  • In the last session with Cisco and Vicki, Vicki the owner does all the work herself without Jake and has a great ride on her former rearing and flipping over horse. This horse hurt her bad in the past and flipped on the previous trainer 4 times!! He gets to go home today a new horse and they will be back in the future for follow up training and lessons. What a success story!

    Fabulous transformation, but I wouldn't expect anything less with your training sequence. Way to go Team!

    That is absolutely the most "thinking" horse I've ever seen. Everything is processing internally to the nth degree. Once he gets it, he gets it - but it's always a process.

      Yeah, makes it hard to go fast but if you give him the time, he gets it.

    I learned a lot. I'm 70 yes old. Still ride and team rope. I've bought a 5yr old geld for a winter project. He real watch a. I've broke many horse's in my younger days, and done well and used the same methods you use. Still though you are real patient, and I learned and saw the resaloults you got from that. Thanks great video.

    I watched the entire Cisco series. Didn't see Cisco rear while being ridden in any of the episodes. Was curious if he reared at all while being ridden off camera, or since Vicki took him home? If so, how was that handled? Thanks!

    • @peartreeranch
      @peartreeranch  ปีที่แล้ว +9

      No rearing during this first month, which was all filmed in June. He came back for follow up work in October and no rearing till the day he was supposed to go home, he did it to Vicki. I was able to figure out what she was doing once I saw it and he stayed one more month mostly for me to help her with her riding which we practiced on a special horse of mine. I taught Cisco to be ridden with a stick to guide him so she didn’t pull on him and they are crushing it now trail riding, riding in the big arena and today she did the Patreon challenge for the month, #4. Very cool.

    I have a question, (of course I do, lol) will there ever be a time where Vicki can get on Cisco and go without the warm ups, or is this a lifelong process for him?

    • @peartreeranch
      @peartreeranch  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      These days, he’s been back for follow up last month and this month, we do a quick walk trot canter on a circle to warm up and cinch up and we ride. He’s riding for me in a little shanked bit, comfort snaffle mouth piece from myler, and we’ve been doing a lot of stick riding to teach Vicki to not need/rely on the reins.

      @@peartreeranch That's so awesome, such a great story with Cisco and Vicki. Is this training going to be able to carry over well into all his disciplines like trail riding by giving him these foundations?

    • @peartreeranch

      It should yes. We’ve been riding him out and down the driveway and he enjoys that.

    • @peartreeranch

      It’s not that he can’t it’s that you want him going with it down and relaxed. Especially because of his history of rearing.

    Jake, I've followed along with the videos you've made while rehabbing this horse. Amazing work. He's light years ahead of where he was when he came in, and all of this is great in the controlled environment of the round pen. Vicki uses him as a trail horse, though, and that's especially where he's liable to get surprised. Is there a strategy for when a deer runs across the trail or one of the other horses on the ride starts jigging or otherwise acting up? My sense is that he's a sensitive horse, easily alarmed by nature. If he were mine, I'd probably use him mainly as an arena horse. Your thoughts?

    • @peartreeranch
      @peartreeranch  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      We did two more months of training after this and we practiced riding with different horses, alone, and longs of time out and into the big arena. We also focused on stick riding to keep her from pulling on him on accident while she learned to do more pushing. There are a few shorts showing her towards the end of that extra time.

    What about riding him outside of the arena, is he going to be good?

    • @peartreeranch
      @peartreeranch  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The quick answer is, He has been yes. At first we accepted the success in just the round pen. This was filmed in June, he came back for continuing“education” October and November and that was what we worked on building to bigger spaces and harder things. We especially focused on Vicki’s skills the last month. He has been great in the big arenas and out and around the ranch too.

    It's just as much about teaching Vicki - especially how to do the leadership aspect (don't think that comes naturally to her).
    You have the proverbial patience of a saint to take the endless amounts of time to teaching novice horses and mentally novice riders to together become effective working partners.
