Hey Dee! Wow, even though I'm not working on a movie a lot of your advice aligns with all of this academic writing have to do! What I find interesting is how the logline is a one-page document to introduce people to your manuscript (screen play- forgive me if I'm not using the right language🤦🏿♀️). This aligns with formatting and the importance of following the format or else people won't read it! Another great video, Dee! I want YT to share your knowledge; you are dropping dimes in here! 😊
@@dionareesewilliams The amount of work I see ignored by my colleagues because of formatting issues is astounding. People for real have short attention spans and will not read your work if they ask for a one page and you submit more than that one page. They already assume you don’t know how to follow directions so why waste time working with you?!
I learned early on in my career about formatting. There’s even a specific location for the date and many producers will cast you aside if placement is wrong. Again they feel you didn’t do your due diligence so why work with you…
So the main thing here is follow that format and give the people what they want!
Thank you LaSure for sharing these helpful tips! Trying to shorten my logline has been challenging since I'm trying to figure out how to keep it as one sentence. I know a logline can be 1-2 sentences, but someone told me 2 sentences is rare and the goal is to get someone's attention fast. I took a step back from it and hopefully I can return back to it soon.
I have a question. How many main characters is too much for a logline? Also, if someone is writing a one-line logline, is it best to focus on one main character? If you could please clarify, it would be greatly appreciated. Thank you in advance and thanks again for sharing these tips! I'll definitely keep them in mind whenever I get back to working on my project.
@@UniquelyAshantesCorner Two is a safe number to introduce in your logline and if there are more I would simply quantify them as a trio, or a group of friends, or colleagues etc. Not every character needs to be named. If your film centers around a group, then say group.
Yes, you definitely have to hook your reader fast. One sentence is fine however I have been successful with two at times.
Pull up log lines from your favorite movies and read what it says as an exercise to help you write yours.
Happy writing!
