Always a treat to watch Järvi conduct. His enthusiasm is always so evident, plus a sort of complicity with the orchestra, with each and all the musicians. You get the impression he has a splendid relationship with them.
Mendelssohn like Tchaikovsky understands Shakespeare's dramas intimately. The music perfectly captures the text in musical form. Wonderful performance. Many thanks to this world class orchestra,
'Ein Sommernatchstraum' is a joint core of Mendelssohn & Shakespeare! A Solemn, Heroic & a most Illuminating musical and love story. A beautiful sensitive performance!
And it is so gratifying that the audience gave the conductor for and musicians a long applause. I would have as well, had I been in the audience. Bravissimi tutti.
I love Menselssohn and love Jarvi conducting. Some people don't realize the importance of a conductor. The best are geniuses. Yes, music is a language like math. Happy those who can understand some of it!!
No they don't. I saw AI conducting robot arms the other day. Unbelievable. It got me wondering how Jarvi, and other great conductors learn their skills. If I got the opportunity to guest conduct I would listen to the worst and best interpretations by other conductors; I don't read music, but I would certainly study the musical score, and that would be to just pretend I could conduct. No, far too many don't have a clue, and it will only get worse as we continue on the soundbite, faux-reality of our machine world. And let's not forget Menselssohn and what he has done here. I fell for his style while rocking to his violin concerto in my late teens. I couldn't have imagined this kind of music then, but I am here now. I do have trouble with the text of the last movement, but this is Shakespeare, and musical genius ❤

A veritable “casket of jewels”, each one sparkling in the joy of the orchestra. The flutist did a beautiful job of the solo parts and the conductor certainly enjoyed the music-making. A wonderful musical experience. Bravo 👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
This music full of dreams and mystery is a breath of fresh air in ourlife of less than100 years in this transient world of so much hassle and annoyances
I don't know why, but music always seems to sound better in a foreign language, one you don't understand, including music itself. I don't know why Felix Mendelssohn isn't more highly regarded as a composer, he's definitely one of my favorites. I can see him as a popular composer as he has a wonderful penchant for writing beautiful melodies which are very singable. Also, he was arguably the greatest child prodigy as many of the works he wrote in his youth and teens is still played today, whereas most of the music we hear of Mozart was written when he was slightly older, in his twenties at least. Either way, we lost both of them much too early. I'm sure you know Mendelssohn wrote the overture when he was only 17 years old, I believe. The incidental music came later however, but it's still wonderful. I noticed all the pieces played are odd numbered segments, that's kind of interesting, a little like Beethoven's Symphonies, but I like some of the even numbered ones as well. ; ) Excellent performance, one of the best I've heard. Good acoustics, sonic waveforms, intonation and decent tempo. I've heard it played with a bit more pace and energy, but this was still very good. I find this interesting as the conductor has the orchestra play after a large pause on the beat/downbeat, on the bounce as I've heard it called. I'd imagine this is particularly difficult with the opening chords as they are all held and the conductor has to cue each of them.
Thanks for your interesting comments. did you see the movie of "Midsummer's Night Dream" Mendelssohn's themes were used to striking effect there. And credit was given, which I thought a good and gracious thing.
Ouvertüre (0:27) Nr. 1 Scherzo (13:24) Nr. 3 Lied mit Chor (18:12) Nr. 5: Allegro appassionato (22:54) Nr. 7: Con moto tranquillo (27:15) Nr. 9: Nr. 9 Hochzeitsmarsch (33:05) Nr. 11: Ein Tanz von Rüpeln (38:08) Finale (39:50) End Credits (45:30)
My favourite orchestra and so diverse. Concert master, Alejandro, from the Argentine; Clara, flute, from Spain; Nicolas,Oboe, from France and Sam, horn, and Klaus, trombone, from Germany. So many sparkling individuals but able to come together to produce such brilliance. If you haven't listened to Klaus's playing at the beginning of Mahler 3, please do. I have never heard such impeccable trombone playing and that's what I'm going to listen to now. Enjoy as I will!
This trumpet section is excellent -- beautiful sound, very balanced with the other brass. The principal descending theme of the overture (heard in the coda and elsewhere) is lifted straight from Weber's 'Oberon' (the Mermaid's Song). Same key, even.
The flute solo was one of the best playings I've heard in a while, after Emmanuel Pahud's solo. But I'm not sure I liked the part, where the second flute played the low ascending part in order for the first flute to breathe. I could easily tell the difference in tone...
Absolutely right a Treasure. Greetings from Yorkshire.
I can only imagine what Felix Mendelssohn could have achieved if he had not died so young.
Tell us...

This conductor seems like the best possible leader to work with. What a genial man. What an orchestra! I love this piece.

It's incredibly how a talented conductor like Paavo has made this orchestra sounded like a Berliner Philharmoniker, sometimes even better.
The conductor, Paavo Jaervi did a magnificent job in leading the instrumentalists in this musical piece!
This is so beautiful! A big thank you to the hr-Sinfonieorchester that shares these treasures with us.
A beatiful performance.
It's all pure gold - not just the overture and wedding march - and is performed as such here, delightful music that never sounded better.
And the girl's flute is gold too
One of the greatest musical pieces ever written...
Mendelssohn like Tchaikovsky understands Shakespeare's dramas intimately. The music perfectly captures the text in musical form. Wonderful performance. Many thanks to this world class orchestra,
I NEVER TIRE OF SEEING AND HEARING THIS VIDEO! The music is BEAUTIFUL!
Somewhere around 13:07 and 13:24 I realised my face hurts from smiling. What a time to be alive

I meant to say, "...gave the conductor and the musicians..." How this system twists my words.

Comfort of this performance is off the charts
Bravo to the musicians for a beautiful performance and bravo to the audience for savoring the ending before applauding.
Wonderful, even magical interpretation of this lovely work-the soprani and choir were great as well. Paavo Jarvi is, as usual, great!!
Paavo, you have got it, damn it, man! God bless you and Mendelssohn

Paavo Järvi is the new torchbearer of the central German classics - Beethoven/Brahms/Mendelssohn/Schumann!
Delightful, can't fault this orchestra, best in Europe.
¡Bravo!
Both first flutist and oboist are georgous
indeed!!
Yes!
Sencillamente, maravilloso. Muchas gracias por compartir 💐💐💐

hr-Sinfonieorchester - Frankfurt Radio Symphony i
If the original is marvelous, the translation is a "recreation" in every sense worthy!!
This orchestral production by Paavo Jaervi is the most enjoyed! I NEVER TIRE of viewing this program!
The Wedding March comes across with a briskness and freshness which makes one feel one hearing it for the first time.
I get very excited to hear this opus but the 8:40 to 10:21 part leads me to tears. Wonderful. The best reggae I've ever heard.
This conductor is just great.
WUNDERBAR!
What a glorious sound this very talented orchestra produce!

The music is absolutely sublime. The chorus is wonderful. Putin is great, and the orchestra maintains its very high standard.
Stop calling Him Putin, the only thing they have in common is that they both have no hair.
