I really appreciate this video because I always have to throw out potatoes that have spoiled. Thank you so much. Now I can buy more and freeze them. I already learned from you how to freeze carrots. Saves time and money. Thanks so much.👍👍
Thank you so much for this video. I can buy 10 lbs. of potatoes for .99 on sale. Certainly much cheaper than 1 bag bag of frozen. I make a baked potato soup in the pressure cooker that uses them frozen. Saving lots of money with this great recipe. Thanks, D
Thank you for teaching how to do this,I often wondered how in the world I was going to save all the potatoes that I buy before they get spoiled. Now, I can go save the potatoes!! Awesome video!! Thank you so much!!
Hi Jill, thank you very much for making this "no fluff or fillers" video, and I love your apron! Will you share with us where you got it? I have a 'utility pan' also, 40 years old and still going strong. I subscribed, and I hope to see many more videos especially now that the food crisis is very real. I have a farm, I can or freeze my entire garden, but I'm always interested in learning new things. Bless your generous heart!
Hello Ocean Soul, thanks for your kind words. I use my freezer like a crazy person. My husband tells me he can't shove onr more thing into it. 😉 The ability to freeze potatoes is wonderful. I freeze little chunks, fries, and mashed. I bought my apron several years from a kitchen shop. It's an April Cornell apron. I've copied the website address for you: www.aprilcornell.com/prod_detail_list/table-linens-kitchen. Hope you enjoy the website. It's got beautiful items.
@@Jill4Today Thank you so much! I can relate, I just bought another freezer. With all the worries about supply from my hay man and the farmers out here in Eastern CO, I like being "stocked to the gills!" Enjoy your 4th!
Thanks for posting the link to the Mueller. So many channels rave about a product, but don't tell you what model it is, sometimes not even mention the brand. I have a Vidalia Chop Wizard but am not happy with the size of the large dicer. The Mueller looks perfect and I used your link to order one. Months later since you posted this, potato prices are getting worse. I've been dehydrating Russets. I'd rather not use Yukons for freezing, but if as you say they crumble, I don't want to waste my time with Russets. Thanks so much for this video - very timely for me.
I hope you'll like yours. I'm very very happy with the way it cuts. I've not gotten around to using all of the other attachments, but the ones I have used, work really well.
Great idea jill, so true some foods are scarce and expensive, car fuel astronomical.I like that you find the importance of organic i try to get on special, you gave me idea to freeze savings no wastage Bonus!🤗

Hello from my homestead in northwest Florida! . My potatoes in my garden are coming in and I have so many! I have 35 rows of three different kinds, yellow, red, and white. I been looking at videos to freeze my potatoes and your video popped up in my recommended videos.
Thank you so much for this video. This going to save me from throwing out potatoes that have gone bad. I like your colander, can I ask were you got it? I've never seen one like that before.
Thank you for the technique! I had a difficult time freezing potatoes. They’d always would end up brown and I’d have to discard them. Great tips and tricks! Can you be my Mimaw? 🥰🌹💕 😉 But seriously, love you very much! Kindest regards, Lisa
To clean your cookie sheet: If you have a self-cleaning oven, put your pan in the oven and set your over to self-clean. I've done that. I have done the same thing with cast iron pans. Works great!
Highly recommend not doing this. They are not made for that type of heat. You can use some scent free oven cleaner, let it sit 2-5minutes and wipe it clean.
Just oven cleaner! Don't use self clean cycle on your stove. It can destroy electronics in the stove control panel. Ironically, stove makers never really figured out how to make this function safe
@@judywho2249 hi, I wrote back the other day. The potatoe will last atleast 6 months. I have some that are almost a year old and they are still very good.
Hi! Yes, you can fry them. I've not sliced them thinly. But wedges certainly can be baked in the oven or fried. I'd suggest frozen. Just be really careful if you use oil....the frozen potatoes will spit oil when placed in hot fat. Hope that helped
4/27/24: Hi Jill. I thoroughly enjoyed your video and am going to do it today. I have loads of potatoes, more than I know what to do with and don't believe in wasting food, so I came across your channel and this technique looks pretty cool. My question is, after they've been frozen and I take them out to use, should I thaw them out first before cooking in the oven, or frying in oil, or adding to a sauce or soup recipe? Thanks a bunch!
Do they hold shape? Im wanting to freeze potatoes and they not come out grainy and watery and mushy. Can i make mashed potatoes with your method or fry potato cakes? Thank you.
@Memyselfandamy I've not had them come out mushy. I always freeze them, and then cook them still frozen. Baking them is the best way to cook them. If you're concerned, try a couple as a sample to see if the final results meet with your liking
@Memyselfandamy Great! Do a sample batch. Then you'll know if these potatoes are what you want. Please, let me know. I'd like your response and comments
Thanks for the tutorial. I did everything and forgot to flash freeze them! I'll just have to let them thaw. My grandson brought me a 50 pound bag of potatoes for 8 dollars. They're russets but had to try. Heard russets were not good for canning so froze them.
I've not tried just the skins. You'd need to bake the spuds so you could scoop them out. I'm wondering if the baking would be enough "processing." Give it a try with one potato and see how it works
Hi! I was asked that before. I don't see why not. If it were me, I'd do a sample with one potato. Do the processing as in my video, then freeze the potato for a week. Prepare it as you want then taste it and see if it meets your needs. Hope that helps
I do rub a little olive oil on the potatoes and add the herbs or spices of my choice. I air fry them just like you'd do the spuds you get from the store. Hope it helps
I'd par boil until tender. Drain them well because after freezing the spuds can retain water. You might even return the drained potatoes back to pot and let them dry our a bit on a low heat before mashing. Hope this helps
Curious to know why you put the spuds on a cookie sheet to freeze them instead of just putting them in the baggie and freezing. Is it just so that they don't stick to each other? And the other question that I have is can this be done with sweet potatoes? A friend brought over a couple of cuttings from her sweet potato plants and they're doing great, so I would imagine that I'll have lots of them come harvest time.
You are right about the freezing first on the cookie sheet. They will stick together and be really difficult to get apart. Been there, done that. Regarding sweet potatoes. I don't see why that would not work. I'd sure give it a go.
I have a question.. You can actually pan fry them just like if you want to fry potatoes without them being mushy?? I want fry potatoes without the mushy part???? I hope that i am explaining that right??? .. Thanks!!
We've never had the prob of mushy potatoes. Get your pan good and hot before adding the oil. Add the potato frozen. Watch out for the spatter from the cold spuds against the hot oil. I hoped you'll be pleased.
Do you think canned potatoes that came unsealed would be able to be frozen. The potatoes were cooked for 20 minutes and I canned them. They came unsealed. I don't want them to waste.
Hi, I looked it up, and I've seen both Russet and Yukon gold. I've never made gnocchi, so I'm no expert. Do a Google search and I'm sure you'll find some recipes
@@Jlzx08 they turned red? I've never seen this happen before. I'm not sure what to say. I will do some studying up and see if I can find some explanation for you. Thanks for letting me know
I think one of the problems with freezing whole potatoes is that potatoes really do need blanching before freezing. You'd never get a whole potato processed correctly and I think once you defrosted/cooked it the poor thing would be mush. But, heck, give it a try. It'd be worth sacrificing one potato to see how it works. Good luck if you do try it
