    I have 3 years now the older version of the blue Trident on a blue rubber from Chr.Ward it is an amazing watch, cost me some 600 Euro and it is like a much higher-end brand, true divers I go to the sea and all, beautiful one, worth every penny, 5 years warranty also.

    I've been a Christopher Ward customer for almost 15 years. I have five of them. They're really great. I've only had a problem with one -- a case issue that cropped up after my warranty expired -- and I sent it back and they re-cased it (which I paid for). It takes awhile for service (sending back & forth across the pond and such) but they kept in touch and it all worked out fine. I can't say enough good things about everyone of the pieces I own. I'm looking at getting another one this year, actually. Glad you got around to looking at one. Thanks.

    I currently have a huge crush on the Breitling Superocean Heritage. But when I see these Christopher Wards, I'm having a hard time justifying the Breitling's price, even grey-market/Chrono24. Granted: The Breitling has the better name and (probably) movement and I've only ever seen it "in the flesh", not the CW. But, man.. those Brits do seem to make some sweet watches.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yeah in comparison with something like a Breitling which uses effectively the same movement (ETA 2824?) this sure looks to be good value!

    • @brubrushanghai
      @brubrushanghai 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      1SaG to me the movements in CW watches are the most important let downs. Most manufacturers are modifying or creating their movements. It is a sign of maturity. Paying 1000 or 1500 euros for a 38h Selita is a no-no despite the beautiful designs

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Well actually *most* manufacturers are not making in-house movements, and for a small company like CW, it’s a bigger hurdle. Even Breitling never had in-house movements until about 10 years ago. You can pay $5k for a watch with an ETA in it, so I reckon this CW is still fair enough.

    Oris uses grade 2 titanium, at least in the Carlos Coste editions. It does pick up fine scratches easier then 316L steel bit it's not an appreciable difference. Grade 2 vs grade 5, I don't know. Grade 2 in supposed to be more "hypoallergenic " and more corrosion resistant. Marketing hype? I don't know but it is easy to live with, easy to maintained. I bought my Oris primarily for off road motorcycling. Although it is a wonderful daily, a quintessential robust tool watch. The CH? Nice understated blue, both dial and bezal. Side profile is very nice and while the orange is nice of the face. The vibrant contrast on the strap would have me choosing the bracelet. As usual great review.

    Beautiful watch! Just Like the Breitling fan below, I’m having a very hard time justifying the omega Seamaster I’ve been saving up for, And the price difference.
    I went in search of more information on the different grades of titanium. It appears grade 5 and grade 2 are the only grades that would be suitable for a watch, And the only real difference between 5 and 2 Is that 2 has a higher tensile strength And less likely to become magnetized because of its purity While still remaining ‘moldable’(so suitable for making it into a watch case). It also appears to be even more corrosion resistant then grade 5 because it doesn’t have impurities such as iron.
    The difference between X1C1 and X1 C3 Superluminova Is is C1is much whiter in color, and of course C3 is green… Although C1 Starts out looking less bright to the human eye when fully charged, they both Dim at an equal rates (So theoretically they last the same amount of time) So going with C1 vs. C3 is a Style choice much like going with BGW9 for that blue color. More than anyone wanted to know I’m sure! Thanks for all the great reviews, this one included! Cheers!

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    • @Mister_Phafanapolis
      @Mister_Phafanapolis 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      I believe in practice the X1C3 would appear to be brighter for longer since the human eye is more sensitive to green light.

    Thanks for this great watch review, Ivan. totally opposite of what you did last week, ha ha.
    As some comments have mentioned it, CW is a really solid micro brand. very transparent, great customer service and decent value proposition. As for this watch, I have some mixed emotions about this. it does look good, solid specs, specially chronometer, 1000 meters and grade 2 titanium to make the watch lighter. Normally 1000 meter watches are over 200 grams, so around 125 grams is just perfect.
    the design of the dial, hands, bezel..etc reflect the quality and their attention to detail. I certainly have no problem with that.
    5 years warranty? that is really great for the brand and for the price.
    And at $1600 (with bracelet?) is also very reasonable for what it is.
    I like the "look" of that grade 2 titanium. it does look like regular 316 stainless steel bracelet, specially shinny and meticulous chamfered edges on the casing is just awesome. the side view of the case is really something else! Normally, I hate the color of grade 5 titanium, too dark and gray and it really does show the scratches...(perfect example was Steinhart titanium watch that I bought and sold in less than two weeks due to the scratches...) With much lighter colored titanium, perhaps it won't show the scratches as easily as grade 5 with dark gray color.
    Also, I loved the bracelet end link with easy adjustment. that is as good of an invention as Rolex glide lock. And so as their "glide lock" style clasp. In some way, it does look better than Rolex or Monta Glide lock. but I do not know how it functions...Ivan, does it work as well as Rolex glide lock?
    By the way, what baffles me is the push pin bracelet. THAT, I totally do not understand. for the price point, for what it is, for CW brand, at $1600 or more, push pin is NOT acceptable. I absolutely do not know what they were thinking.....
    Also, as you have mentioned, they really goofed up on the orange, tacky strap. I would never be seen with that strap. it really does not go with the watch at all. Perhaps whomever did the strap had a major brain fart?
    Finally, I am not a big fan of 9 o'clock position brand name because it just screw up the symmetry and aesthetic of the dial. And they got to make their logo at 12 o'clock more visible. Perhaps they have their own reasons, but logo must be seen. and Seen well enough that people would remember.
    Personally, there are a lot of things that I like, specially He valve, back case and case profile, love the color and finishing of the titanium, end link adjustable and clasp. But push pin, invisible logo and THAT strap really cheapens the watch.
    Ivan, finally something for me to talk about.
    Thanks a lot and have a great day.
    PS: I guess that I will have to wait 3 days to receive your comments on this, right? ha ha ha

    • @ricchrono5907
      @ricchrono5907 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have the exact same watch, without the bracelets, I wear it with a colourful NATO instead as ivan mentioned, the condura strap is really not considered comfortable. I put it on a watch roll for a month, still not molding, conforming to the wrist shape. it's the side of the wrist that will be pinched on, leaving some hot patches on both sides of the wrist.
      about the push pin links, I am inclined to believe it's there for a reason. I think screws arent used because of the natural characteristics of titanium. it's harder and lighter than steel, however it also means that it's more brittle. have a narrow long screw between links wouldnt be an issue, the real problem comes when someone tries to size it up, applying torque the titanium screws can be tricky and risky, should it snap you link is a goner. I think that is the reason why screws arent used there.

    • @alexsdg3441
      @alexsdg3441 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ricchrono5907 thanks for your explanation on the push pin. I didn't know that. I only assumed that Stainhart and many other titanium watches over $800 all had screws, so I assume that CW also should have specially at that high price. actually I can not remember any other titanium watches over $1500 has push pins.... Perhaps Ivan might knows about this since he has the contact with CW people.. anyway. thank you very much for your information.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for the comments guys. Pretty much agree with your sentiments there Alex, except for the notion of "awesome value"... I would argue that a brand like Steinhart being slightly older and possibly just as established presently offers best in class value, for essentially the same quality Swiss Made, and same movements, at considerably cheaper price points than CW. So CW doesn't get "awesome" from me I'm afraid :o
      With regards to the push pins, Ric you may want to check your facts there - to clarify, Titanium is *stronger* than steel but certainly NOT harder - it is in fact softer, and scratches more easily. That is not a paradox - the physical properties of strength and hardness are two different things. If I'm not mistaken Steinhart uses steel screws in their titanium bracelet, which works fine - I can tell you for sure that the case backs are steel and not titanium, as titanium screwed together like that would meld over time and the case would not be able to be opened again. So to me the push pins remain inexcusable.
      Lastly, Alex you asked about the function of the clasp - I would say it is very well made and functions almost as well as glide-lock, but has a much smaller range, being only 4 points of adjustment, whereas Rolex glide-lock gives 20mm of adjustment option.
      Cheers! :)

    • @alexsdg3441
      @alexsdg3441 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@PerthWAtch Yep. you are absolutely correct. Hence... I changed AWESOME to Decent, ha ha ha. thanks for reply. as for the function of the clasp, you would say...the glide lock range of CW is about half of Rolex glide of 20mm? or even smaller? if that small, I wouldn't be much interested because in my personal opinion, the Rolex Glide Lock range is just about perfect.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah the range is approximately 10mm I think, so about half the glide-lock.

    A nice watch. I was considering buying a CW, have not been sure about which one.

    The current version has a day/Date, really don’t know why they did that, looks strange to me. Also, they don’t offer this is white.
    I’m leaning more towards the Steel C60. The COSC is really not worth it, or is Titanium. Plus I believe it’s thinner as it’s 600m instead of 1000m. Waiting for a sale.

In 2011 I bought another similar car for £11,500 and at the time an explorer was about £5000 the car was about 2 times the watch price. There could be another explanation but it seems to me that Rolex can sell all that they make so can charge much more for them (greed? preserving exclusivity? )

It did have a fault which I have had on a 2824 too where the rotor spins around when hand winding. There was no argument, prepaid packaging arrived and the watch sent off. A few weeks later it was back as good as new. I am looking at the new elite 1000 and it's only the scuff resistance that is making me dither. I will probably order it though.

    The movement is a Sellita sw200 not the sw 200-1. I found out this because mine stopped woreking inside three days of delivery because the hand winding movement broke ! Sellita have revised their design as per the 200-1 to make this less likely to occur. Great watch all the same, I had to buy the titanium bracelet at 300 GBP separately btw. Keep safe mate, love the vids

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Ah I see, thanks for highlighting that discrepancy... I think you're right it's a Sellita SW200, and not the updated 200-1.

    FYI , Titanium is classed as a tough material. ie it will not lose it strength properties regardless of being beaten (cold), it will suffer scatches but basically will last forever ! Some manufacturers coat them to give a longer lasting finish (eg Duratect by Citizen)

    Some people say 40% of the watch is made in China and 60% of the watch is made in Switzerland.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Yeah I think I would be one of those "people" :)
      In reality the cost breakdown can be deceptive... the requirement is that 60% of the cost of making the watch is incurred in Switzerland... hence if you have to pay a "master" $1000 to put in the last few touches... there you go.

    • @syndicatedsatellite7288
      @syndicatedsatellite7288 4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@PerthWAtch $1000 bucks on paper, but $50 bucks in reality... is an additional question.
      Throwing in a Swiss Made movement helps add up that 60% too.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Haha yeah. Well the movement isn’t an option... to get the “Swiss made” label the movement must be a Swiss movement, with similar loopholes on what defines that.

    I recently received my Axios Ironclad after over seven months of waiting and don't think I would trade it for one of these even at 25 percent of the price. It has the same movement that is gaining less than one second per day.
    Also not sure in actual use Titanium is a better choice than scratch resistant, hard coated, stainless steel other than weight reduction ? Makes me wonder where the additional $1,200 is going?
    BTW, I have a CW C70 with COSC quartz that I really enjoy.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for sharing that - well I guess as a start Axios really needs to compete on specs, and they sure have been successful in doing that. CW can charge more due to being somewhat established, but I do still the asking price here remains rather steep. "Swiss Made" no doubt adds some degree of cost of course.

    • @crvols
      @crvols 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Agree with what you said but, in that price range I want to see a storied brand name on the dial, swiss or not. I get "to each their own" but my satisfaction comes from the value my purchase yields. If there was some uniqueness to the design (like my C70) it might warrant the higher price but, I don't see it. As to 1,000 meters? The only satisfaction seems to be that at that depth your watch will be keeping time while they are searching for your body. Ha!

    I have the exact same model of this watch, I like it a lot. this is a good solid review of it. well done mate.
    speaking of this watch, it's not exactly the piece that earns a lot of my wrist time, yet theres always a special place for it in my heart. however... seeing the recent release of the mass production units of the trident, it kinda put me off a little bit as back then, barely a year ago, the blue orange combo was reserved for the elite trident only as limited version. it sold out quick. now upon the great response, CW decided to remake and mass produce the limited version all over again, with an open caseback and sw300 with day complication..... for about the same price.....
    not that I like seeing the unsurprising sw movement, nor do I prefer having the day shown on the dial, I dont as a matter of fact, but..... i cant help feeling I was being made a guinea pig.

    • @PerthWAtch
      @PerthWAtch  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for sharing your experiences... I would also prefer just the date myself, and can do without the display in lieu of the nice stamped case back. All for slightly cheaper than the production model price... and the hope that the limited edition might appreciate in value :)

      Ric Chrono It is annoying when any watch brand does the limited and then unlimited release shortly after. Unfortunately it seems like they’re all doing it when they get a hit. Blame omega?! Of course they Also release endless Variants Of the same watch And call them anniversary or limited or tribute or reissue on and on and on... Seco is the worst as far as limited releases. Many of theirs never even hit the open market and by the time they’re available flippers are asking A premium for a watch that was already over priced. Then Seiko Will turn around and release an unlimited version, slightly downgraded, at a fraction of the price. Maybe Christopher Ward is just the ‘least-worst’ 😂😂😂

      Ric, I also have the limited. I know what you mean. But love the fact that its date only. And love the fact that there are only 300 of them. Take some solace in that. Slight difference, but still more rare.

    Have to admit that the Christopher Ward watches are very nice and seem to be a good value for what you get, but they have to do something about putting their full name on their watches which have 14 letters in their name, use a logo or initials, or shorten it to Ward, but that name is a turnoff bigtime.
