Well, actually the original founder Johan Enschedé himself invited the family Mozart to Haarlem because he printed the very first book of sheet music, which was a book by Wolfgangs father. Subsequently Wolfgang, then 10 years old played the organ in the big Bavo church. After that this sheet music was used for the first ever watermarks on banknotes. But when we organised a festival to commemmorate the fact 250 years later, the current directors of Johan Enschedé were not interested. I mean, if ever a musician deserves his own banknote it's Mozart, now isn't it...
In honor of their tenth number 1 album, Nick & Simon released their own tenner (10 Euro). They are the first artists with their own bill after Elvis! Of course I have to respond to this. A great initiative to donate this for people with Epilepsy. Very nice video of how this was made. At the end you see a part of my Village Volendam with a view of the Port. My mom had an epilepsy seizure a month ago in the middle of the night. My dad didn't notice until she came to again and tried to get up but couldn't. She was pale and blue in her face and I am pretty sure she was close to being brain dead (only takes 7 minutes after your breath stops), because she didn't have any strength, she is unstable on her legs now and although improving her short term memory has had a heavy blow. So it's cool to see Nick and Simon doing this charity, because epilepsy is no joke.
Nick and Simon are really great musicians, nice blokes, funny, and have a few nice songs, but I couldn't listen to a whole album by them. Their lyrics are way too saccharine to me (voor de wat minder goed in Engels zijnde medelanders: dat betekent niet 'chagrijnig', maar 'zoetsappig')!
