Used to live here. I used to go to school here before I moved. Now, I'm stuck at a crappy old broke school. Won't say where, but i will say that you're very familiar with it.

No surprising most of the things on the inside are left behind. Two of the Walmart Supercenters in my state are out of business as well. I went inside in one of the Walmarts they closed a few months ago and managed to make a video of it. There was auction going on for the reason. Probably right now everything is empty. Before going inside a former Walmart, I got inside old Target, and a deserted Kmart. The old Kmart was in worse shape than the old Target I went to. Feel free to check those vids out. Great video!

walmart handles all their own realty (they have their own realtor division) .. because of this, they wont sell properties to anyone who could be a potential competitor.. so nobody in their market.. so they remain abandoned for a long time if not indefinitely .. when my local walmart built a super walmart, their old store stood empty for almost a decade before they divided it into three smaller stores and leased them out to random businesses that didnt sell anything at discount lol

yup, Walton wanted to own, not lease his stores, one reason they grew slower than Kmart at the beginning. I don't see this getting anything to replace it, not where it's at.

the walmart vestibule reminds me of Belleville Carlyle Walmart and upright Ghosts n Goblins, Spyhunter and Ms. Pacman

I did some digging later, and found out that the Carlyle Walmart was originally Grants, then a couple years later when they folded, Walmart jumped on the building, then about a decade later decided it was too small, and built another one next to it with National taking over the former one (and they had some musical buildings too going from their original spot to Kroger's old spot across the street).

    How Walmart close on 2023

    • @jackson5116

The area it's in is well known for shoplifting, and other crimes (shootings). Walmart stopped supporting the store, because they could never expand it, and the losses were too high, so they just pulled the plug on it.

Hello, didn't know how to contavt you. You commented an a video about a year ago called "girl arm wrestling champion Vs strong man" I'm just trying find out more about it. I'm sceptical about it, the edit at the beginning and so on. Just wanted another persons opinion if that's ok

It's definitely a fake video, the editing you mention is one very big indicator it's fake.

This area really went downhill, pretty soon this will be boarded up.

You totally called it, it's boarded up now. It is more heartbreaking than anything else, because I grew up there, and watched it die the last 20+ years. :(

@@jackson5116 we were there yesterday and we could see inside. I tried filming the abandoned Shop N Save center, there was scrappers inside so we immediately left. The National down street has a sign that says “No Trespassing, violators will be shot” we just immediately left after that.

    • @jackson5116

Huh, it looked like it was boarded when I drove by it last week- unless someone tore them down, and knowing that area it's possible. And they're not joking about the shooting, there are so many shootings in that area today, it's why no one in my family lives there anymore. We all were gone by the end of the 2000's (same time period the demographics flipped going from mostly white to mostly black- kind of the exact definition of "white flight").

@@jackson5116yes the area is horrible, I will NOT be coming back.

I don't blame you. My parents still can't unload my childhood home, which has sat empty since they left in 2007. We still go by it to check on it since it is abandoned (and boarded itself due to the area), but they just can't get any buyers for it (probably should have moved out and tried to sell it a decade earlier, because I think by this point it's too late). It may be hard to imagine, but there was a time when I was living there and walked to school everyday (of course that was the 80's when Cahokia was at its peak, both in population and businesses).
