins of the parents, and history being written by the victor. Sounds very George R. R. Martin-esque, doesn't it?

    • @fox2569
      @fox2569 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Honestly that would be a cowardly thing to do on the show runners part, trying to make Rhaenayra and Daemon look like better people than they are (Daemon was always a piece of shit)

    • @magnusnilsson1962
      @magnusnilsson1962 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thing is, all of the book is given through the pen of a narrator who has an own agenda. It is very much an open question just how much is placed or hinted as being varses by Daemon than actually was something he did or was involved in.
      History events are often messy with many different actions and agendas being pursued by lots of people. And history books often simplify.
      Would it be lazy or “wrong” or missed narratives if show runners doesn’t add in this kind of complexity? From my view, that mainly boils down to how it is done.

    • @stephenjenkins7971
      @stephenjenkins7971 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@X525Crossfire You can't cry about historians undermining Rhaenyra's cause by making that connection when they also claimed that Aemond intentionally and brutally kinslayed too. At some point, ya'll need to reconcile with the fact that the histories is not exactly anti-Rhaenyra.

    Not a lot of time for Mysera this first season, but they made a point to introduce her early all the same because she's going to be a big player in time. Now that everyone is a bit older and all vying for the Throne, all the Spy Masters will become much more important.

  • @jacob4920

    The main GOT show had Littlefinger vs Varys. It's only right that the new show has two spymasters going at each other, yet again. Luckily, this time around, one of the two spymasters is attractive, not a weirdo, and definitely has goals that each of us can get behind. So I imagine most of us are going to wind up rooting for Myseria in this little tit-for-tat.
