Living in Thailand March 2020, What are the Changes?

  • In this episode we visit a Lotus Supermarket, among other places, and try to document the changes going on in the struggle to keep everyone safe and healthy. At the gas station we realize about a thirty percent reduction in the price of fuel. Around the neighborhood there are changes in effect almost everywhere we look in the interest of protecting the public and the beach sees it's lowest number of guests, possibly ever. Enjoy the Ride!

I just came back from a 2 week trip to Thailand (Phuket/Bangkok). All the tourist hotspots suddenly became so quiet, it had a really weird feel to it..
I feel worried about the economic consequences related to the virus as the poor won't have any income for an undetermined period. This potentially can lead to more deaths (in developing countries) than the virus itself.

Hello, from California. Thank you for the update! I'm certainly hoping things calm down sooner than later, but I'm just trying to be optimistic. Things are crazy here in the U.S.
Already have my plane ticket back to Thailand for this coming November, and really crossing my fingers I'll be able to make that trip a reality. Take good care, and stay safe. 🙏

But wil the tourists come back after the world wide lockdown is over? Millions in North America and Europe are bancrupt, and when peopel must cut down on costs, travel will be the first to go. And the tourist industry is the most important industry in Thailand, if this stop travel I do not dare to think about how hard it will hit Thailands people, one can only hope the best.

I'm an Englishman living in Spain and marrying a Thai girl so keep my nose to the ground on all three counties, and I must say Thailand has jumped in really quickly with control, the figures are pretty low for a tourist orientated country especially as they get a lot of Chinese. I had a crazy experience. I have some nice Thai friends and a Thai Girlfriend. I had enough to drink. Soi new Plaza was dark and close. I saw a lady I know. Was so sad. Not first for me, I felt so sorry for the people here try to earn some money. Off course the place was depression. Same Soi Buakhao. Dark and closed. I had some great fun, sounds crazy. Had big fun with some Russian's at the Saswadee Siam. Crazy fun. Some bars were half open, there was an evening where they closed those big metal closures. And I want to get out, my girlfriend was already out. Laughing. Police gets us out in an other bar. So i had a great big fun. Now I thinking back, seeing Soi 7 in Jomtien closed, I feel not so good. The lady in new Plaza, pfffff. Bizarre, without my Thai friends... I was lucky I could fly back, 10 hours later then planned. I not realized at the time, but now. My eyes are wet. For all those nice Thai people. Trying to make a baht. And also, this was fucking crazy. If you drinking a lot, hm, go little past you. Or grape you. Now I see the darkness more, strange. By the way , same my country.

Opposite of attitude from western country.
If you don't wear a mask in public , you will get criticize , because if you infected , you can spread virus to others.
Everyone should wear a mask when they go outside to public place.
Even inside their home , Thai gov suggest that should wear a mask and stay away from each other at least 2 meters. If someone infected , it will not spread in family.

Price of a barrel of oil has plummeted to $21......Russian and Saudi willing to let it fall to put a lot of American shale drillers out of business. Enjoy the fallout ;)

Trump won't let that happen. He'll subsidise to keep them in business!
It's pretty obvious from the fallout from Wuhan Flu that having your manufacturing capability in house, in your own country is the preferred option!

Oil price drop is partly no demand, more so Saudi and other producers all met (OPEC) to discuss cutting production to keep prices high, normally they would and continue ripping us all off, however Russia said nah we'll keep producing the same amount so Saudi's reacted by saying FU basically and cutting the price by 30USD a barrel overnight and ramping up production.

NOT being a know it all.. but MAYBE during this time where people can't work, it's cheaper / subsidized by the government to help the average person.. like the US money the US gov is sending people in April to help with expenses?
Thanks for the videos.. Curt in San Diego, hoping to be in Thailand in a few months, once they allow Americans.. but we may not be welcomed for a long time?

Oil price has fallen from $60 a barrel to $22 west Texas crude.
Russia and Suad Arabia fell out a few weeks back..
And Suadi Arabia said they would increase production
Thailand is saving $billions on it import bill.
Second point the Dollar $ has gone up from 30 bht to 32 but..
And demand for oil this month is the lowest on record..as 800 million cars are sat in the drive way at home..

32.5 ThB = $1 USD. Good times may be ahead with the ThB rising/ falling against the USD (Chaiyaphum had their first 2 cases, both returning home from their jobs in Bangkok) I think Thailand has done an amazing job thus far. Hoping all that precaution has a good impact on the final tally. That ThB rise is a pretty steep tall spike so far. (Cheers!)
