    Yes you can. The foam bodies are also available in different shapes and sizes that are better suited to freshwater species, the build techniques are exactly the same.

    Really cool. I Used to make popper like that out of cork when I was a kid.

    If you find while using epoxy that your flies have rough spots and bubbles, switch from 5 min epoxy to devcon 2 ton. Takes a while to dry but looks much better. :) great tutorial. I cannot wait to try it out.

    Very thorough, a joy to watch! i'll be trying my hand at some poppers i think :)

    You absolutely can. They look a little different that way, like they've been put on later, but still fine. You still really need to watch out for the edges lifting.

    Tightline, great looking poppers. I find that the Copic is tacky for a couple few hours but dry pretty solid after that. I'm no chemist but seems like alcohol would evaporate even on a slick surface. I coat my hard foam poppers with Gesso and then give a coat or two of acrylic paint in Metallic Pearl color. With the transluency of the markers, the sheen of the metallic pearl gives a nice effect to the bug. Don't know if its these base coats or not but I haven't had a problem with the drying.

    Great looking popper. Do you think a scooped out face is useful or is to hard to cast?......Thanks

    would this popper have enough weight for casting?

    nice popper... looks way better than mine ended up but it definitely worked... although it is a pain in the ass to cast.

    Are you gonna make some salt-water fishing videos soon? I'd love to see that popper in action.

    I really don't understand why you cannot wait until after the 5 minute epoxy to put on the stick on eyes, and then cover them over with more when you attach the tail. It seems a lot of work to put them on and tape them. Just a thought. All the best, Sean

    do you have to use some sort of primer for the popper bodies first., before your color coats?? I don't want it to soak in and look like crap.. thankyou ...

    The copic airbrush system is quite affordable, only about $35-$40. However, the copics themselves are not. They are high quality alcohol markers. A 12 pack is about 100 bucks. You can buy other not great alcohol markers for really cheap, but copic is the orvis of markers

    I bet you could use uv cure resin for the body finish

    • @tightlinevideo
      @tightlinevideo  8 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I've tried it and it works quite well. It however is way to expensive to be practical for covering such large areas as a popper (at least for me). I'll stick with epoxy until I win the lottery.

      Google search pulls up a good number of sources, as well as Amazon, Ebay and many local art stores. For those who didn't find one three years ago. ;)

    • @spanky8532
      @spanky8532 11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Ummm.... The eyes wouldn't adhere as well on a painted surface versus on the actual foam....

    • @joshyoung1623
      @joshyoung1623 11 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      im sure with Loctite or zap a gap it would adhere just fine.
