Great stuff. Maybe I'll see you on the road one day. I've cancelled retirement in Indonesia because of the expense, as you have to use an agent because of the complexity of the whole process.
My plan is to retire in Cambodia and use my agent in Indonesia for a social visit visa 6 months of the year to visit my Indonesia friends.
    Glad I found your site.

Hi Martin, thanks for this! We just made a video about cost of living in Siem Reap - it's good to compare as we love the Kampot/Kep area as well.

Than you for your comment. I am hoping to get up that way sometime next year.

Martin, what a beautiful beach to swim at! As someone whose financial goals are motivated by a love of travel, I love learning about the costs associated with living in different parts of the world. Great breakdown, I'm excited to see more, I just subscribed!

Yes. Apparently there is an even better one known as Secret Beach a few kilometres down the coast, not to mention all the offshore islands stretching from Vietnam to Thailand. A lovely part of the world, and affordable.

Yes, glorious. There is another a little way down the coast which is supposed to be better. Haven't been there yet.

Thanks, very good guide. Kampot & Kep are probably the best places in Cambodia to settle as now in Sihanoukville it went all wrong.
Just one thing, the water is not as transparent as in Koh Rong. Is that because of the river in Kampot?

Thankyou, it certainly is nice here. Have only spent an about an hour in Kampot, may go and have a look around there in a couple of weeks - have heard a lot of good things about Kampot..

@@martinrumsby I've only been there for a couple of times, but Bokor Hill is certainly a place to visit.

Hi Martin, just subscribed, love to know more about Cambodia.. I have been planning to retire in Phillipines or Vietnam but now I am looking at Cambodia..
Not sure about AUD to US dollar, maybe more expensive than living in Vietnam or Phillipines...

Cambodia is slightly more expensive than Vietnam but still good value. The people are good and there is a lot on offer and much variety. It depends on what you are interested in. Overall, an interesting place with good people. Food is abundant, fresh, flavourful and affordable. Really, the sky is the limit. I did see a basic (windowless) room in Phnom Penh for $80 a month, $200 a month will get you a single room with aircon, TV, internet etc, not sure if rent includes utiolities. Phone plans are cheap and the internet is good. Basically, you should be able to live comfortably on $A1,000.00 a month.

There are ares which are western - they cost more and Cambodian areas. The best deal i heard of was from a friend who went to live in a village 40kms out of Hanoi for $US40.00 a month. Alternately, one can stay in a Vin Homes development which is no different from a very nice, upmarket western area - swimming pools, fast food, flash restaurants, excellent infrastructure, parks etc but for that you are probably looking at rents of around $US2000.00 a month.

It can be done and this is a beautiful part of the world too. Many things to explore here too. A good place to ride out the pandemic. (No discernable community transmission in Cambodia for some months now).
