I'm not a very good NBA 2K player, and I got it without any player upgrades, so I think you can get it right away. It could also depend on the position you choose, but if you play as a Center, you can let your teammates do most of the work while you focus on defense. Give it a try and let me know if you're having trouble with any specific matchup. Also, keep grinding your stats a bit, you'll need to do it anyway for other trophies. :) Thanks for your comment.
