MM.... I have given this much thought over my lifetime... As a singer and perpetually interested in voice, I have TRIED almost every way imaginable of vocalising ... I think of it, ie NOT using the throat, as having absolutely no +/- air pressure differential in your vocal tract... I'm not pushing air and I'm not inhaling it (that's one way to sing) ... seems to work for me. There are various styles of singing and vocalising that rely on either positive or negative pressure through your vocal tract, they're interesting to experiment with but not healthy as your 'every day driver' lmao edit: interestingly the unique castrati/unuch sound was obtained due to the cavernous chest/lung capacity they had and their ability to push such huge amts air over relative small/thin vocal folds! :D :D :D As a Hybrid vocalist, this is significant to me and my progression.
Sometimes people can’t hear me when I am speaking and they have to say “what” and it feels absolutely humiliating and demoralizing every single time. I’m hoping I can change that by watching some of your videos.
How ironic that a recording about speech sound quality has been made with totally irrelevant annoying music mixed in at low level. It should not be there at all. There is one other technical defect, ie a lack of HF response in the voice sound recording. It's a pity because this is a most interesting subject and you have so much to contribute. I think you should just make this recording again.
Hlo Jimmy Just a curious question I reckon in Standard british accent or modern RP Voice placement is back in throat and lower and tongue fairly relaxed. When producing vowel sounds resonance is back and down around chest area as well. I'd like to know what do you think?
Thanks Jimmy, why the forward voice placement is crucial? Is it for standard American and British as well? Most of US couches say their accent's placement is back and more low (sounds deeper) then other varieties of English. As for Souther Standard British, I've observed that in SSB all vowel sound can resonate better backwards, some little forward than other vowels but still these maintain backward resonance coz of open space in the back. Well, I'm don't know that much about voice I'm still doing research, exploring. I'd love to know what do you think Jimmy?
I can't avoid speaking like that. When I speak a little lauder my throat hurts and my head voice is quite weak. Can I fix it just practising with breathing exercises? It really makes me disturbed:(
Your throat hurts because you're pushing too much air over the vocal folds, so by controlling the air flow with correct abdominal breathing, you won't need so much air to create a sound. You'd have to send me a video of you speaking for me to determine what's going on with you head voice...
ive been testing around to focus on the back part of the throat and u get pretty decnet controll of you´re voice that way and for some weird reason u get better controll over your vocal cords when u focus on the back part of the throat

I noticed my voice changes when I breath while talking, hold my breath while talking, etc. What is the proper way to speak? 🥴 lol thank you 🙂
Thanks for your question and kudos. The reason probably you're experiencing dryness in your throat is because you're pushing too much air over your vocal folds. can help with this if you like?
When I speak my throat gets uncomfortable and feels tight, and people say I speak quietly. Could you provide some advice to help me with my voice issues? I also have trouble with resonance. But when I'm relaxed I have a deep and resonating voice and my throat feels relaxed.
I think you've hit the nail on the head there... You should try and be as relaxed as you can when you speak, especially in the throat area... (Larynx) However it's difficult to ascertain what's going on without hearing you...

It could be Globus Pharyngeus (I wrote an assignment on this for my masters), which sounds pretty bad but actually is normally caused by reflux. I would consult your doctor. let me know how you get on...
Yes, it is the particles in the air that create the sound, but first, there needs to be some form of vibration from the vocal folds (cords) this is called phonation. This phonation comes from the throat, however, can be directed to different resonant areas such as the oral cavity.
Hey man, I speak from the throat but if I focus I can speak from my belly. But when I talk to a person it automatically changes to my throat. How can I prevent this from happening?
When you speak, your habitual phonation will occur. . Practising supporting the breath from your belly, and creating sub-glottal pressure will help to take the strain away from your throat. It's a bit difficult to explain here..
Exercises to take the resonance away from your throat. The more you practice these ones and others, the more likely the muscle memory will impact the change and you won't continue to speak from your throat.

Hi Michal, I'm speaking predominantly about resonance here, and finding what is known as chest voice (not to be confused with modal voice which is your normal speaking voice), which is a sympathetic vibration of sound in the chest cavity. There are plenty of exercises that help you find that chest 'resonance'. Hope that helps, can be rather confusing..

I know I have a speech impediment mostly due to the letter R, but speaking from the diaphragm I can hear myself more clearly
That's great news. To be slightly geeky, you don't actually speak with (or from) the Diaphragm. The diaphragm contracts on the in-breath to allow the lugs to expand and take in oxygen, but it's your Abdominus muscles that help to push the diaphragm back up to push the air out. What you want to focus on is taking the energy away from the throat (Larynx) allowing you to find more resaonance. Happy to chat...

Okay so, im 17 and my voice is pretty deep, even sometimes in ashmed of it, because if someone ask me for something, and i give a simple answer, i sound kinda mean and scary with the deep voice (im not mean i just answer without thinking it) And i began to punish my voice to sound not that deep, maybe not deep at all, just because sometimes when i speak, i sound rude and scary. And i think i speak from my head, like that little head voice when you think of something, and i speak with it, instead of speaking from the throat (when i speak from the throat, my voice is deep like before but i feel some vibration from it) Also i want to say that, before with my gf, we tended to speak each other with soft voices (Its the same voice i speak when i punished it so it wont sound rude) And it become like a habit, even she has that habit sometimes too. And i want to ask, if i developed a habit about talking with a soft voice, how do i change it in order to sound like my previous deep voice before? Im very concerned, bc i want to speak with my normal deep voice, but i think the soft voice became a big habit, and sometimes like i said, i punish it without thinking too. Hi, how do I know if I’m speaking from my throat or not, my throat hurts when I speak for more than 10 seconds and my voice is just not loud and clear enough. What can I do to improve the way I speak?
Hi Adam, well firstly your voice really shouldn't be hurting after 10 seconds of speaking, that's for sure... which means that either you're pushing too much air over your vocal folds (not supporting your breath correctly), or your larynx is bunched up and too strained, which could be a somatic response, possibly MTD. thank you i was wondering why my throat hurts when i speak lol and didn’t like how my voice sounds, but now trying to speak “from chest”
holy crap, I tried to do falsetto while doing chest or abdomen resonance and it's impossible, this is brilliant!
It's not impossible... You're creating a TA (thyroarytenoid) dominant phonation and your larynx is low, so yes pretty difficult 😋
i always feel like there’s something in my throat and my voice cracks a lot since i speak in a lower tone when i shouldn’t. it’s uncomfortable
I would suggest that you visit your doctor to establish whether there’s any issues. I wouldn’t worry however, it’s probably somatic, and sounds like it could be Globus Pharyngeus (or lump in the throat) which is generally caused by reflux. Let me know how you get on.

Thanks. I'm not a clinician unfortunately, although a lot of my exercises would help.
There are various styles of singing and vocalising that rely on either positive or negative pressure through your vocal tract, they're interesting to experiment with but not healthy as your 'every day driver' lmao
edit: interestingly the unique castrati/unuch sound was obtained due to the cavernous chest/lung capacity they had and their ability to push such huge amts air over relative small/thin vocal folds! :D :D :D As a Hybrid vocalist, this is significant to me and my progression.
This is why I transitioned into public speaking... but good luck x

Hlo Jimmy
Just a curious question
I reckon in Standard british accent or modern RP
Voice placement is back in throat and lower and tongue fairly relaxed.
When producing vowel sounds resonance is back and down around chest area as well.
I'd like to know what do you think?
You're right, although it depends on the vowel. Also, forward placement is crucial. Have a listen to Tom Hiddleston
Thanks Jimmy, why the forward voice placement is crucial? Is it for standard American and British as well? Most of US couches say their accent's placement is back and more low (sounds deeper) then other varieties of English. As for Souther Standard British, I've
observed that in SSB all vowel sound can resonate better backwards, some little forward than other vowels but still these maintain backward resonance coz of open space in the back.
@@jimmycannonvoicecoach Thank you so much I'm going to try

How do I stop breathing through my mouth while talking? I noticed my voice changes when I breath while talking, hold my breath while talking, etc. What is the proper way to speak? 🥴 lol thank you 🙂
Thanks for your question and kudos. The reason probably you're experiencing dryness in your throat is because you're pushing too much air over your vocal folds. can help with this if you like?
The beard game is strong in this one 😁
When I speak my throat gets uncomfortable and feels tight, and people say I speak quietly. Could you provide some advice to help me with my voice issues? I also have trouble with resonance. But when I'm relaxed I have a deep and resonating voice and my throat feels relaxed.
I think you've hit the nail on the head there... You should try and be as relaxed as you can when you speak, especially in the throat area... (Larynx) However it's difficult to ascertain what's going on without hearing you...
@@jimmycannonvoicecoach I'm relaxed now because I'm by myself, but how do I keep my throat relaxed

Please when talking there shd be an air within our mouth right? Bcos without that the sound waves bring that speak from the throat
Yes, it is the particles in the air that create the sound, but first, there needs to be some form of vibration from the vocal folds (cords) this is called phonation. This phonation comes from the throat, however, can be directed to different resonant areas such as the oral cavity.

Okay so, im 17 and my voice is pretty deep, even sometimes in ashmed of it, because if someone ask me for something, and i give a simple answer, i sound kinda mean and scary with the deep voice (im not mean i just answer without thinking it)
And i began to punish my voice to sound not that deep, maybe not deep at all, just because sometimes when i speak, i sound rude and scary.
And i think i speak from my head, like that little head voice when you think of something, and i speak with it, instead of speaking from the throat (when i speak from the throat, my voice is deep like before but i feel some vibration from it)
Also i want to say that, before with my gf, we tended to speak each other with soft voices (Its the same voice i speak when i punished it so it wont sound rude)
And it become like a habit, even she has that habit sometimes too.
