The outdated store saw the end of its life in 2023 due to numerous circumstances, including high crime. Take a look at this final Wa...

Awww man wish you record more videos of Them
It was my first time seeing them in person (was given a high recommendation to see them in person by a friend who also like FK&C, saying I was in for a treat), and after seeing this show, I think from now on I'm going to be recording everything I can during their shows, because it was amazing!!
5:35 thank me later
Is this older? Or is someone celebrating early for the year?
It's an early celebration- the tour was last night (September 21), and they've got one of the most highly regarded Little Drummer Boy performances (as you probably see in this video), as well as a new Christmas movie coming out in December which features a live performance of Christmas songs. This is how they concluded their Unsung Hero (a movie from April) tour.
DAMN! What a performance!!
At Belleville Salvation army, i hid what looks like a mechanics roller for working under cars on your back. Lower shelf in housewares. for YOU! Its stained wood. Has a kinda brown head pad. Black plastic wheels. It has a beautiful black painted KMART sign on it. Maybe 5 ft long. It stands out. Might be gone. I flipped it over so noone could read it. I drove the little vehicle and wasnt sure i could fit it in there and shift still. It would have gotten scratched up in the way back home.
Looks like they're called "mechanics creeper". That's not intimate dating at all.
Oh no! The asking prices for the dark stained versions are pricey. I should have asked them to hold it for me. I think it had other fine lettering along the bottom too. It's not the squeezed boxey square "kmart" logo either
Oh, nice! Thanks! Yeah, they're called creepers, I saw some at closing Kmart's, and the same, they wanted a lot for those things. They're really good for lying on your back while working under a vehicle, but really not much more since you're so close to the ground. I'll have to go to the Salvation Army- I know exactly where it is!
Gross
Try making ToysRus abandoned
That used to be a thriving area. When I lived there in the early 80s, I remember I hit the car in front of me accidentally in the drive-thru of the original McDonald's as a teenager. There was a Mr. Donut nearby where the cops would hang out. There was a Wendy's across the street when Wendy's was a new thing! There was a record store in the shopping center across the street where kids loved to hang out as well. This is really sad.
Mr Donut, I had forgotten about that place! Yeah, this part of Belleville has definitely gone down the tubes.
I grew up in Belleville. I attended Roosevelt Elementary, Central Junior High, and Belleville West in 70s and 80s. I can remember that as a teenager, my friends and I would drive up and down Main Street for entertainment and hanging out! Thanks for this video. I left Belleville when I left for college, and then my family moved away, so I haven't been back since. It was nice to see the streets again.
Glad you enjoyed it! It was fun driving the entire thing, and explaining how 60 Minutes wasn't fully accurate in how they portrayed Belleville.
Buckee's looks like Wally's. Visit Wally's and compare them.
I plan on visiting Wally's soon. Stay tuned!
Imma miss my skatepark 😢
I had no idea that you were in the Missouri I live in central Missouri and I plan to visit this bucees of these days
I went down to Branson for a couple days, and stayed in Springfield, mainly so I could see, and film this place (I wanted to do a few more places, but the heavy rain the days prior screwed up my plans).
@@jackson5116 yeah I know how you feel I was going to do a few videos in Illinois while I was there 2 days ago but the roads where the restaurants and parks are were flooded so I couldn't do no videos of anything in Illinois which was a total disaster
If their squadron fuel up is that big is the store just as long?
It's pretty large! It felt like a hybrid between a supercenter and a gas station where it's like ten times as big as a normal convenience store.
I'm surprised to see TY still making beanies. Is that 1995 or 96 those came out?
Quite a while ago. I know they were insanely huge back then, but I never followed them beyond those news reports of people buying up hundreds for their retirement (oops! LOL).
That truck is awesome
It was one of my favorites, so I had to film it!
I've never heard of this company before
I only heard of them, because the school I work at one of the kids had one of their items, and she said it was this super large gas station, so I had to check it out, and she wasn't kidding, this place is gigantic!
there used to be like a small, I think drive-thru only 1950's rock n roll style kind of McDonalds in fairview on 159. it if wasn't fairview, it was Swansea. I'm positive it was 159 though. I remember it was silver and had like musical notes.
Supposedly Abe Lincoln (no joke) visited that place.
You're right, that's what the report I heard was too- saying that he was traveling through here, and stayed there. Could have been since Belleville and O'Fallon existed much longer than Fairview, so this hotel would have been along the route between cities (both much, much smaller than they are today).
does anyone remember where the discovery zone used to be in fairview in the 90's??
5905 N Illinois was its address. I street view searched it, and it's the Aldi/Wine store now.
@@jackson5116 thank you! I was having an argument with a family member; they were saying Il never had a DZ!
the goodwill next to it used to be a pier 1 imports! they then moved it down to 159 and pier 1 went under, and its now a pop shelf.
That's what that was. I was trying to remember what was there before Goodwill. Fairview has seen so much turnover, it's hard to keep track of everything!
I remember the old Taco Bell, before they tore it down and built the new one. and the McDonalds just up from this, I remember the old one... it was kinda victorian looking and had a train/table/seat thing you could sit in.
It was still the old Taco Bell in the early-90's when I was going to BAC, so I remember it too- looked more like Taco Bell than this thing does. I'm not a fan of this new one, they put in those two drive thru windows for the pay/pickup, but they never use that first one to pay, you do it all at the same window, and it just slows everything down!
that whole area is really, for lack of a better word, ghetto. the dollar tree's drop ceiling is falling out, the parking lot of the whole area sucks.
Nice way of putting it. It is pretty rough now, and it's a shame, because this complex isn't that old, and essentially Westfield's replacement (I still miss that Kmart).
I'm sorry they treated you like that.
Thanks. I don't know how it'd be today, I'm noticing the 80's trends are starting to come back, so who knows.
I think there’s also a small DQ abandoned near it. I know someone is living behind it cause I saw the shopping cart and their stuff.
Yeah, I don't get back to Collinsville as much today as I did years ago- kind of interesting too since I work in Fairview, and live in Belleville, so I'm not really that far away, I just don't really have much reason to go there now, so I don't.
The Sears in Stockton, California is scheduled to permanently close
I live in the town over, Caseyville, and we had a okay sized laundromat. In about 2013 -2017 it turned into a karate training area. in 2019 or 2020 they abandoned it entirely. It's up for sale and some minor renovations are being done.
I got half in AZ
Nice. At least you got to enjoy some of it. It kind of sucks that my camera isn't better, I saw some videos some people did, and they look so, sooo good!
Worked there for the last 8 years they were open. Lot of fun times. So sad when we closed.
Aldi closed after Kmart. They moved to a new location
Now Wise Guys
I saw that. It looked good, and I may check it out sometime.
Dude, you trying to go blind looking at a solar eclipse?? You're too young to be messing with your eyes!!
No, I wore the eclipse glasses both times I went to them, and only took them off when it was safe to do so during totality. That's why this one is looking at the trees at first, because I was waiting until totality when I took them off, and looked at the sun, while also recording it!! Besides, I made it to my 50's and still have 20/20 vision!
We drove from STL to see it here in Carlyle, it was amazing :D
We were both there at the same time! I'm glad you got to enjoy it as well; it was the closest area I could find that had both totality, and was an area I knew.
in my area I don't think we were in the path of totality
Yeah, it was a very small area of southern Illinois. Carlyle was right on the edge of it for only like a minute, that's the closest I was able to get totality. Sadly, my camera did the exact same thing it did in 2017, and couldn't get the corona. At least I got totality with this one, even if it was short like this.
I miss Kmart. Too bad the corporate idiots ruined the company. The store employees were always nice
I miss when LJS actually looked like that one. I could turn that place into the perfect bar and grill.
Still empty, and for lease, wanna open it in Fairview Heights, only 12 miles from downtown St Louis, and a 3-million metro population? I want to see it saved, it's nearly 50 now...
Lowes reopened selling bulk scratch and dent appliances.
Close April 21
When I was on vaction visiting my grandmother in Illinois, I went to that one in the Summer of 1993 and bought a Street Fighter II 12 Inch Action Figure of the character Guile. My mom at the time said she heard that a kidnapping happened at that Toys R Us when a kid wondered off from the childs parents in there, did that happen there?
I used to eat at the one in Towson, MD by Luskins. Many years later, I found one in Pigeon Forge TN which I ate at before they eventually closed.
The Tennessee one was the one I last went to before discovering that one remained in Clearwater. I'm glad I was able to get to it at least. Not sure when I'll be back, but am working on trying to get back there.
Went to one in Catonsville, as a kid, w my grandparents. Late late 80s. Good times.
It's still very well maintained and has been turned into "Ballparks of America," for minor league tournaments. It used to have neat stores, such as Kitchen Collection and Tuesday Morning, both of which relocated to the Branson Meadows mall for awhile. Sadly both have since closed. I live in Branson, btw. Tanger recently added a ton of more parking and it's always packed. But there are many good memories of this red roof mall.
Used to live here. I used to go to school here before I moved. Now, I'm stuck at a crappy old broke school. Won't say where, but i will say that you're very familiar with it.
Just drove past.....sad because this was my favorite location 😢
I’ve always thought it’s very rude to abruptly shut something down that a community relies on. Especially when it’s a good performing location. (I know they probably don’t have much control of it but sometimes I blame the victim)
I lived in O'Fallon, IL back in the early '90s. Haven't been there since, but it was nice to see the old area again.
look into east "safe" louis - howard hughes the third project
Yeah, it's good PR they're doing, but I looked into myself after watching this video by Joe & Nic. Like they point out on their video, murders are down, but since the population has shrunk so much it's still got the highest rate in the country. Here's their video on it here: th-cam.com/video/5hNIxor4Ao4/w-d-xo.html

you need a convertible bus with mic and refreshments for riders. you could give tours. nice details!
Thanks! I tried to make it somewhat entertaining.
that tiny bit of main st. got me lost in the dark first starting my job trying to pick riders up. before gps and only street guides (which became my favorite mapping). i was so sure i was to be fired
It's crazy just how long this street is. I never really thought much about it until one of my mom's cousins from the St Louis side came here for a funeral at Mt Hope. She used GPS to find "Belleville" which took her to the square. She had to drive from there all the way to Mount Hope! When she got there the first thing she said was "Wow, is that a long road!", and my mom goes "That's only half of it!" You should have seen her look!
@@jackson5116it is loooong. i enjoy the ride trying to remember what it looked like. my youngest and i went to Cahokia today. more sadness.
