He still puts on accents for interviews, but it seems more random now. I've had to go back to his 2000 American Psycho interviews to hear his actual accent, cause now he just keeps changing it. Even in an interview for Exodus he decided to be cockney for no reason.
19:06 Christian sitting on the edge of his seat, smiling at Chris as he avoided the question about being on board for another film; and then calling Chris out on it shortly after was hilarious. 👌
The way he stares down Nolan as Nolan does the politican thing, dodging the question effortlessly. You can tell Bale has been subject to that kind of question dodging before lmao
Christopher nolan, you've made not only an amazing batman movie, a great blockbuster, but also a fantastic film and kicked off of the best film trilogies/ franchises of the 21st century! And thank you for saving my favorite hero!😊
The greatest part of this interview is all of us currently (17 years later as of this post) have the gift of hindsight when listening to the question about a possible sequel and realizing these two men had NO IDEA the stratosphere they would reach just 3 years later with the Dark Knight.
Its like someone here already said : Bale is like a vicious fox. And so talented. Fascinating. Love this man ! And kudos to Charlie. What a great interview !!
The comics Bale started out with might explain his voice. In those novels - especially Morrison's Arkham Asylum - Batman was especially stylized. He was drawn as a shadow or a demon, and thus, he spoke like one. Arkham Asylum even stylized the lettering in the speech bubbles to characterize everyone's voices.
I have to agree with you 100%. There will NEVER be another BATMAN other than Christian Bale to me. Also, I don't think anyone could do a Batman like Nolan either. RIP to those in Colorado. TDKR is now my all-time favorite movie.
Chris Nolan: Doesn't even speak about future projects before the current one is received. Kevin Feige: "Iron Man was decent. Roll out the release dates for the next twenty undrafted films!"
If they like the movie and if they want me back for a sequel I'm interested. I mean Hell yeah Christian. They made a sequel and they made the best one.
Charlie Rose is a G. That man has interviewed pretty much everyone in the Universe. EVERYBODY wants to be on Charlie Rose on PBS. That's a little fact that most people don't realize. He's considered by many as the perfect interviewer. He's a legend. Getting Bale to laugh in an interview, Nolan...they are so relaxed. I hope they keep PBS going. SUPPORT!
Everyone makes him out to be the biggest asshole because of that one incident on the terminator set, but christian bale really seems like such a great guy. He always looks somewhat happy to be where he is, is incredibly funny, has a good heart, and just seems really humble. And he's WELSH!!! C'mon people, you gotta love him.
Bale is Batman, the way he portrayed the charcter was perfect. He understands what kind of a man bruce and Batman should be. Who is goin to play batman next I have no clue. WB better get an unknown actor that understands this character.
I just love watching these two guys talk about film. they're the best at what they do and are two of the few people in film today who excite me with every new endeavour.
Christian ✝️ was the most memorable Batman period his sarcasm and witt as Bruce Wayne was the best take off on any multi billionaire with a heritage name in a capitalist era. What an epic performance from a dedicated actor.
This is how you make a successful comic book movie. by getting a director and star that have a true passion for the source material as bale and nolan do.
You can tell these guys are British because when Christian Bale talks about how he doesn't want to repeat the past, and is asked about why they took so long, he doesn't say anything along the lines of "Because the 90's versions sucked so bad, we wanted to forget that before we moved on."
Yes!! Completely agree with the whole interview, especially at 10:12. I have always seen Bale's Bruce Wayne/the Batman as being the definitive live-action portrayal of the character, similar to how I see Mr. Reeve's Clark Kent/Superman. I've always seen Mr. Reeve's Clark Kent/Superman, as the definitive live-action version of the character. Its great to actually hear Bale say that about Reeve's Superman.
Bale so infused this role with life that he can never top it . Of course he will explore other characters on a level that only 1 percent of actors do but there is an albatross that will follow him in whatever role he henceforth portrays because of his exquisite rendition of Wayne/Batman .
In a time of bad economy,,,bad tv,films, people, government,,it is the great movis that help us to open our minds and humour and good energy inspire many to mak a better world.
Liam Neeson was amazing in this film. I agree the Joker was great, but ppl overlook the Ra's al Ghul character. He was way more three dimensional then the Joker or Bane.
That was amazing. When he later said that he was half John Connor when that happened I totally believed it. I really believe that he was in the moment of the scene and the DP, who really should have known better than to walk into a scene while filming, was as much at fault for doing that. It is the number one rule.
Why does scarecrow only have like, three seconds of footage in the trailer?!! And i think it's cool how he's using his "bruce wayne voice" the whole interview! That takes real concentration and commitment! Amazing
I got 20 pounds of muscle of muscle in one year. I was skinny as hell, just like Bale was during/after The Machinist, though not as severe. Bale probably had loads of supplements and a proper place to work out, along with a professional trainer, so I think it's quite doable, especially for someone as dedicated as Christian!:)
I love how Christian Bale actually read the source materials to learn about Batman instead of wanting to wear the cowl to look cool...no offence to Tobey Maguire (I love him as Spider-Man) but he doesn't even like the character before playing it
No. But he maintains that he isn't very good at picking up new accents so he takes the accent he needs for his next or current role and sticks with it. The man's fucking dedicated.
The DP Shane Hurlbut, definitely did something wrong when he interrupted a rolling scene. But I thought Christian Bale was completely wrong. It shouldn’t be okay to call someone names, threaten them with violence and make them feel miserable for minutes on end for making a mistake. But at the same time, even thought Bale was in the wrong it made me respect him more. It just shows how seriously he takes his art, and I wish more people had the same amount of dedication.
Its just amazing how much Bale prepares for his Roles and I mean not just physically. Dude never had any intrest in Batman before and now he has more knowledge and a deeper understanding of the Character than some of us lol
Well actually, if you watched the interview, Bale said he became genuinely interested with Batman when he was lent Arkham Asylum in the early 2000s. That was before Batman Begins. He still obviously did a lot of prep and whatnot when actually joining the film, but it’s true that he had an interest even before it.
il be honest i never liked what the old movies did to batman.. the serious, dark, imposing batman is deffinantly how it should have stayed and the recent trilogy is going down as some of my favourite films of all time. kudos bale and nolan and r.i.p heath you've managed to revitalize batman and make him my personal favourite super hero
In terms of the box office numbers, Bale's Batman did top Reeve's Superman. But in terms of acting portrayals for each character, I would say that Bale and Reeve are equal in my honest opinion. Bale brought to the character of Bruce Wayne/the Batman, exactly the same thing that Reeve brought to the character of Clark Kent/Superman. Bale is a great stage actor that understands the characters that he's portraying, just as Reeve did in the acting profession.
you know I feel Michael Cain's Alfred is the best Alfred ever since he doesn't go and follow Batman to a teeth with no personal input, he always on Bruce's case about him being Batman
Christian Bale isn't like normal, egotistical actors who do it for money, have no talent and think they're god's gift. He's an actual practitioner of his craft, and it's nice to see.
Christian Bale nailed the character of Batman. His portrayal I felt was the closest to Kevin Conroy's Batman, but in a more realistic and grounded way. Which I thought was brilliant. I know the Batman character and Nolan got the character right with his own vision.
when they speak at the end of the interview as to whether or not they'll make more Batman movies, I get the same feeling as I do before characters find out Bruce Wayne is Batman. . . like i'm in on something with them and I'm giddy with the knowledge of what's to come.
he mainly talks about the high value of using the balance between humorous and seriousness in literature .. I guess he said " lightness and a lighting tragedy"
It's interesting how Christian Bale used to do interviews in his character's accent.
He still puts on accents for interviews, but it seems more random now. I've had to go back to his 2000 American Psycho interviews to hear his actual accent, cause now he just keeps changing it. Even in an interview for Exodus he decided to be cockney for no reason.
Actium Films I heard he did it to avoid confusion.
Nah.
Michael ...”nah,” what?
It’s not interesting, it’s super weird, annoying and fucking crazy
It's such a remarkable thing to know that Bale had this much of understanding of Batman.
The amount of work Bale put in his work shows how efficient he is as an actor.
He definitely throws himself into research of the character.
Christian is so enthusiastic about the part, it's fantastic :D
Yes!!
Nolan is a genius
Yup.
this interview alone convinces me that bale is a better batman than affleck
He always was
19:06 Christian sitting on the edge of his seat, smiling at Chris as he avoided the question about being on board for another film; and then calling Chris out on it shortly after was hilarious. 👌
Loved that part
The way he stares down Nolan as Nolan does the politican thing, dodging the question effortlessly. You can tell Bale has been subject to that kind of question dodging before lmao
Batman Begins is one EPIC movie. Christopher Nolan did something I can't imagine any other director having the vision and talent to manifest.
Christopher nolan, you've made not only an amazing batman movie, a great blockbuster, but also a fantastic film and kicked off of the best film trilogies/ franchises of the 21st century! And thank you for saving my favorite hero!😊
why do this interview looks like it was from early 90's
That's part of the charm
This video was recorded with a potato camera
It's PBS. Charlie Rose is known as the interviewer everyone wants to see. They leave the set plain and black because it relaxes guests.
@@lairdriver that's great
They talk so professionally. Most actors lack that professionalism
Its Nolan´s gritty and realistic version of Batman , which took the iconic hero to new heights
And Bale´s performance was just brilliant
Almost every line in Batman Begins is practically the weight of a one-liner. It's imo still one of the best scripts ever written.
They were so unsure if it would be successful, Both Nolan and Bale. And in retrospect, best Batman movies ever in my humble opinion
Wow Christian Bale really understands his character.
Bale read Long Halloween before even auditioning? Damn I have even more respect for him
Christian Bale is the best Batman EVER!
Yes
agreed, and he will always remain the best.
@@buntyskb so true
A lot of people don't get Batman and think that anything related to comic books should be fun. Bale gets Batman: it should be dark.
Bale loved playing Batman! He’s my favourite live action version.
The 80's. The good ol' days.
The 80s? 😃
He's a very intense method actor, so he still had the accent from shooting. he gets really involved in the characters he plays
I love these two guys so much, beacons of artistic integrity (the REAL kind, not the excuse) in the film industry.
Bale even quoted the long Halloween
Did they do this interview in 1981?
+Black Bear Lol
More like 1974 😂🤣😂🤣
thank good bale was choosen to play batman!
I love that smile on Bale's face, don't really see him smile in other DK interviews
That shows how much he genuinely enjoyed in making these amazing movies
And that's why I love him! He's such a great actor, and passionate about it too!
Roll out the release dates for the next twenty undrafted films!"
bluetin3 Dark Knight trilogy>any Marvel made Marvel movie.
Lmao 😂😂 so true
holy sheet i thought this interview was from 1970
If they like the movie and if they want me back for a sequel I'm interested. I mean Hell yeah Christian. They made a sequel and they made the best one.
"The previous version of this franchise had gonna extremely stylized." Best and biggest euphemism I've probably ever heard.
that’s wild he still put on the accent during this interview
graphic novels are dark gritty and grounded and this is the best way to potray batman stories. hail Christian bale
Brilliant !! I love question and answers 13:07 - 16:15 ahahaha and mentions of American Psycho, spot on !!
Charlie Rose is a G. That man has interviewed pretty much everyone in the Universe. EVERYBODY wants to be on Charlie Rose on PBS. That's a little fact that most people don't realize. He's considered by many as the perfect interviewer. He's a legend.

It's so cool how he does interviews in an American accent.
yeah.....but i want to know why. is he preparing for another role so he stays in character (in terms of accent)?
afy300 I think I read that the producers asked him to do this so that American fans wouldn't get confused.
Josh Lavian lol.....seriously?....omg
It's method acting
+Aryan Bagha you come from screen rant?
bale's accent is very American here.
shredding the character away takes time I suppose.
Excellent, interesting interview. I haven't seen them do an interview together before... and that cut to Christian at 19:06 always cracks me up!
And they went on to make an awesome trilogy!
That's right. The best Batman movies were made by Brits.
Suck eanna
ARCHANGEL You want a cookie?
Both Nolan and Bale are half American.
@@PACNYY *biscuit
@@shamusobi2748 Bale isn't American except living there for a long time.
Kind of comical, they were going to stop the Batman movies here. Then, Nolan was invited to do the Dark Knight and it went on from there.
Thank god , that was the BEST MOVI EVAR
Everyone makes him out to be the biggest asshole because of that one incident on the terminator set, but christian bale really seems like such a great guy. ...and they DID go on to do another film and created arguably the best superhero film ever made.
2:43 The nicest thing anybody said about Batman And Robin.

i love him as batman and i love all of the batman movies
In 2005 Christian Bale movie called Batman Begins directed by Christopher Nolan interview of host Charlie Rose
yeah one of the final scens in Rising with Alfred just made me want to cry because of how well it was done in conveying the emotions
Charlie Rose is a great interviewer.
Great interview! I love how secretive Chris Nolan is.
one of the greatest trilogy started with the begins

Bale actually used the American accent for the interview?! wtf XD
I read an interview with Christian where he said he likes to stay in character by continuing the accent whether performing or not.
Christian Bale's geek smile on 2:28 is hilarious XD
To the angry Burton fans, relax, guys. When Bale talks about previous Batmen that were spoofs, he talks about the Schumacher era.

Underrated comment
love to see a film with christian bale and Edward Norton

He stays in character for anything press-related as a means of promoting the film rather than the fact of where he's from
1. Batman Begins- Origan Story
2. The Dark Knight- Anarchy
3. The Dark Knight Rises- No Man's Land
Best Batman movies in live action thus far
The G.O.A.T. Batman 🦇
