    You may be interested in the book. Authentic Victorian dressmaking techniques by kristna Harris . It has all sorts of interesting information on all garment construction. I just love how the hems were done, don't know why. I have yet to get my fabric out of the stash and set to and make it! You did a great job, well done

      I feel like that's one of the titles on my rapidly growing 'books to buy' list for sewing! :D So far I've been doing a lot of learning online, but it really is great to have it in print as well - I find I learn better that way too. Thanks!

      @@HalflingSeamstress another one worth looking at is The Victorian Dressmaker, The Victorian Dressmaker vol 2, The Victorian Dressmaker Companion all found on the Prior Attire website. The author makes victorian and other historical era clothing and genuinely knows her stuff, everything she writes about is how they were made authentically.

    You are the first person I've seen to pin, tack then sew. Mum was taught at school (1950s) to ALWAYS pin, then tack, and finally to sew and she passed it on to me. Takes slightly longer but you can try the garment on after you've tacked it together to check the fit, not something you can do with pinning alone, so in the long run it saves time.

    Thank you so much for the video! I'm 5 foot and have hesitated to make myself a walking skirt not thinking i could pull it off, but you have absolutely inspired me. Plus i loved the music and commentary. Chef kiss!

    Okay, lovely wood and glass cupboard behind you. Very similar to one my Grandmother had in her little dining room. It had a tiny key with a tassel and her Sunday china, lady head vases and ruby glass lived in there. Oh, and nice sewing video also. Cheers.

      Thank you! It was actually my grandmothers' dining room set, and several of the knickknacks and teacups in it came from her. The cabinet doesn't have a key, but the buffet does, and it's such a fun delight to open up.

    People who have a love of rocks, i.e. pet rocks, have automatic pattern weights. Those of us who do not, watch you tube videos and realize that we can hand make our own beanbag type weights.
    Nice job for your skirt. Your dream is amazing.
    Where is your location? That scenery is beautiful. Love that bridge.

      Ooh I've always liked the look of beanbag weights, but I always end up grabbing whatever small things are handy instead lol
      Without giving away too much of my location, I live near a historic part of southern Ontario, which does give some awesome inspiration for projects :)

    Beautiful. I'm 4' 11", so I am curious as to how much yardage did each layer take? As you stated, there was a lot of wool left at the end. Thanks for sharing your process.

    • @HalflingSeamstress
      @HalflingSeamstress  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually dug out my remnant to figure it out lol! It looks like I used about 3.5 yards of wool total, and I'm just barely 5 foot. There ended up being a little less than what I showed in the video, because I hadn't originally planned to stiffen the bottom.
