      @@stephen.s5089 I struggled a lot with the purple ninja in Hirata estate, good thing that this guy has exactly the same moveset so when I encountered him it wasn't a problem because I learned all his attack patterns by then. But because the camera is restrictive, it's good training for working on your timing, and not relying too much on dodges unless they're needed.
      I just beat Genichiro earlier. I found that staying very aggressive made the fight a lot easier, since if you give him too much breathing room he tries to use his bow a lot. But his second phase annoyed me because in the first phase you could Mikiri all his unblockables but in phase 2 he randomly either thrusts or does a sweep attack. Also didn't spam attack too much in phase 3 because if you're not ready for the lightning strikes, they freaking hurt.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  5 ปีที่แล้ว +72

      What's harder to convey is positioning. Enemies tend to have high percentage chances of doing certain attacks depending on your range and relative left/right position to them. They will also have higher chances of performing certain moves based on the moves you do. While they still have a lot of RNG to their actions, you can guide them to do what you want some of the time simply by staying on their right, or staying just at the tip of their sword range, or by moving beyond their range to a point that will instigate them running or leaping in, etc. I pretty much try to watch what they do when I do certain things, or when I move to certain spots, and then I try to repeat that allowing me to expect their moves a little better. Of course, this can get you into trouble if you expect a certain thing and they don't do it, so it's a juggling act of trying to bait them into what you want while not expecting them to completely listen.

    My strategy is to attack twice, then deflect his standing kick or standard slash. If he uses the aerial falling kick, pause for a little then dodge to the side. This should allow you to hit him twice (he likes to follow this one with a leg sweep but you can interrupt if you hit him). If he is using the aerial flurry kick, also dodge to the side. Keep in mind this is a flurry of kicks, so dodge more if you are in the way of the rest of the kicks. The final kick in the flurry is always the thrust kick, mikiri counter it for posture damage and follow up with another two attacks.
    This boss taught me to keep the pressure on even if the enemy can block you.

    • @enjoyer2227
      @enjoyer2227 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I'm sure you guys have won by now but I developed a way to cheese him:
      If you attack him, he'll probably follow up with a fast snapping kick or an upward slash from the sword, both of which are very fast, so you can deflect by blocking about half a second after you recover to build up posture, then follow with a single swipe for good measure. After the pattern is exploited enough, he'll immediately use a drop kick which is better to dodge than deflect. After the kick, he'll try to use a perilous attack which won't matter since you can hit him out of it.
      In other words, as long as you don't give the guy time to attack you first, this exploit should lead anyone to victory. (Also, stay away from the walls. They can mess up your dodge against the drop kick.

      Close to end game Spoiler:
      Those ninja types become mormal enemies and you have to fight a poison type and several at once. The one you fight in the hirata estate has the exact same moves the others will use besides the poison types. I suggest using him as a sparring partner amd he can seriously help you learn how to properly fight since he has very unpredictable moves at first.

  • @Kweesh
    @Kweesh 2 ปีที่แล้ว +15

    There's one very simple tip that helps a lot with this guy - each time you make a well-timed parry, make sure you follow up with a single counter attack with R1. Doing this rewards you for your parry by giving bonus posture damage. I suck at the game but got lone swordsman down quickly after realising this.

    1. When he charge on your left he always use 1 sword attack then the unblockable sweep kick, so you can ALWAYS cancel the unblockable sweep kick if you hit him right after you deflected the sword attack.
    2. When he go for the air kick attack at 0:42,2:28 he always folow with the same unblockable sweep kick in the previous situation. You can again cancel it if you dodge the air kick attack when he is higest and start to land, because if you do it too soon he can still folow you. At the moment he lands you should be behind him and you can always hit him and cancel whatever is starting to do. Dont do that next to the wall he might still hit you because you cant make full circle around him. As you can see in the video is harder, because he block the air kick at 2:28, then he dodge the unblockable sweep kick attack, instead you can dodge the first and cancel the 2nd with hits.
    3.When he attack on your right with sword he ALWAYS folow with sword attacks, its 2 or 3 hit combos.
    4. When you need heal better run away in the corridor, because probably you will die from him if you heal near him, he really like to attack when you heal.
    5. I found that too but its a bit hard to time, i did it by accident - Ichimonji Double is somehow counter to his air kick attacks and if timed while he is in the air it does big posture dmg and knock him on the ground.
    6. The most secure deflects are the his sword attack from left its always only 1 hit when he pass you, the sword attacks from right are aways 2 or 3 hits sometimes repeated and when he does full charge for mikiri its 4 kicks before you mikiri.
    7.Use dodge to circle to avoid near walls, dont jump around him its suicide.
    1. and 2. are the best to reduce time, avoid 100% the nasty sweep kick attack and do him 1 or 2 secure hits in both situations.

If you have enough of those little crosses you can just keep torching him or maybe you will have to fight him with the small amount of energy he will have left. • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Nope, this was never patched. He always had the sweep, but if you position yourself like I do in this video, he is less likely to do it if at all. The thing about Sekiro is enemies have counters to your attacks and positions. You can work out what triggers certain attacks by taking note of what you were doing at the time and what your position was. Also, if a posture bar recovers faster, it means you didn't parry correctly. In Sekiro a block means they can recover posture faster, a parry means they can't. As long as you parry with correct timing, it won't happen. Also, if you parry correctly, it doesn't matter if your own posture bar fills up. Your posture can't ever be broken no matter what if you parry correctly.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      His move at 1:53 is a mikiri counterable move. Mikiri works 2 ways - one, it will push down on the enemy attack, or two it will dodge the enemy attack. So at 1:53 I am doing the exact same thing as any mikiri counterable move - simply pressing dodge as the red kanji symbol fades away and the game then dictates which counter it will do.

    Btw you don't have to do all that hassle to get a stealth deathblow from him. Just run pass the 1st tunnel ... you will find a hole not so far from it. Jump off and stealth deathblow him. Another thing is, try to equip shuriken when you fight him, when he jump throw it or when he's too aggressive just throw it at him to reset

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, I pinned a comment about that (video is here: th-cam.com/video/0J9RIIbryo0/w-d-xo.html). Also, spam tapping block doesn't mean not deflecting. When you rapid-tap block you do it in the rhythm of the enemy attack, thereby increasing your deflection ratio. While tapping block you should be able to get a more than 80% deflection ratio just from spam-tapping once you get in tune with doing it. I can almost get a 100% deflection rate now from spam-tapping block. It just takes a little practice and thinking about enemy attacks as being like music, as in, they have a rhythm and you can tap along to it. It's kind of fun thinking about it that way.

    Very helpful video, thanks. I could never get singular parries and a counter out of this guy though. Pretty much had to parry entire 4-6 hit combos of kicks and sword attacks to get a mikiri counter. Then get a couple strikes in and repeat. I think I ended up using mist raven tool once or twice to beat him. Took some damage, but needed no healing. I wonder if their move sets depend on the amount of skills you have unlocked.

    • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Their movesets are actually quite reactionary, in that what they do depends on what you do, when you do it, and your position when you do it. All enemies work in the same way too. They have a reactionary AI so to speak. To follow a guide on how to beat an enemy you have to try to take note of everything you see in the guide and try to replicate it all pretty much exactly, including when to attack, when not to, and distance to stand etc. Making guides is tricky for Sekiro like that. Often someone will say, "He never does that for me!" and instantly I know that the player isn't doing what I'm doing in the video. That's why you'll see nearly all of my guides focus on counter attack strategies, as only with counter-attack strategies can you get enemies to pretty much repeat what you see in a guide. There's an exception though - full on aggressive strategies will also work, however, they require pinpoint timing and memory of enemy movesets to work. Speedrunners are usually the only players who have that level of aggressive play memory because they practice over and over and over.

    • @kirillivanov1874
      @kirillivanov1874 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@fuzzybearbarian Looks like their reactions are more intricate than I realize. • @fuzzybearbarian
      @fuzzybearbarian  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kirillivanov1874 For sure. I've never liked guides people post where it's just them beating a boss however they could that was their playstyle, only for them to post it later with the title "how to" in it. I try to make my guides for most players, so I play-test tons of different methods and pick the one I think will suit most people - and only after I can use that method to consistently no damage a boss. Takes more time though.

      Keep trying. I died to Genichiro so many times I couldn’t tell you the number. Eventually I was just fighting him for half an hour a night to see if I could take him. I started regularly getting him to his final phase and after I saw fuzzy’s video - explaining it so well - I realised trying the Mikiri counter was going to get me owned by him (after getting owned trying it 3 times). I’m just not good enough to pull that off. So I used a different prosthetic that suited me (gouging top). Killed Genichiro first time using the idea I came up with. But without fuzzy’s video I wouldn’t have had the idea.
      I’m About to knock of the longswordsman and the guardian ape now. Been really enjoying it since I realised I can do this (with help from fuzzy). By the way, if you’re freaking a bit turn off the sound. Helps you concentrate.

      spectro I am the world’s crappest player. I learned from fuzzybears video on Genichiro and came up with a way that turned out to be pretty easy. The trick - for me - was to get to the lightning phase and hit him with a gouging top as soon as he jumped the first time. Then I just parried until he did a lightning jump and I jumped and reversed the lightning. When you do that you can beat the crap out of him for ages. In the end it took me about 1 minute to kill him in the lightning phase. The first two phases of Genichiro were just patience - only hitting him when he did the thrust after the single arrow (although I also got pretty good at jumping on his head when he tried that swooping grab attack, but that’s just me)
      Ps I never play with the music. It annoys me. But when I’m in a bind I turn the sound completely off.
