    coming from a dude that’s been behind the plate for 14 years… these are drills, drills you do to get better and ahead of the game defensively.

      Thank you for your comment. Your comment above is why I started this channel. I finally found a fantastic catching coach, which they are very hard to find. I started filming and learning as i go with video editing. We have been doing this for awhile now and its still fun. I'm hoping to help dads/coaches and everyone out there on the web. Shawn is working his butt of and is now visiting colleges and coaches. He is a senior now and its getting crazy. He made the Big 26 for PA all state and did amazing. Check out the latest video on the channel. Sorry we haven't posted anything lately but we have been traveling to colleges and he just started back to school. I'm hoping to post another video very soon with the footage of the colleges. Thanks again and if you need anything else just hit us up on the comments.

    I got pretty good at catcher in one offseason, but I just couldn't master blocking the ball. Hated it so much. So I respect the heck out of anyone that does it.
    Catcher is a really fun position, especially if you have pickoff signs with your pitchers and infielders and if you know how to switch signs up to fool baserunners into stealing. Nothing better than that moment when you know you're getting a fastball outside but the runner who just left thinks it's going to be a curve

    I’m a young catcher (13 at the moment) and I was wondering if you have any tips on how to more accurately throw down to second. I already have a pretty good pop time (a little less then two seconds) so if you have any tips on accuracy it’d be a great help

    • @catchthisSK
      @catchthisSK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Yes, make sure your shoulders are facing your target. As you pop up stay low and and remember its not a throw its a whip. If you have any questions let us know. Check out the rest of the videos and make sure to give them a like. Again, thanks for your comment. Shawn has been busy with high school baseball. There will be more content soon. Season just ended for high school and he has a bunch of college showcases this summer so there will be much more content coming for everyone.

    Biggest thing I see with him that he should work on the most is his hip mobility and keeping his glove on the ground instead of trying to glove every ball if he can fix those two things kids gonna be an absolute stud

    Not to be argumentative or anything but as a current catcher of many years in my own opinion it would be better if he left his helmet on when doing the “Blocking and Recovery” drills. Also his chest protector, again in my own opinion, should be almost skin tight. Makes balls in the dirt more likely to land in front of you rather than bounce away. Great work by him though really.

    • @catchthisSK
      @catchthisSK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you very much for your comment. We have tighten up his chest protector and that makes a huge difference. Check out the latest videos of him at the college showcases and let us know what you think of his performance. He's working his tail off.

    Why take the helmet off the recover the ball? Would it not be faster to keep it on

    • @catchthisSK
      @catchthisSK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The best option is to pop the helmet off and be able to see all around you. If you do it properly its seconds. Hope this helps. Thanks for the comment.

    Why take time to get rid mask...ya catch all types if pitches with it on...what advantage over rides the time it takes?? IMO the only time is "high" pop ups...plays at plate is better with it on!!

    • @catchthisSK
      @catchthisSK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      True/ I guess everyone is a little different about the mask. It might be each catchers preference maybe. Thanks for the comment.

    • @bryanrmcnair01
      @bryanrmcnair01 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I used 2 piece "cap and mask" and it deff had to be pulled off eveb for plays at plate cause to much body movement would cause it to come off itself making it in ya way! Communication maybe a reason to take it off for bunt but if bunt is in the "circle" i getting it myself without worrying about taking the mask off..lol. I have missed ya vids and not sure why they not popped up for me...deff going back here soon to catch up cause i do like ya kids trainer and the drills he teaches ya son! ALSO seeing the love ya som has for behind the plate makes the vids even better! We just started around (high school for my senior catcher) but middle school still may not have team all because kids grades with the online schooling all year...my 13yearold included! They dont relize 8 of 10 that doing bad would do better if they are outdoor type and let back to doing what they love! My lil one literally been in depression without baseball or even church basketball!

      @@bryanrmcnair01 I’m so happy Shawn has been busy with the coach throughout this crap. But Shawn told me just yesterday he wants school to be back to normal. We’ve taken two trips for college showcases down in Florida a couple months back and he did great. The videos are on the channel. Shawn has been with coach Lebo going on 3 years now. He loves the coaches and of course loves the game.

    • @bryanrmcnair01
      @bryanrmcnair01 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Catch This things almost back normal...youngest is freshman and been working out Varsity since school started! The middle school coach he had past two years is now the highschool Varsity! He still behind plate but helped us runner up in state "dixie boys" lastyear on the mound! His coach was teammates with MacKenzie Gore and during Holidays we had 5th round pick for Padres in 2020 (Jagger Haynes) working out with us being his lil bro is on the team! Son even caught his bullpen the lastday before he had go back Arizona! We also have Seth Frankoff and Trey Benton both MLB that be at our indoor practice place at anytime they around home! Small town with baseball history...same place produced Otis and Donnell Nixon!

    As a catcher getting rid of the mask takes time away from me getting to the ball

    • @catchthisSK
      @catchthisSK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It should only take seconds to get the helmet off and you are able to see much better with it off than on. Of course its a catchers preference but Coach Lebo is training Shawn to pop it off and be able to see much better. Thanks for your comment and talk to you soon.

  • @user-ji9vp2qp2e

    Is it necessary to remove mask? Seems like an unneeded moved, explanation, thank you.

    • @catchthisSK
      @catchthisSK  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is good practice to get the mask off and to be able to see the ball on the ground. You always want to throw the mask off and out of the way. He is practicing good technique in removing the mask and eye contact with the ball in a game situation. Hope this helps you out. Let me know if you have any more questions. Always glad to help out.

    • @catchthisSK
      @catchthisSK  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It really is just a couple of seconds to take the mask off. You can move quicker and see around you with your mask off. Like anything else practice practice practice. After that its muscle memory and your just react. Hope this help out.

      Juat asked the same..."seeing" a bunt better yet the rest if game ya catch 90mph 2 seems and curves that move! Think with new hockey style mask it has become coaches preference! My oldest actually changed his coaches mind after being fussed at for not taking it off for a pop up...my opinion is if its high enough and have time then do so but for bunts and plays at plate then leave it on!
