@Raymond lol that iPod got stolen by the seller's brother and they ended up cancelling. I'm still very mad about it. I ordered a different one after that and it arrived today completely smashed in. I am beginning to think 4th gens are cursed
I did the same upgrade to a 3G. Some SD cards don't work with that CompactFlash adapter I've found. The Type II adapter seems to work better for some reason....

How about trying a Toshiba FlashAir SD card. It might let you transfer music wirelessly - though you’d probably need to run Rockbox rather than iPod OS. I’ve had one of these SDs working (with a CF adapter) in my early 2000s HP Jornada PDA.
I NEED HELP! I'm trying to do this same modification to the same iPod and it's not working. My computer WILL NOT detect it. Even when I put it into disk mode, it doesn't show up and it freezes after a few seconds. It does the same thing with the original (dead) HDD. What do I do?

I recently got an iPod 4th generation, and your video helped me get the parts I needed. Now I'm a bit stuck-the Compact Flash adapter works since iTunes detects it when I plug it in, but when the restore finishes, I get a message saying the iPod is corrupted, and it just starts over. I tried disk mode and the restore completes, but the corrupted message shows up at the end again. i also went into diagnostic mode but i dont know what to do in there
Darn it your mini gen2 video got me to get my first iPod. Went with a mini and gonna rockbox it with a 128gb SDxc using a trusty SDxc to CF type II adapter. Was tempted to get an iPod classic gen 6 but the mini gen2 is still cheepish for now and easy to open.

Those aren't compatible with 4th gen iPods AFAIK
You have to take iFlash Quad + 4th Gen iPod to iFlash Converter, but it's way more expensive
