    Thank you. I practice serves 2-3 times a week. Usually a box for back-spin pendulum, a box for top-spin pendulum and a box to attempt reverse back-spin, which is a difficult beast.
    Tried to apply your suggestions today.
    I was aware about grip but struggled to take the bat back after serve, tried to figure a bit more relaxed grip still allowing me to ungrip on time and moved contact point to the side instead of front. Serves became much snappier. I was still able to make them half-long with 2nd bonce on the back-line but the ball became faster and spinnier.
    Still mostly side and side-top and no consistent back-spin, maybe a subtle one 1 of 10 balls.
    I slowed down with the last dozen of balls, tried this and that and finally I felt how to produce back spin. Still lots of practice is needed but finally I began feeling it after this video.
    Cheers.

      Excellent work! These things take time, 1% improvements here and there. By the end of the year, the serve becomes 30-40% better, that’s a significant improvement (delayed gratification)!

    When we play more intermediate/advanced players, how can we disguise between the Regular Pendulum and the Reverse Pendulum... That is a key input which would have been the cherry on top of this excellent video tutorial!

    • @TheTableTennisServiceGuy
      @TheTableTennisServiceGuy  3 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      Hmm, good question. Possible to do but not something I use very often. Instead, I think it’s better to focus on variety with the techniques. For example, can you serve lots of different spins with the reverse pendulum? If you can, then you don’t need to disguise things between pendulum to reverse pendulum.

    Thank you Craig. Great video. Question on ball toss position and impact point on paddle and which point of body? On video looks as you are slightly bending forward..the ball is tossed close to your right side under armpit and point of ball and paddle first brush is right side of rib case. Another question is brush underside of ball ? Thank you.

    • @TheTableTennisServiceGuy
      @TheTableTennisServiceGuy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Yes, the contact is slightly to the right of my body. I like to contact the underside of the ball yes, I find it slows the ball down, which gives me more control and more opportunity to disguise the ball

      Hello fellow doubles fan! For doubles you could turn more to face the table rather than side-on.
      A word of caution though, any reverse spin in doubles is going to pull the receive back towards you, not to your partner, unless you are lefty, or they are.
      I don’t have an example handy of a pro doing this serve in doubles, but in the Day 4 top points of Singapore Smash 2024 video you can see Bernadette Szocs use a tomahawk serve to pull the ball towards her lefty partner.

    What are pros/cons of the reverse pendulum serve compared to the backhand serve?

    • @TheTableTennisServiceGuy
      @TheTableTennisServiceGuy  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Con: It’s awkward and tricky skill to develop.
      Pro: It’s easier to conceal your bat (so they don’t see angles etc)
      Pro: It’s possible to change into other techniques from that position
      There are individual things to take into account. Some people find it easier to serve reverse pendulum and can create more spin. That makes it a pro for them.
      Others find it very difficult, that’s makes it a con for them.

  • @MahmoodElnasser

    I know I'm in a minority here but have you any suggestions for having to serve one handed. Due to a m/cycle accident I have to hold the ball and bat with just my right hand which limits my range of serves. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

    • @TheTableTennisServiceGuy
      @TheTableTennisServiceGuy  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I would say that the most common thing I see, is the pendulum serve. Pinch the bat with index finger and thumb, then you can use the 3 fingers to hold the ball. If you throw the ball slightly higher, that’ll give you a little more time to get your fingers back on the handle.
      Then, you can use all the potential varieties that come with the pendulum serve. I’ve done a tutorial on this too, maybe worth having a look.
      Perhaps possible with the backhand serve too but you would have to release the ball out the back of your fingers.
      Good luck 👍
