I guess I was born about 60 years too late to really appreciate these magnificent birds! Absolutely stunning! That's why I'm clingy to 737s and such. They'll be classics someday.
Just listen to those engines humming right along, very smooth. And yes the REAL GASOLINE is sadly gone. Those engines would have a different sound when using that fuel. I do remember and used Real Gas back then. Outstanding aircraft. Thanks for sharing a fine flying example.
That blew my mind. Thank You. I have been reading about this airplane since I was 13 years old in 1973. It is 2017 and I now have a visual interpretation of it set to music. Awesome. Thank You so much for this Delight.
A prior comment from go4ride asked about pressurization. Although I am retired EAL I don't know the circumstances about this particular a/c but I do know that many of these older a/c are operated without pressurization because of concerns the pressure differential will cause the structure to fail (explosive decompression). They just fly low, keep the outflow valves open and let the air blow thru.
Thank you so much. I n 1959 I got my first airplane ride. We left Colorado Springs on a very snowy morning on a Vickers Vicount, flew to Denver and boarded an Eastern DC-7b just lilke this one, maybe the same airplane. Flew to New York on our way to Germany. If I live to be 100 I will never forget those PRT's belching flame and being serenaded by four 3350's.
I made a special trip to Opalaka just out of curiosity and I thought my heart would stop ,when I saw this beauty. My mom (a travel agent) and I (an 8-year old kid) would fly between Chicago (now MDW) to Charlotte, with a complimentary bump to 1st Class. It was the trill of an otherwise hard childhood. Every sound, smell, feel..well you get it...was etched in my memory. I never became a pilot, but I did work for 20 years in wholesale and retail travel, and have traveled the globe. This was REAL air travel as opposed to a glorified elevator ride (still cool). Yes, every generation will have it's special moments, but I thank everyone who is working to preserve this wonderful history. EAA Member 1245333
Great video! As an ex Eastern employee, I am so proud of you guys taking care of that jewel of a plane. Quick question, I also worked for Northwest Airlines (and now for D E L T A), the passenger seats that you installed are awfully familiar, are they ex NWA seats?
don't u just love when the song starts at 8:13 and at 8:49 when the.unburnt rich fuel goes came out straight though as flames??? anyway what is the name of the song, please. What a terrific people still keeping this bird alive!
Hey Brandon, I really love all the comments. I've flow on almost every type Eastern has ever owned. "How do I begin to tell the story of how great a love can be..." I am reborn again in the beauty of this classical gems!
I understand the engines originally operated on 115/145 leaded high octane fuel...which is no longer available...so they have to also run the engines at lower power settings. That may have some effect on being able to run the turbochargers, etc.to provide pressurized air. Also, there probably isn't much reason to use pressurization since many flights are for novelty, etc. I suspect that in the case of inclement weather, this plane doesn't attempt to fly through it..but I am just speculating.
VP Racing fuels still makes this spec fuel in 55 gallon drums. It's still used at air shows and races. Would love to purchase a ride on one of these someday?
Ihave to agree although ive only made one flight on each. I lived in alaska for many years and over time i got to fly in 15 to 20 different airplanes from props to jets but the dc 7 impressed me most. It was a big powerful comfortable airplane; the cadillac of airplanes.[I flew anc to sfo in a dc7c in 1957] Another favorite was the lockheed electra, aso a powerrful solid airplane.
Do you know I was hired by Eastern Airlines in the 80's to be a flight attendant, I had sent my picture and resume, and was sent a ticket for the interview, Unfortunately, I was engaged at the time and he threw a fit thinking I would die on the flight, I still wish I would have done it, even though they are not in business anymore, Michele.
Douglas and Lockheed ruled the skies till Boeing came along with the 707. Still the DC-8 was the better of the two jets and the stretch versions forced Boeing to build the 747.
Wonderfull stuff, but must be anticlimatic to fly in an aircraft like that and have to eat cellophane wrapped food on foam plates and drink from cans...
My father was an EAA Captain from 1948-1968 and the "7" was one of the birds he piloted when I was a kid...great memories
When they took off from St. Maarten airport I LOVE the music they played. It took me right back to the late 50s to early 60s. Thank you.

Yeah, but the jets will never be able to compete with the sound of those big radials. They are truly marvels of engineering, and WAY COOL!
Just listen to those engines humming right along, very smooth. And yes the REAL GASOLINE is sadly gone. Those engines would have a different sound when using that fuel. I do remember and used Real Gas back then. Outstanding aircraft. Thanks for sharing a fine flying example.
Beautiful Machine , beautiful people . Makes me feel good ! thank you .
Miami, Eastern air lines and some great aviation in that era
beautiful plane built between 1953-1958, one of the last major piston airplanes, check out the large square passenger windows. classic!!!!!
That blew my mind. Thank You. I have been reading about this airplane since I was 13 years old in 1973. It is 2017 and I now have a visual interpretation of it set to music. Awesome. Thank You so much for this Delight.
Wow. What a beautiful bird, and what incredible volunteers to keep her flying.
beautiful plane! Nice seeing a plane like this flying, and hearing the stewardesses' stories.

I loved the Dc-7 and the Connie.

I flew the DC3 and 4, but never this one. Beautiful!
It amazes me these types of planes are still flying :) And I mean that in a good way. Flying on a vintage aircraft like this is on my bucket list.

Hey Brandon,
I really love all the comments. I've flow on almost every type Eastern has ever owned. "How do I begin to tell the story of how great a love can be..." I am reborn again in the beauty of this classical gems!
Me too !!!!
FANTASTIC
Just Awesome!!
A beautiful airplane.
Most beautiful aircraft still flying.
I love JustPlanes
What a welcome! So is this plane newly-restored and lands there the first time? Or...
i never knew such old aircraft were still used. is this some type of historic flight?

I like the joke: double their pay from 0 to double 0. :)
Imagine crossing the oceans with the DC 7. How risky was that? Riding the weather.
Did Capt. Frank Moss ever fly a PC3 Orion into hurricanes for NOAA about 15 years ago? He looks familiar.
These old DC7's are way cool, these planes actually required the pilot to fly, no computers.. Real Pilots fly DC models

like it reason excellent adventure.
What airport did you fly out of at Eight-Thirty AM? The first guy on the video said, "Good morning Udo." But where's Udo?
There appears to be just enough electronics as a backup in case its overcast and the navigator and throttle operator can not see the stars.
loved it
Very interesting
How can i get in contact whit this people are saving this airplain. i wanted to be a member of this club
Didn't know Gregg Popovich flew planes in the off season!
Lindo avião 😮
The controls were not fly by wire, that's for sure, but the controls were hydraulic that's for sure.
i wonder what the cruising alt was on that trip jw i have this aircraft on fs2004
Love it
I'd love to stand where those guys were at the beach! (only if I had travel insurance)
It would be interesting flying across the Atlantic taking roughly twice as long to get there.
this is a clear example on why eastern has "The Silver Fleet"
where did they started from?
What music is this as from 08.10?
The lady's are they in their 60s and 70s ?
I want that catering in Aerolineas Argentinas!

The 7C is so much classier.
why are they spraying it down at 3:50?
helps clean the bugs off the windshield
I flew this one on flight sim i think haha...
The sound of the engines sounds like the martin mars water bomber used to fight forest fires.
I love they "recycled" the old NWA seats
Magnifique.J'ai aimé je fais de la simulation de pilotage avions sur PC.
Merci.Amitiés.Yvon
Are they still flying this eastern dc7 with eastern I like it
Douglas and Lockheed ruled the skies till Boeing came along with the 707. Still the DC-8 was the better of the two jets and the stretch versions forced Boeing to build the 747.
No hydraulic controls! Strictly 'Armstrong'
Gee... I idunno if I like my engineer dressed like a 1950's Dennis the Menace. LoL
