@@beatrixguitar Got the exercise book. I know I have been unwell, but I feel as if I am regressing. It’s a passing phase, as it has happened a few times over the last few years.
Your guitar, resonates like a church bell - rich, clear, and full of depth. You have and enviable crystal tone. Simple exercises, practiced slowly and with conscious repetition, are the key. Don’t rush ahead before mastering the basics. Most of us are impatient, eager to skip the hard work and build strength in the process. But shortcuts rarely yield results-unless you’re a John Williams, Julian Bream, or Segovia! For the rest of us, patience and perseverance are essential. Take your time; it will pay off with confidence and success in the long run.
This looks like the perfect exercise routine. The problem for me as a beginner is not being able to see exactly where your fingers land on the strings because of the angle used to record your clip😐
I have watched this a couple of times, and it has tips that I haven't seen elsewhere. I am going to try this with a pick as well. Please don't leave us "plectrum guys" out, lady with the carefully shaped nails! Again, thanks for the advice and best wishes for the coming year!
I started playing guitar a couple of years ago for therapy. Developed a neurological condition. I used to play concert trump so I appreciate classical music much. So, instead of being idle, I wanted something to really allow me to focus. Classical music and blues are my main focus. I play blues to enhance my dexterity and so I can eventually become moderately competent. I take baby steps but hope and enthusiasm is high.
Hello Beatrix, your exercises are GOLD for the fingers and also your videos for the eyes... and ... i love the color matching of your orange T-Shirt and the Aquarelle in the background!
Nice, i play electric and this is still helpful ofc, ended up here right after saying i need to get my ish together and improve haha i went to my youtube homepage and bam
Hello, I saw your concert et Siccas, I enjoyed your performance. 👏 I'm 35 and I play guitar since adolescence. But I play mainly rock, blues and lead stuff on electric and I have a steel string acoustic. Now I'm getting into classical guitar and I think I would need some classes, I live in south of france tought. I don't know if you have some learning program on internet I was wondering.
Hi Beatrix, Another lovely video, thank you. I love your teaching style and humour. Glad you got through your coffee/s! I'd like to contribute to your Patreon account, but even $5/month feels too much to commit, when I'm trying to support and filter so many creators and teachers, each equally valued and cherished. I love your work. Thank you.
It works on my ukulele. Also, on my 2 concert ukuleles, I loose tone if I play close to the fret. Playing near the middle between frets improves the tone.
I was looking to treat myself to a new guitar next year. The one I was thinking about was a TATYANA RYZHKOVA SPECIAL EDITION BLACK LIMBA (SPRUCE TOP). However, it seems that the luthier (Raimundo Guitars) has ceased making guitars. Or is this incorrect?
Because I am not a professional player, practicing is an escape and a joy. If I had 8 hours to practice, it would not be a problem, so all I have to do is doing it right
I totally agree, but actually even though I'd have the time to practice more exercises, I just don't want to :D I like to keep it simple and packed, this is why I think it's good to find simple, easy to memorize exercises for both hobby and professional players
I have been playing guitar for decades now and I have never done exercises. Certainly I have practiced, but always with songs. Even when I got around to learning finger picking, I got use to the patterns by practicing songs only.
I used to do this a lot a few years ago and it helps a lot. I haven’t done it for a while and it shows on the video quite well how difficult it is to be that precise 😀 I can highly recommend it!
Did you just call me a "loser"?! Edit: Actually when playing the classical I play with my fingers... and a lot of things I do on the electric or bass is played fingerstyle as well. I am just not deep into classical guitar... yet. And that's where you come in! Thank you so much for the lessons and knowledge. This will help a lot with the classical guitar side of me! Cheers!!!
Bea, I've been followin' you for quite a while now...and been thinkin'...🤔 The way you use the little guitar sketch that's your initial "b/B" as your logo; a good deal of vibrant colours constant in most of your shows; that "O Sheet"; your fashion choices and so on... My point is, all these lil subtleties do really add up to the creativity and attractive impression of your channel. 👌❤️ Now, lookin' forward to 2025 (which is already knockin'...), I'm gunnin for you to get to 200k subs before June!! 🤞💓 C'mon let's go man!! 💪🔥

Don't understand people who make teaching videos without showing for a sek the tabs it's 10 min more work for the TH-camrs and could help thousands of people especially beginners. It's frustrating a bit to look for the same or more less same exercise "with tabs". It's so nice and cool to share your wisdom but for really understanding and to repeat your exercises a beginner is never capable to repeat it. I hope u don't get me wrong it's an honor to get this information all for free but this little little thing what is missing lead to that the exercise I want to practise I can't do. In other words their are questions a simple tab would fix. Still a good video and yeah I think this are the exercise everyone should practise but the missing wrong for me I can't see what u doing ✌🏽what ever thanks for your time
Looking forward to trying this! Thank you, ma’am. Some constructive criticism: the multiple angles are fine, but you can slow down how quickly you cut between them. It’s a little jarring. It’s great that you’re trying something new!
Bea, I'd be very interested to know what your action measurements are at the top E and the bottom. I really like your videos. They are genuine, charming and disarmingly light. I'm a gloomy guitarist, your videos are the opposite to what I do. It is what it is, this is what people say these days. Enjoyed this, as I enjoy most of your videos. But still curious as to that action.
Well it is currently almost 7mm on the 6th string at 12th fret, but that’s not ideal 😅 I’ve been meaning to go and get it fixed but this holiday season is so busy 🫠
Hello ! Beatrix. Your channel seems to be so interresting and I subscribed. But I'm french and I don't understand all what you say, even though I am very attentive with my ears wide open. Would it be possible to have the translation with subtitles ?
I think about doing some exercises, but my teacher tells me that it's comepletely useless. Like why do you need that at all, if you can do this exercises on the context of any composition? If you want something to learn - take a composition, which contains that and do it like an exercise. What do you think about this statement?
Funny that your aim for left hand accuracy is putting the fingers so close to the frets they mute the sound and having a good sound is a sign of not being accurate enough. In fact what you are practicing/cementing then is playing mute notes dude to fretting way to close to the frets. Gaining the verry opposite you should stribe for. I had lessons from the verry best and no way we were alowed to mute the notes like that. At Rotterdam Conservatory (where my father was head teacher of classical guitar). We did daily exercises based on playing 3 or 4 notes like 1234 either on 1 string (plugged as wel as ligado) or devided over 4 strings (arpegio). This pattern was played in such a way all strings (both up and down) and all positions (both up and down) were covered. On top the finger combination changed every day like 1234, 4321, 1243, 4132, etc. Each possible finger combination was covered so in the end you covered each possible finger combination crossing all strings (up and down) and all positions (up and down) both plugged, or in ligado (single strings) and in arpegio grips. If I'm not mistaken pugol had something like that as well but the system used by my father and his teacher (Koos Tigges) was way way more systematic. The daily chance of combinations (each used for both pluged single string, ligado single string and cross over arpegio) did fit 4 pages so no need to memorice only change the fingerorder according to the list or your likings. Once all finger combinations are done you have systematically covered each possible finger combination in each possible string combination and position. On top classical guitarist were given etudes and well chosen pieces opposing a problem they were chalanged to solve forcing them to get better and better. I myself did study flamenco guitar at Rotterdam Conservatory and we to had to do the exercises of Koos Tigges on de day base. On top of our weekly guitar lesson we even had 1 hour a week in which we studied those exersices together under supervision of my father focusing on correct fretting and finger management or better said, arm/hand/fingermanagement. Later I came up with studies that only focused on the left hand (no plugging) and involved no fretting at all but bringing/holding the strings only halfway to the fretboard or just tipping the strings in a whole series of studies that were increasingly demanding. Some were so demanding that after 20 years of playing I sometimes wasn't even able to connect with a finger. Think on holding/balancing 4 strings halfway the fretboard (which is hard enough on itself demanding way more control than simply fretting them) and then telling 2 fingers to hold pressure and 2 others to reduce pressure a littlle bit and then go back to starting position and tell the other 2 fingers to add a little more presure. It takes a while before you can do that in 1 fluent move. You have to balance the string pressure on the smallest possible scale tell individual or groups of fingers to put in little bit more or less energy while not being influenced by the action of other fingers which demands/gains an absurt control of your nerves and pressing control. It temporary left me with a new and ultra refined nerve system enabling me to play more relaxed and controlled compared to standard practicing.

Great exercise ideas! I never thought of playing ON the fret to practice left hand finger accuracy. Thank you so much for these practice insights

I have been playing guitar for decades now and I have never done exercises. Certainly I have practiced, but always with songs. Even when I got around to learning finger picking, I got use to the patterns by practicing songs only.
But Segovia played scales, arpeggios and double-stop scales. That's probably why his result is somewhat different.

The neck width is standard for a classical guitar. Acoustic and electric guitars are somewhat narrower.
