A Tibetan Fox and a Brown Bear hunting Pikas in the Himalayas

- Great footage of an opportunistic Tibetan Fox letting a bear do all the hard work of getting Pikas out of the frozen ground and grabbing one for itself. Also a great example of the fox stashing its food for a later date, a trait common to all foxes.

This is edited footage taken from the BBC's excellent Natural World series, narrated by David Attenborough. Footage used purely for educational purposes in showing typical behaviour of a fox.
That fox looks like one of those hilariously inaccurate Renaissance paintings of animals.
Best comment award!
It looks like fox is smiling honestly not your typical fox !
It DOES
Imagine a famous artist painting that during the Renaissance and that painting was the reason his career was ruined.
Plot twist, those painting are all photorealistic. The world really looked like that. This fox is one of the few things that didn't visually evolve since then

That fox is one magnificent animal. Gorgeous.
I've been told I look exaclty like the fox ever since this documentary came out😂
This is some wonderful footage of species that are rarely filmed. At 0:40 the narrator says, ".......a rodent called the Pika......." He is wrong. Pikas are not in the rodent family at all. Pikas are Lagomorphs, not rodents. I am surprised that a production of this quality would have such an obvious mistake.
@Tom Reichner, get your taxon rankings right, rodents are an order not a family, they are divided into thirty-eight extant families, twenty-one extant superfamilies, and three suborders, the suborders are Caviomorpha (Cavy-Like Rodents) with the superfamilies Ctenodacyloidea (contains 2 families: Diatomyidae (Laotian Rockrat) and Ctenodactylidae (Gundis)), Petromuroidea (contains 1 family: Petromuridae (Dassie Rat)), Phiomyoidea (contains 1 family: Thryonomyidae (Cane Rats)), Bathyergoidea (contains 1 family: Bathyergidae (Molerats)), Hystricoidea (contains 1 family: Hystricidae (Old World Porcupines)), Octodontoidea (contains 2 families: Octodontidae (Degus and South American Rockrats) and Echimyidae (Spiny Rats)), Chinchilloidea (contains 2 families: Abrocomidae (Chinchilla Rats and Viscacha Rats) and Chinchillidae (Chinchillas and Viscachas)), Erethizontoidea (contains 1 family: Erethizontidae (New World Porcupines)), Myocastoroidea (contains 3 families: Ctenomyidae (Tuco-Tucos), Capromyidae (Hutias), and Myocastoridae (Nutria, Punares, and Guiaras)), and Cavioidea (contains 4 families: Dinomyidae (Pacarana), Caviidae (Cavies), Cuniculidae (Pacas), and Dasyproctidae (Agoutis and Acouchis)), Sciuromorpha (Squirrel-Like Rodents) with the superfamilies Aplodontioidea (contains 1 family: Aplodontiidae (Mountain Beaver)), Gliroidea (contains 1 family: Gliridae (Dormice)), Anomaluroidea (contains 2 families: Zenkerellidae (Cameroon Anomalure) and Anomaluridae (Flying Anomalures)), Pedetoidea (contains 1 family: Pedetidae (Springhares)), Sciuroidea (contains 1 family: Sciuridae (Squirrels)), Castoroidea (contains 1 family: Castoridae (Beavers)), and Geomyoidea (contains 2 families: Geomyidae (Gophers) and Heteromyidae (Pocket Mice, Kangaroo Rats, and Kangaroo Mice)), and Myomorpha (Mouse-Like Rodents) with the superfamilies Platacanthomyoidea (contains 1 family: Platacanthomyidae (Lasiures)), Dipodoidea (contains 2 families: Spalacidae (Kopatels, Zokors, Bamboo Rats, and Grawes) and Dipodidae (Jerboas)), Cricetoidea (contains 4 families: Calomyscidae (Kuyruks), Cricetidae (Hamsters, Lemmings, Muskrats, and Voles), Zapodidae (Jumping Mice and Birch Mice), and Sigmodontidae (New World Mice and Rats)), and Muroidea (contains 4 families: Muridae (Old World Mice and Rats), Gerbillidae (Gerbils, Jirds, Sand Rats, Link Rat, Spiny Mice, Brush-Furred Rats, and Rudd’s Mouse), Cricetomyidae (Cricetomyids), and Nesomyidae (Malagasy Rodents)).
@@indyreno2933 Pikas are not rodents. "Family" can be used both colloquially and taxonomically. I usually use it colloquially.
@Tom Reichner, no, "family" is used only taxonomically, this is more correct, all animal families use the suffix -idae.
@@indyreno2933 I see and hear the word "family" used all the time in non-taxonomical ways. So do you. In fact, it is used far more in colloquial ways than it is in taxonomic ways. I am getting the idea that you just want to be argumentative.
@@indyreno2933 the conversation here has nothing to do with all of the creatures that are rodents. The subject being discussed is the Pika, which is not a rodent. Why you so off topic???

Thank you Lucky Charms. What other ish knowledge would you like to share with us?
Jesus Christ He just stated the fact. Why are you talking like an arrogant pos? Fuck off and read some books, dickass.
Lagomorphs which belongs to rodent family?
@@johncarlofernandez2698 Lagomorpha isn't part of Rodentia. Lagomorpha is its own order, Rodentia is another order. Together these two orders form the clade Glires. So lagomorphs and rodents are related, but as two separate branches of the same tree trunk, not as one branch growing out of another branch.

That fox looks like a walking Easter Island stone head glued onto a fox body that eats at Cracker Barrel.
What an interesting fox, I love it 😍 especially when it is part of the Vulpes genus!
@Emma Norfleet, actually, the Vulpes genus is restricted to only the red foxes, which are now three separate species, the Eurasian Red Fox (Vulpes vulpes), the American Red Fox (Vulpes fulva), and the African Red Fox (Vulpes niloticus), none of the other eleven extant fox species are closely related to red foxes at all, because of this, these eleven fox species do not belong to the Vulpes genus anymore, they are instead relocated to three separate genera, Neocyon for the Tibetan Fox (Neocyon ferrilatus), Alopex for the Corsac Fox (Alopex corsac), the Arctic Fox (Alopex lagopus), the Swift Fox (Alopex velox), and the Kit Fox (Alopex macrotis), and Fennecus for the Bengal Fox (Fennecus bengalensis), the Blanford's Fox (Fennecus cana), the Ruppell's Fox (Fennecus rueppellii), the Fennec Fox (Fennecus zerda), the Pale Fox (Fennecus pallidus), and the Cape Fox (Fennecus chama), these eleven extant fox species now classified within three separate genera of their own are more closely related to both the Bat-Eared Fox (Otocyon megalotis) and the Raccoon Dogs (genus Nyctereutes) than they are to the Red Foxes (genus Vulpes), with the foxes that are in the genus Fennecus being the closest living relatives of the both the bat-eared fox and raccoon dogs, the foxes that are in the genus Alopex being the second closest to the bat-eared fox and raccoon dogs, and the tibetan fox being the third closest, while the red foxes are the most distantly related from all the other groups.
