The first Megadeth song I learned way back in '97. The key to Marty's solos is not fast fretwork but timing because of his abundant use of bends and vibratos. I still can't play it note for note but you managed to learn it in under an hour. Bravo Ola.

    • @Earth-Worm-Tim

Dude, I first got into guitar when I saw "Crossroads" when Vai played Paganini's 5th Caprice (i.e., Eugene's Bag of Tricks) and I would consider learning that my greatest accomplishment. However, I have NEVER been able to nail a Marty solo EVER. Easily top 5 guitarist to have ever walked the planet. You wanna see some crazy Marty shreddin' watch some old Cacophony videos with him and Jason Becker just KILLIN IT in Japan.

In my opinion Dave + James/Lars never would have lasted as a band. Too many chiefs, not enough indians. All 3 have massive egos and want as much control as possible, and considering their talent I don't blame them. Dave harps on getting the boot due to alcoholism, but if he didn't get the boot for that reason something else would have went wrong eventually. My guess would be creative differences and all 3 not wanting to capitulate on creative control.

Cool exercise to improve your ear: play a scale really slowly, but alternate notes between your voice and the guitar. Then switch your voice to “silent”, hearing the note in your head instead of out loud. Finally, repeat exercise, but playing random notes in the scale instead of in sequence.
Start with a pentatonic scale, final boss is the chromatic scale. Go!

Fucking stellar Ola! In less than an hour, you learned the entirety of the song including the solo - from scratch ! Sheesh, that was amazing to watch. Not the most difficult song you’ve attempted to learn. However, your attitude to learning and including us in the process of learning and then actually performing the song, is quite inspiring. Thank you for that

Grym video. Denna videoserie är guld. Denna låt är min favoritlåt av Megadeth. Minns hur jag hatade att lära mig introt back in the day. Detta och Holy wars introt. Tack Ola. Du är grym och kan bjussa på dig själv.

I remember trying to learn the opening part on bass back in 1996 or something. I was able to learn the notes by ear but it was so awkward to do that huge climb and I was always trying to see if there was a different position to play it in. Such a rad song though that really solidified my love for their music.

When i was learning this song like 20 years ago, like Ola, the hardest part for me was figuring out what was going on in the chorus. When i saw them 6 or 7 months ago, even Dave cheated during the chorus and simplified the chords..most likely because he was singing. Kiko played it like the album.
