  • HAM RADIO: Wire Wound Spiral Loop - Magnetic Loop, Small Gardens,
    Small Garden Antenna fo 80 metres
    Hi, So this time around I am going to build a antenna for the 80 metre band that will fit in a small garden, back yard or on a balcony. this antenna design is based on the spiral loop originally designed by Harry Lythall (SM0VPO) and later developed by Frank Dörenberg.
    www.nonstopsystems.com/radio/...
    All instructions for building this antenna can be found on Franks website.
    Thanks for watching my take on this build.
    Please subscribe and like.
    Cheers
    Mike - M0MSN
    P.S. do not take my word for it, give it a go for yourself.

    Little trick to help thread wire through the holes - use toothpick or wife’s knitting cable needle and heat shrink it to the wire. It makes a handy needle.

      I really need a diagram, including the feed loop and capacitor, not so much the mechanics with PVC. Could you add it?

  • @ynot6473
    @ynot6473 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    to aid threading the wire, drill the holes big enough to take a drinking straw. the wire has no option than to follow the straw, so push the wire through then pull the straw out.

    My EFHW is too short for 80m. Even if I could use it as a 1/4 wave for 80m, I will try this spiral loop.
    I like so much the old tube radio antenna it looks like 😁
    Waiting for the practical result... Expecting to get away from EM perturbations thanks to its directivity.

    I have a pile of 1m conduit lengths in the corner, and I have a bunch of wire left from undone and changed mind projects......I see a loop in my future....all I have to do first is paint the conduit bright pink, so it's not too obvious when in the air....I think two of these, a 160m aluminium 6 element flattop and maybe a 10 foot parabolic in the garden..seems a good idea to me....who needs to see the sky, it's always full of rain anyway.
    Look Honey, another antenna appeared overnight, but, I have NO IDEA where they keep coming from....

    • @Steve-GM0HUU
      @Steve-GM0HUU 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      😆 I have also encountered this strange phenomenon at my QTH. Random antenna materialisation. Like molehills but in the sky. After some careful observation, these unexplained appearances do seem correspond with days when XYL is away from home. 🤔 Most strange - I shall keep investigating.

    • @bitemykrank1970
      @bitemykrank1970 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Steve-GM0HUU Please do keep us informed of your progress in uncovering the culprit or culprits behind this phenomenon, which now seems to be a case of global skullduggery......I have come to a small hurdle with my efforts, it seems a field of T2LT's has sprung up on my back lawn, strange too, as they all seem to be different lenghts, seemingly 1/2-5/8th wavelengths on various HF frequencies, it's ALMOST like they were an intentional thing....most peculiar. I have asked my dogs, but both are tight lipped and have asked to see counsel.......I fear they know something, but are unwilling to grass.... the damn cat keeps looking at me in an odd fashion aswell....not surprised on that front though, he belongs to the missus, I think he's a spy.....

      Duck duck go _66 Pacific magnetic loop_
      There is a magnetic loop calculator for both Tx and RX
      An 11m loop only needs to be around 2.5m in circumference. Using some RG6, which you can often obtain for almost nothing, you’ll be able too make a reasonably efficient single turn antenna that’s good for around 80-100KHz without retuning

    • @jgstevens5169
      @jgstevens5169 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@jgstevens5169 I was using 8m of aluminium strap, and a home made motorised piston capacitor last night I mounted it on a 3.5m high push up lighting stand
      The noise on 40m was S3 vs my 12m trap vertical end fed half wave for 20/40m where the noise was S7
      Almost no difference on TX, but so much easier to hear the stations
