The only way to possibly make the PS5 slim run quieter is to get an aftermarket lower RPM fan, but the downside will be an increase in heat. Other than that, I'm never letting go of my PS5 fat.

Fact is that the loudest PS5 console i had so far was the Slim with Delta fan. Sony improved it over time. Its a lottery on every component. We would need to test 100 consoles to be more accurate with the results. So far i had a lot of fat consoles and 2 Slims. One slim was unacceptable and the 2nd is okay i think. We will see after checking the foxconn RPM and maybe temps.

The slim must be louder and in way it can be quieter, you ask me why? The answer so simple: physics! Same APU chip with same power = same heat would be produced! And putting it in smaller case with smaller heat dissipation materials means the fan should spin faster = louder noise. Fix? Simply as Sony did on all previous slim models, replacing the APU with better and efficient chip, so less heat would be produced and less fan speed and power would be needed= quieter Console. Why sony didn’t do that already? Cause they don’t want to wait and cut the cost no matter what! Sony thought louder console shouldn’t be an issue. If I were on position in Sony, I wouldn’t go cheap and would waited till the 4 or 3 nano APU be available and shipped the console with it already. So we would have gotten at least the same level of noise as the Fat if not quieter. I am sure during 2024 we will get a revision of the Slim with replaced APU built on 3 nano tech.

@@MKBUHDD some people say that their slim starts to speed up the fan and reduce it again after some time. So it is getting hotter and it has to increase the fanspeed. That did not happen to me on my fat models. Only when i unplugged the fan or put them in olaf mode the PWM jumped from 18% to 22%. The fat was always able to stay cool enough. Maybe there are some slim fans that are just not spinning fast enough with 18% PWM.

Hello, i bought the ps5 slim (CFI-2016) and it had a NMB fan wich was very loud since it makes the covers or something else in the ps5 vibrate, (at least thats my guess) which is causing a very loud and high pitch noise. I returned it and got a new one, again, NMB fan with the same issue. The fan noise itself isnt bothering, only that it vibrates at a sertain amount of RPM, and creates that high pitch. (it isnt coil whining, when I press on the ps5 it gets way quieter or stops completely) Is there any way to fix this with rescrewing the fan? If yes, is there any tip on how to use these weird shaped screws? I dont think that i have a fitting screwdriver for them at home. Any tips, or do I just have to have luck with replacing it again?

I can also confirm that the PS5 slim is making more noise when gaming. I was lucky that i could buy a brand new PS5 1200 from someone that never opened/used it so i had the possibility to compare. On the dashboard the slim was little bit more silent but then we are speaking about a distance less than 1 meter. But once you are gaming the difference is there. When playing the last os us 2 i could hear the slim in the entire room (we are speaking about more then 8 meters). From the normal distance i play from it is sometimes louder than the sound of the game. Also at certain fan speeds it’s making the UFO noise. What is better on the slim is the coil whine noise or it’s overruled by the fan noise. On the other hand when playing the last of us 2 on the 1200 version there is some fan noise but you need to be at a distance less then 1 meter or listen very carefully with the game sound muted. So It never overrules the sound of the game and this fan doesn’t makes a UFO noise. What is more noticeable when getting very very close to the 1200 version is the coil whine. So my overall conclusion is that the slim is much louder and that i’m happy that i could returned it and have found a brand new 1200 one.

Hello I have slim and I think about return. From that sound whooom I am getting crazy. I tried measure it with two different apps and I getting around 54db. This is crazy.
I just bought the PS5 Slim.....louder than my PS4 with a high pitch whine. Driving me nuts! If I squeeze the top covers it sometimes lessens the noise but this is not what I bought into. Will get refund and try and buy a PS5 Fat as a friend said today he has no issues with his August 23 model. DB in game around 37dB but it is the whine that I don't like. TH-cam app is silent so only games when under load. As someone who got his fingers burnt with the original PS3 20gb overheating issues I don't want another duff console from Sony

I ordered a Foxconn fan from AliExpress and must have been faulty as it was running at full speed constantly as soon as I plugged the power cable into the PS5 Slim. Have you ever come across that? My original PS5 Slim fan has the annoying whine when I start a game and the speed ramps up a bit.
No not so far. Only some fake fans that ran at too low speeds. Your ps5 was turned off and it started spinning when connected? I know that the ps4 does not provide 12V to the fan when turned off. PS5 always provide 12V and the fan starts spinning when the pwm signal is provided. Maybe it is designed/programmed differently (like for the ps4) then needed for ps5. It expects the 12V and pwm to turn on at the same time and if the ps5 is off, the fan thinks that there is sth broken with the pwm and spins at fullspeed. (Safety future) What happens when you turn the ps5 on. Does it slow down? Maybe the wiring is wrong on the fan and this causes the behavior? Maybe it is broken. Put/screw the fan in and connect it, then turn the ps5 on and later off. How does it behave? Is it slowing down when ps5 is on and back to 100% when turned off, or is it fixed now?

No, they will not reduce the fan RPM. It needs to spin fast in order to cool the system properly. If they reduce the PWM duty cycle there is a risk of overheating, especially when its summer and the console gets dusty after some time. It will get louder over time if not cleaned. It's been about a week since I've gotten my PS5 Slim, just installed a dust screen mesh on the fan plates and vent plates for the extra airflow and an external fan snd usb to usb that is plugged in so I'm not drawing power from the console. The PS5 Slim is quiet, only when booting up a game it starts to ramp up but settles, also waiting on vent plate cover for the ssd for extra airflow. This is the PS5 Slim CFI-2015 model that I had gotten.
It depends on the fan you have. If you have a Nidec and switch to a delta it sill get quieter. I have the quietest one of all 4 slim fan models and its still loud compared to the PS5 fat fans.
@@windyalec i dont think that the fans are going to get quieter then the Delta i have. The problem with the slim is that there is nothing that reduces the sound that is coming from the fast spinning fan (airflow noise and so on). The PS5 Fat has some kind of grill at the front that helps a bit with noise reduction and the larger fans are spinning slower. The Slim does not have that. Maybe another PS5 Slim revision will improve the design a bit to reduce/spread/stop the noise. The heatpipes are probably already as good as they can get them, so not really much to improve there without adding weight to the system. Only thing that is left is to reduce the nm of the APU. If they shrink the APU on the Slim, tha fan will probably spin slower (if sony does not shrink the heatsink with it) I can not tell you if it is safe to use the fan of a console model that is not out jet inside an older model. Maybe, maybe not. We will see. Sony is trying to cut costs and i guess that we will see a PS5 superslim in 1-2 years. We will see how silent the cfi 21 and 22 will be. I guess/hope the 22 will be okay.
Just got a ps5 slim CFI-2016A and it runs really silently. Only while installing something from a disk, it start to be clearly audible. Still, the don't exceed a PS3 or a PS4 during that process . I can't say wich fan there's inside. Honestly, completly satisfied. Need to check how it'll behave during summer period now.

No worry of noise disturbance at 6 feet from the ps5, until a disc start to turn obviously.

@@fabh.3976 this info does not help. If its hotter outside it does not mean that the APU for example is also hotter. Maybe one of them is better at transfering the heat outside. Imagine what hapens if you put a piece of plastic instead of the liquid metal inbetween the APU and the heatsink. The console is cold outside but the APU is overheating. Only with small probes we can measure it. With a jailbreak we should also be able to read the temp info of the components. Austin evans got s*itstormed because he measured like this guy. I don't know what he said because he talks in french. I bought my ps5 in release, a year ago it started overheating after 15 minutes of playtime, today my father put 2 extra computer fans behind it (really loud and it was blowing ALOT of air) but still it managed to overheat. We even opened it up and cleaned it . After everything the fan still spun Slowly . Any tips?

I bought a Japanese PlayStation V1200 and it says 100v. Does it support 230v? I saw in the video that the PlayStation 5 supports 100-240v. When you open the device, it says 100-127 220-240v. Is this true?

They only specialize on making fans, that’s why they make the most reliable fans out there. They are more energy efficient and spin more smoothy than the competition.

I just bought the PS5 Slim.....louder than my PS4 with a high pitch whine. Driving me nuts! If I squeeze the top covers it sometimes lessens the noise but this is not what I bought into. Will get refund and try and buy a PS5 Fat as a friend said today he has no issues with his August 23 model. DB in game around 37dB but it is the whine that I don't like. TH-cam app is silent so only games when under load. As someone who got his fingers burnt with the original PS3 20gb overheating issues I don't want another duff console from Sony

I ordered a Foxconn fan from AliExpress and must have been faulty as it was running at full speed constantly as soon as I plugged the power cable into the PS5 Slim. Have you ever come across that? My original PS5 Slim fan has the annoying whine when I start a game and the speed ramps up a bit.
No not so far. Only some fake fans that ran at too low speeds. Your ps5 was turned off and it started spinning when connected? I know that the ps4 does not provide 12V to the fan when turned off. PS5 always provide 12V and the fan starts spinning when the pwm signal is provided.
Maybe it is designed/programmed differently (like for the ps4) then needed for ps5. It expects the 12V and pwm to turn on at the same time and if the ps5 is off, the fan thinks that there is sth broken with the pwm and spins at fullspeed. (Safety future) What happens when you turn the ps5 on. Does it slow down?
Maybe the wiring is wrong on the fan and this causes the behavior?

No, they will not reduce the fan RPM. It needs to spin fast in order to cool the system properly. If they reduce the PWM duty cycle there is a risk of overheating, especially when its summer and the console gets dusty after some time. It will get louder over time if not cleaned. If you want a fan thats silent, in my experience foxconn was much quieter then Delta and its probably also quieter then NMB and Nidec.
I have to check the RPMs of the foxconn fan to be able to say something about cooling performance compared to delta.
Can not say anything about nmb and nidec so far.

It's been about a week since I've gotten my PS5 Slim, just installed a dust screen mesh on the fan plates and vent plates for the extra airflow and an external fan snd usb to usb that is plugged in so I'm not drawing power from the console. The PS5 Slim is quiet, only when booting up a game it starts to ramp up but settles, also waiting on vent plate cover for the ssd for extra airflow. This is the PS5 Slim CFI-2015 model that I had gotten.

It depends on the fan you have. If you have a Nidec and switch to a delta it sill get quieter. I have the quietest one of all 4 slim fan models and its still loud compared to the PS5 fat fans.

@@windyalec i dont think that the fans are going to get quieter then the Delta i have. The problem with the slim is that there is nothing that reduces the sound that is coming from the fast spinning fan (airflow noise and so on). The PS5 Fat has some kind of grill at the front that helps a bit with noise reduction and the larger fans are spinning slower. The Slim does not have that. Maybe another PS5 Slim revision will improve the design a bit to reduce/spread/stop the noise. The heatpipes are probably already as good as they can get them, so not really much to improve there without adding weight to the system. Only thing that is left is to reduce the nm of the APU. If they shrink the APU on the Slim, tha fan will probably spin slower (if sony does not shrink the heatsink with it)
I can not tell you if it is safe to use the fan of a console model that is not out jet inside an older model. Maybe, maybe not. We will see.
Sony is trying to cut costs and i guess that we will see a PS5 superslim in 1-2 years.
We will see how silent the cfi 21 and 22 will be. I guess/hope the 22 will be okay.

Just got a ps5 slim CFI-2016A and it runs really silently. Only while installing something from a disk, it start to be clearly audible. Still, the don't exceed a PS3 or a PS4 during that process .
I can't say wich fan there's inside.
Honestly, completly satisfied. Need to check how it'll behave during summer period now.

In fact, I have the feeling that the air is "expulsed" differently on the ps5 slim, based on the position of a rad+heatpipe near the front.
You should listen noise behind and at the top wide angle where the big fan spread the air imo. 🤔 Temperature measure all around the console totally differs between fat and slim.
No worry of noise disturbance at 6 feet from the ps5, until a disc start to turn obviously.

@@fabh.3976 this info does not help. If its hotter outside it does not mean that the APU for example is also hotter. Maybe one of them is better at transfering the heat outside. Imagine what hapens if you put a piece of plastic instead of the liquid metal inbetween the APU and the heatsink. The console is cold outside but the APU is overheating. Only with small probes we can measure it. With a jailbreak we should also be able to read the temp info of the components. Austin evans got s*itstormed because he measured like this guy. I don't know what he said because he talks in french. Only the ones with detachable drives. (Slim and porbably the Pro) (CFI-2xxx and CFI-7xxx)

I bought my ps5 in release, a year ago it started overheating after 15 minutes of playtime, today my father put 2 extra computer fans behind it (really loud and it was blowing ALOT of air) but still it managed to overheat. We even opened it up and cleaned it . After everything the fan still spun Slowly . Any tips?

I bought a Japanese PlayStation V1200 and it says 100v. Does it support 230v? I saw in the video that the PlayStation 5 supports 100-240v. When you open the device, it says 100-127 220-240v. Is this true?
As far as i know they all suport 100V~ JPN, 110V~ USA, and 230V~ Europe and so on..

Hallo, ja das tut sie. Man muss nur etwas aufpassen bei der m.2, da weniger Luft drüberzieht wenn man ein Loch in der Platte hat. Wenn man einen M.2 SSD Kühlkörper drauf hat ist alles gut. I have my day one release PS5 which came with a shitty nidec fan(ufo sound). Replaced it with a NMB fan that I've replaced on my own . No way I'm buying this slimer crap version.
