    I built a full wave loop like this for 27 MHz and fed it from the bottom with vertical polarization using copper and silver solder. No capacitor was needed. I put it on top of the tower and it was the best omni antenna I ever used.

    It's a known fact for us Amateur Radio Operators that the use of zip ties on any antenna projects gives us at least 3dB in extra gain. I enjoyed that one! :-)

    I built a huge six-foot diameter Magloop and spent months designing and building the six-tube trombone capacitor! I used a hydraulic cylinder made from two pool squirters to tune the cap and remotely controlled it with a peristaltic pump. It looks very much like yours. I used a 1/5th ratio diameter piece of extension cord for the radiating loop and fed it directly with RG-213 coax. If all the math is right, it should tune from 80-10 meters!

    Sorry, I helped "Uncle Reggie" build one of these
    but he soldered the center of the coax from the transmitter
    to the *_center conductor_* of the Faraday loop
    and had excellent performance.
    - I was surprised when I saw you solder *_BOTH_* the center conductor and shield to each end of the *_shield_* of the Faraday loop.

    That will have a nice high Q factor on the lower bands and have a relatively good efficiency that size but not so on 10m like a true mag loop. High Q loop for 10m with 22mm pipe will be about 60cm diameter.

    Nice build Mick . Could this be built circular ? If you had the way of rolling the copper tube ? It would save all that soldering !! .
    If so , what would be the optimum diameter for 27.555 MHz ? Is 22mm dim copper Ok ? Or would it be better to use a larger diameter tube ?
    Hope you have a merry Christmas

    I've not really looked into a DIY mag loop. If you wanted to keep the kit more portable can you leave the joints un-soldered so you can break it down or would that negatively impact the performance? Thanks for the build! LCARA Ham Radio

    • @mike-M0MSN
      @mike-M0MSN  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Well the Mag loop works on skin effect so the joints need to be soldered so it appears to the RF as one piece, for portable use I would go for a Coax Loop, as this can be wrapped.. :)

    Dang, who has a radio that can tx on cb and ham to even needs a beast like that, when cb is scrap, separated, phone line or ethernet wire dipole length friendly? I really wish the FCC would open up the power and freq spread of cb, so it is not a threat to a hypothetical over power, out of band shack. That is also why people buy a cb, hear nothing, not even truckers, and show back up with a reciept, and swap it for gas.

  • @pulponair
    @pulponair 4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    Hey, i don't think that is a magnetic loop. You got way above a quarter wave sizewise and so made it cross the selfresonant point and so got rid of the advantages of the "magnetic" part. I am not super sure, nor do i want offend, but what you build here is not a Mag Loop for 11m band. It's more a quarter to a halve wave antenna. What you basically did is get the Z way lower than Xc , that is not how magnetic loops work. Maybe i am wrong. Enlight me please :)
