Thumbs up John. And kudos for making me laugh. That doesn't just happen. Even my husband has expressed that I don't just laugh at every little thing.

I just watched your videos on building the cages with closet wire. I was having trouble figuring out what type of cage to build. Those videos fixed that problem for me. The wire on the bottom of the nesting box is a great idea. Thanks for these videos.

your ideasare great...wood holds germs no matter how you clean them and all the stuff you clean wood with is NOT good for rabbit health and extra space is good for mother bunny so there tell that to your trolls doing great thank you for sharing
    God bless

I got plenty of people that told me "you don't need 4 nesting boxes for those chickens" "you don't need a coop that big for 6 chickens, idiot" "you're stupid for putting tile in the hen house" lol. I have happy and healthy chickens....just like your awesome rabbits! Just make sure it's level and plumb, wouldn't want them New Zealanders lodging a formal complaint!

that is a great box no doubt. the only thing I do differently is I have stopped putting a wire bottom on at all. the cage floor acts as the bottom and when its time pull the box just lift and scoop the fur and straw out of the cage. the box will be still clean and ready to go.

I agree with the size of the nest box. All survived. My full grown breeders are ten pounds and my largest litter was 12. While tiny when born, they grow fast.

I use those same wire bottoms on my nest box. I have had babies get their feet stuck a couple of times, BUT it was only with one rabbit that liked to dig her nest all the way down to the wire before filling it with fur. We found we had to really overfill her nesting box so that she did not have to dig so deep to get the hole she wanted. I love having the wire bottoms for the same reasons you said, we just had to cater to the one rabbit's needs.
Also, we have shorter tops on our boxes so that our does can jump on top to get out of the reach of the babies for a while. I find they get very frustrated if they have a large liter pestering her for milk all the time.

Your intelligent response was golden. I will most certainly repeating it when my husband says that I'm giving our Cinnamon doe too much space. (Cinnamons are about the same size as New Zealands)

Some years ago I had rabbits and did the same you're doing. Hutch was in the back yard and movable as needed for fertilizer. Here's the Punch. Wives poodles were users of the back yard, baby rabbit feet would poke through the hardware cloth poodles would jump up and get a bite. I had a litter of footless babies before I knew it. Keep the dogs out of the hutch area.

+Theresa Jukiewicz I was building a new home for myself,a two story with beams spanning twenty feet to support the second floor. I consulted the most highly thought of structural engineer in the city. He told me that I needed twelve two by twelves laminated for each beam. I told him I wasn't building a bridge, he told me to get out of his office! That was forty years ago the home is still standing with four laminated 2X12s used for beams, hasn't sagged, hasn't moved.
