I just noticed your guitar is an 8 string !! What made you decide to use an 8 string acoustic ? :) Hmm really interesting ! :) i don't play acoustic because I prefer electric guitar but also have yet to find an acoustic apart from nylon string guitars that don't hurt my hands. Even when i had them setup by a luthier. I'm sure some of these ideas can be translated to electric guitar too :) .
I have always been frustrated with the overall range of guitar. I always wanted an extended range classical, but I ended up giving classical up because it was starting to get boring for me. As I began singing, I realized my voice was very deep, and overlapped with the very bottom of the 6 string too much. So I looked into 8 strings. As it turns out, people don't make these in acoustic steel string... So I contacted a luthier and we designed one. It doesn't work the same way as an 8 string classical, in that the tension is too high for the highest string to reach A, and the overall tension is huge. So, I tuned it half a step down to: Bb Eb Ab Db Gb Bb Eb F. The highest string is a whole step above the second highest string, allowing for really cool crunchy chords.
23 years playing and this is news to me! Thanks Ross I'll be playing with it this weekend :D
Amazing! Hope all is well 😁
I'm still practicing Mauro Guiliani Opus 50 #6....
