    Congratulations on your news of the new family member. Very excited for you both! The coop looks great however, I will caution you, especially since you live out away from the city predators, can definitely get into that coop with chicken wire raccoons will just reach their little hand right through it and grab your birds and pull them through the wire and other animals can break it. I would strongly suggest you use hardware cloth, especially on the bottom 2 to 3 feet as a skirt to protect your birds. Thanks so much for sharing. I love watching your videos.❤

      Yeah someone else mentioned the chicken wire situation, I reckon I’ll just board it over I have plenty of scrap wood

      Hoping so, seems I may have to board up the bottom though folks are saying predators get through their chicken wire

    Raccoons can also master that chicken door fastener

      You need 2 fasteners not near each other ;)

      Yeah I can throw another one on the top, that one is really tight though I think it’d have a hard time

    Hi Will! Great job on the chicken coop. What kind of chickens are you getting?

      I'm not sure, I'd like to help preserve an heirloom variety. Do you have any suggestions?

      @@HoneybeeHollowGardens I do lol Blue Laced Red Wyandotte. They are just gorgeous to me.

      @@HoneybeeHollowGardens not really since I’m in Sweden and we don’t have the same varieties. I do have a swedish breed called Silverudds blå that lay green eggs which is funny to me since they’re actually called ”blue”. I’ve been more focused on getting a colorful egg basket than on certain breeds so my flock is a mix of wyandotte, silverudds blå, marans etc.

    I love the esthetics of your structures. Much prefer that look to the sleek, modern cookie-cutter commercially available. Only question I have is do you have raccoons in SC? That chicken wire would not keep them out. They can also reach their clever hands through and grab a chicken snoozing too close to the wire. We went to quarter-inch hardware cloth after a few intrusions.

    • @HoneybeeHollowGardens
      @HoneybeeHollowGardens  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Yeah we do, didn’t think they’d be able to infiltrate.. may have to board the whole thing up if we have that issue

    • @HoneybeeHollowGardens
      @HoneybeeHollowGardens  8 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I'm pretty sure they're native, but they are prolific. They are the dominant species in most forests around here. Granted we don't have much old growth left. They die out when the oaks take over
